Title: Starry Starry Night

I

The Doctor sits by himself, looking out at the galaxies below.

The Time war has ended, and isn't sure that he can ever forgive himself. He is dangerous, and he is only going on, because he needs this universe to remember the Timelords; who gave their lives to save these insignificant beings.

After an hour, he closes the door, and he sets a destination. When he was a child, and he looked into the Untempered Schism, he ran. And now he knows that he's never going to stop.

"You allright Doctor?" asks Rose behind him.

The Doctor turns around, and looks at her, a human, all pink and white.

"'Course I am."

And he turns and closes the door.

The Doctor sits by himself, looking at the galaxies below.

New face, new teeth, new body. Forget that, he's just had Christmas dinner with Jackie Tyler! And he didn't get slapped! And his Rose… she isn't leaving him, and they will get used to his new body together.

Life is looking good.

"Come on Doctor!"

The Doctor takes one last around, and then shuts the door and bounds to the controls.

IV

The Doctor sits by himself, looking at the galaxies below.

He has lost his Rose, and he couldn't save her. She's stuck in a parallel universe, and although he burnt up the power of a sun for her, he was a coward, and he didn't say those three important words when he had the chance. He is alone.

The Doctor closes the door, and a part of him dies.

It's funny, how he is always here, looking out at the galaxies while others die. Martha, his poor Martha, desperate for something that he couldn't give her. Not now. And Jack, far from being the conman that he had first met, was somehow broken and wrong, and he couldn't help him, he could only hurt him, damage him even more.

Finally Astrid, so brave and yearning to experience the world. She died, and like his Rose, he couldn't save her.

Does he destroy everything he touches?

He gets up, and closes the door.

Once again he is here, and this time he is sure that something inside of him is broken. For one glittering moment, he wasn't alone, and he had his Rose back, and all of his companions had united to save the planet.

But, then he committed genocide, and he left a whole race burning, like he did before. So he had to leave his precious Rose with his other self, because he couldn't bear having to lose her again when she died.

And Donna, the sister that he never had, and isn't entirely sure that he wanted, who can never know of him again, or face death. He lost her as well.

Deep inside his hearts, something changes and hardens, and he closes the door.

VII

The next year, the door is open, but that is to let the smoke out, and he does look at the stars, but only because the TARDIS is upside down, and he is practically flying out headfirst.

VIII

The Doctor sits by himself, looking at the galaxies below.

Well, not really by himself.

"Move over Doctor, "Amy commands, squeezing in besides him.

"Oi! Are you trying to hit on my wife again?" Rory asks, as he found the last place besides him, squashing him.

And all three of them stared at the stars for hours.
