He looked at her, trying to hide how much he wanted to go with them, go with her, how much he hated the idea of dying alone, without her, just as much as he hated the idea of leaving his ship, maybe even more, but he had a duty, and he couldn't go with her, no matter how much he wanted to.

And he could have told her that, but instead he left it unsaid.

"Everybody dies alone."
