Usually, Yamamoto loved being the guardian of the rain.

It was because of this flame that he had gained a most valuable friend and sparring partner in Squalo, with whom the existence of the teal ring on his finger was responsible. He couldn't imagine a world without Squalo coming to the Vongola mansion firstly to say hello to Tsuna and make sure that her guardians aren't causing the lovely boss too much stress, but then Yamamoto's door would get knocked down and he'd be dragged off for another spar with the screaming man.

It was with this flame that he was able to protect his friends. This flame was perfectly suited to his weapon of choice. It slowed down his opponents, making them sluggish, making it all the easier for him to fight against them. He remembered all the time that he had used the ability to slow their enemy down just enough that he would be able to intercept them. That he used this ability to protect Tsuna,

It was with the calming effect that he was able to soothe his friend's hearts. Like late at night when Tsuna would show up at his door, her eyes wet with unshed tears her eyes red as she tried to contain sobs. She'd be in his arms pleading to sleep in his bed that night, to take comfort in him and his flames for the night. He was always happy to comply and wash away the too violent and too real dreams of his beloved boss with his flames. Happy to whisper words of comfort promising that he would never leave her. Happy to have any excuse to hold her close and to make her feel safe and loved.

But today he would give anything for a Sun flame.

Today Squalo wasn't here to yell at him and scream about what he was doing wrong, he wasn't there to fix any of Yamamoto's rare screw ups.

Today he hadn't managed to slow the attack down quick enough or maybe he hadn't moved quick enough to stop the damage that was to be done.

Today he was the one who couldn't stop crying.

Today he wasn't whispering promises of eternity, he was demanding them.

Today Tsuna didn't need his Rain flames she needed Sun flames to heal the injuries that left her bleeding on the ground.

Today Yamamoto hated being the guardian of the rain.
