Author's Notes: Written for the sanctuary_kink prompt: "Henry/Kate (friendship) Don't you wish that we could forget that kiss, nd see this for what it is. That we're not in love."
"Hey Catwoman."
He saw the moment she stiffened, her footsteps faltering as she walked down the hall. Henry had been looking for her for a while now, but Kate was very good at hiding when she wanted to.
"You're avoiding me." It wasn't a question, it was a statement. She slowly turned around to face him.
"Not intentionally." His raised eyebrow showed Henry didn't really believe her. "I mean, not really intentionally, I…"
"This is about the kiss."
It had been a couple of days after the infamous catsuit incident, but they still hadn't talked about it. He knew he had hit his target when Kate's face turned red and she averted her eyes.
She didn't know what to do, crossing her arms around herself as she let him approach her. Henry's hand went to her shoulder, making her face him as he tried to catch her eyes.
"What's on your mind Freelander?"
Kate bit her lip, but met his stare. "I'm sorry."
"Don't be."
"But I ruined us Hank."
He frowned. "How did you ruin us?"
"You don't kiss your best friend. That's a line you don't cross and I crossed it and now things are awkward and you hate me." She wasn't expecting him to laugh.
"I don't hate you Kate, why would I hate you? Especially over something like a kiss, which hey, totally no complaints there." It was her turn to frown. "Why did you think that?"
"I dunno, that's just what it seemed like. I didn't even ask, my filters were off-"
"You have filters?" This earned him a slap to shoulder. Henry laughed again and was pleased to see that his joke had at least made her smile a bit.
"Just. Look, I'm sorry. I didn't want things to be awkward between us. And I didn't want you mad at me."
"Not mad." Henry grinned, squeezing her shoulder softly. "And not awkward either. We're okay Freelander."
Kate grinned back, nodding. "Wanna game a bit? I haven't kicked your ass at Mario Party 5 yet."
"And you're not going to." Henry laughed as they resumed their walk down the hall.
"Pff, in your dreams Foss." She shoved him sideways, smiling. "I'm sorry for avoiding you."
"No sweat. I just figured you couldn't resist my charming personality and dashing good looks enough to keep your hands off of me"
The punch to his shoulder was totally worth it.
