...Or Maybe Not

'Wah-oof!'

Zack jumped as something crashed onto the floor behind him. He turned around on the cafeteria bench he was currently occupying with Angeal, abandoning his tray with non-too appetizing muck to watch something far more interesting.

Mainly a small, blonde recruit laying stretched out on the cafeteria floor, a tray with the same goo around it as was on Zack's a few feet away from the recruit's hands.

Zack did a double take as the recruit worked… herself up on her elbows. His mouth fell open.

There were girls allowed in SOLDIER? For real!

Zack started to grin and quickly stepped over the bench, swooping down and taking a hold the petite blonde's arm and helping her up, practically lifting her off her feet. The recruit made a surprised noise, turning her head to look at Zack.

Zack gaped at her, his eyes taking on a dreamy quality as he took in the beautiful, beautiful sight before him.

Eyes as blue as the natural sky on a clear summer day, framed by long, blond lashes. Her face was beautiful, no other word for it, smooth, pale skin stretching over high cheek bones. Her long blond spikes stood out in almost every direction, two of them framing her face, the wild haircut giving her an interesting, unique look. Soft-looking pink lips were calling for Zack's attention like his bed did after a long training session.

'U-Uhm, thank you, sir.'

Zack's jaw dropped, his eyes widening to the size of saucers. There, from those beautiful pink lips, came a soft, timid voice reminding him of a cool breeze, with a pitch Zack knew was utterly, and inescapably, male.

The recruit looked at Zack uncertainly, trying to read his flabbergasted expression. 'Uhm, sir?' He asked politely.

'Zack, let the boy go. I'm sure he would like to finish his lunch.' Angeal shook Zack from his shock, his lips twitching slightly. Zack jerked. 'Eh? What?'

'Let him go.' Angeal repeated patiently, nodding at Zack's arm that was still holding the blond recruit's elbow.

Zack slowly uncurled his fingers, gazing at the petite boy in wonder. At Zack's continuous stunned silence, Angeal gently dismissed him and the young recruit hurried off, blatant relieve radiating from his entire being.

'It's a boy?' Zack asked, his voice a hushed whisper. Angeal decided to respond to that, knowing he would be nagged about it relentlessly if he didn't.

'Yes, that would be Cloud Strife, one of the new recruits. From Nibelheim, I believe.' He said, turning back to his own pile of mashed… something.

Zack stared after the tiny blonde's retreating back. "It's a boy.' He sank back onto the bench, staring at his tray blindly. His voice was incredulous as he spoke, accompanied by bits and pieces of mashed … spat over the table as Angeal choked on his student's words.

'I think I just turned gay.'
