Kotone stood in the basement of the famed Burned Tower, just near the ladder that led to the floor above. It was almost too dark too see, despite the evening light that filtered through the hole in the ceiling. Pichuu, who was huddled close to her neck while perched on her shoulder, let out a small whimper. Kotone reached up and scratched her small companion's head, just behind the ear. The small electric Pokemon calmed slightly, and Kotone took a step forward. She took two more steps until she was at the top of the small set of stone stairs that led down. She was about to step onto the stairs when something gleamed.
Suddenly the shapes in the centre of the basement were moving, and one by one they took off with howls. A spark of yellow light accompanied the first's departure, while the small red ember of a fire followed the second howl. When the third shape stood and howled however, Kotone felt it. It resonated deep in her heart, chilling her very blood. The lithe shape bounded out of the depression in the ground. It ran around in a great circle, running directly in front of Kotone. She swore it slowed just as it passed her, just for an instant. She marvelled at the billowing lavender mane, the great blue crest, and the two whip-like flowing tails. The shining fur, the rippling muscles, the gleam in the ruby red eyes; every inch of the Pokémon bespoke of power. That gleam in the eyes, it had intrigued Kotone. She could have sworn the Pokemon was almost taunting her; challenging her to come after it.
Kotone let out a breath she hadn't known she was holding. Pichuu too seemed to visibly deflate, as if the encounter with the three legendaries had physically worn her out. Kotone sighed and looked up to the hole in the ceiling, up to the now starry night sky. Then she clenched her fist.
"We're going to take that challenge." She told her partner, determination defining every word she spoke. "If Suicune wants to challenge us, we'll give him a challenge, ne?" The tiny electric Pokemon looked at her, and then chirruped a response, the gleam in her eye matching that of her Trainer. With that Kotone bolted up the ladder, startling the man who had introduced himself as a Suicune hunter not an hour before, and taking off into the night, the challenging red eyes now etched into her mind's eye.
A/N – Hi. Don't mind me- I just discovered that if I don't try to make something so that it requires more story behind it- it's easier to finish. I may come out with more little short stories like this, or I may not. I'll be more motivated to though if people review and tell me what they think! *gives puppy-eyes* Thank you!
