She was precious, like a flower:
Yeah, she grew wild; wild but innocent.
Perfect prayer in a desperate hour:
She was everything beautiful an' different.
Stupid boy: you can't fence that in.
Stupid boy: it's like holding back the wind.
From the day she was born Rachel was different, special. She had sparkling brown eyes, shiny hair, and a bouncy step. She sang and danced without abandon, in the grocery store, in her bedroom, in restaurants. She skipped everywhere she went. Rachel loved school, her daddies, and every animal she came in contact with. She forgave, she loved.
She laid her heart an' soul right in your hands,
An' you stole her every dream an' crushed her plans.
She never even knew she had a choice.
That's what happens when the only voice,
She hears is tellin her she can't:
Stupid boy: you stupid boy.
Rachel loved you. From the day she first saw you, third period, seventh grade, she loved you. You charmed her. Each skip, dance, and song became for you. When she walked down the hallways she would look at you. You with Quinn.
So what made you think you could take her life,
An' just push it, push it around?
I guess you built yourself up so high,
You had to take her an' break her down.
You had a way of breaking her heart. You laughed at the slushies; you ignored her tears. Occasionally you would catch her eye in Spanish class. Her gaze was flat. She eventually learned to avoid you.
She laid her heart an' soul right in your hands,
An' you stole her every dream an' crushed her plans.
She never even knew she had a choice.
That's what happens when the only voice,
She hears is tellin her she can't:
Stupid boy.
When you joined the Glee club, you noticed that her gaze became a little less flat. She smiled again. She was singing to you and you were listening. She danced with you and stormed out when you couldn't get it right. She was herself again. You kissed her, then went back to Quinn.
Ah, you always had to be right,
An' now you lost the only thing,
That ever made you feel alive.
You became a father, then lost your child, your girlfriend, and your best friend in about twenty seconds. All you wanted was Rachel again, someone to make you feel whole.
She laid her heart an' soul right in your hands,
An' you stole her every dream an' you crushed her plans.
She never even knew that she had a choice.
That's what happens when the only voice,
She hears is tellin her she can't:
Stupid boy.
"I love you," you told her. You kissed her. You sucked the Rachel out of her and made her yours only. She used to dream of Broadway. You made her dream of you. Then you broke her, left her, and yelled at her for coping.
Ah, it's the same old, same old stupid boy.
Mmm hmm.
It took her a while to work it out she could run,
But once she did, she was long gone, long gone.
Yeah.
She sits now with hair back in curls again. You had told her that you liked it straight. You're not sure if it's personal or not. She doesn't look at you. She doesn't look at anyone. She sings out of habit. She dances out of habit. She doesn't skip anymore. She sits, she stares.
Stupid boy, yeah.
You're just a stupid boy.
You never get it right, do you?
