"Do it again," commanded his father harshly.

The small boy attempted the forms again, but nothing happened. Little seven year old Zuko had been drilling firebending forms for over an hour now. Still, he could not produce sparks. The closest he had gotten was a puff of smoke. This would not satisfy his father though. "Prince Zuko, it is not that hard. By the time I was your age, I was already onto the eighth set. Just breath and strike," Ozai said, igniting a flame so large Zuko jumped back.

The young prince tried to copy his father, but only the hiss of a dying flame was the result. "That was pathetic," his father critized. "You're seven years old and have not formed your first sparks. You are a disgrace and we will keep drilling all night if you don't get this."

Zuko nodded in understanding. Even though his father was increasingly angry with him, he couldn't fuel his frustration into fire. Zuko kept trying to do the moves, but he also noticed his sister and her two friends, Ty Lee and Mai, walking by. Mai gave a rare smile in his direction. He had only met her a few months ago, but he was the first person he felt comfortable around that was his age. His father must have noticed this because he snapped, "Prince Zuko. Focus!"

The words tore Zuko out of his gaze and he automatically tried the forms. But, this time they. He had produced his first sparks. They were more than sparks though, it was a full on flame. He couldn't believe it; he had finally gotten it right. His father's cold clapping broke him out of his private celebration. "Congratulations, you finally did something your sister could do when she was three."

"Now, after spending too much time on that, we are going to start the next set." Ozai continued on explaining the next firebending forms. But, all Zuko thought was, "I made them because of her. My first sparks were when I was thinking about her."
