Chronicle

The world thrived on knowledge. Libraries and book shops and scribes sat on nearly every street; even the residential areas had them! And as soon as the travelers learned this, Fai laughed. And laughed.

Because if he didn't, he might have cried at the thought that Syaoran just might die. For the wonder on the boy's face, he might have ascended to heaven.

It was Sakura's squeaked-out request that they stay a little in this world - "Because we could all use a break and Moko-chan do you sense a feather and Syaoran-kun looks so excited!" - and the request was granted purely because saying no would have made anyone feel like a dick (even though Mokona couldn't sense anything magical for miles and miles around).

Thus, the group naturally indulged Syaoran's eagerly silent plea to visit a library. The walls were lined with shelves upon shelves upon shelves of thick-spined, gold-paged books. Syaoran assaulted them with avid attention, mumbling the titles he could read to himself and tracing with his eyes the characters he couldn't. Sakura trailed after him gleefully, smiling at Syaoran's childlike excitement. Even Fai and Kurogane took a look around the building, the tall men feeling dwarfed by the monstrous stacks of novels.

"Hey, Syaoran-kun," Fai called (quietly, as the rules of libraries are the same in every world). The boy looked up like a dog to a whistle. "Can you read this one? It looks like a book I read in Celes, but I can't tell."

Syaoran took the book and examined it. "Yes, I think I know this language. It's called Wings Lake Chronicles."

"Hm, I guess it's not what I thought it-"

"WRONG!"

Syaoran suddenly found himself with a face full of angry white fluff as Mokona torpedoed into it. Fai slipped the book from Syaoran's suddenly slack fingers before he dropped it.

"Moko-chan?" Sakura asked.

"Syaoran can't read at all!" Mokona exclaimed. It detached from Syaoran's face to hop agitatedly on his head, tiny paw pointing at the book in question. Syaoran gaped.

"So you can read it?" Kurogane grunted. "Tch. I don't believe it."

"Mokona can read just fine! That says Wings Lake Chronicle!"

"...And what's the difference, bun?"

Sakura made a noise of astonishment. "There's no S at the end of Chronicle! Right?"

Mokona made a pleased sound. "That's right! It's funny how Syaoran-kun just assumes...Or how people just don't bother, huh?"

A/N: I get butt-hurt when people say Tsubasa Chronicles...Well, META IS OVER.
