Brian woke to the phone ringing. As he looked down he saw Justin's arms wrapped around his chest. He smiled. He never would admit this to anyone, especially not Justin, but he loved it when Justin slept like this.

"Hello?"

"Brian?" Jennifer's voice came through.

"Mrs Taylor?" He sat up. "Is everything okay?"

"I'd like to talk to Justin please." Jennifer's voice was shaking. Brian nudged Justin. Justin moaned in his sleep.

"Go 'way Bri."

"Justin it's your mom," said Brian. "She sounds upset."

Justin's eyes fluttered open, his face looked confused and half asleep.

"My mom? Why is she calling?"

"Dunno, but she sounds upset," Brian repeated. He watched as Justin took the phone.

"Mom? What's wrong?" He watched as Justin's confused face turned to shock and horror. "Oh my God..." Justin turned his back on Brian then and jerked away when Brian touched him.

"What's happening?" Brian whispered. Justin ignored him and continued to murmur to his mother.

"I'll be over there as soon as possible." Finally he hung up the phone and sat there, staring at the wall.

"Justin?" Brian asked. "What is it? You're scaring me."

"It's Daphne." Justin's voice was shaky.

Brian fell silent as he waited for him to finish.

"Daphne's dead."

Brian sucked in his breath as he felt shock enter his body. Daphne...Justin's best friend, his only real friend in high school was dead...He closed his eyes.

"Justin-"

"DON'T say anything," Justin growled and jerked away from Brian's touch.

"Justin.. I'm sorry-"

"Don't!" Justin shouted again. He turned and faced Brian, his eyes flashing anger. "Do you know what happened?" He spat. Brian shook his head quietly. "She was shot. She was in a store that had gotten robbed. She was trying to protect a woman and her child and got shot."

Brian flinched at the cruelity of Daphne's fate.

"Justin...I can't even imagine-"

"You're right," Justin growled. "You can't, cause your best friend is still alive...imagine if Micheal was dead."

The words hit him like a slap. He tried to picture it but couldn't. Justin nodded, knowingly.

"So don't even try...to say anything." Justin's throat closed. He aws going crazy. So many emotions...and Brian was staring at him with pity in his eyes. He didn't want Brian's fucking pity...he wanted Daphne back Brian just sat there, usnure of what to say. He had never seen Justin this unglued before, but then again Justin had never lost anyone before. He closed his eyes as he tried to picture Micheal dead. He couldn't bring himself to face that possibilty.

"Justin..."He let the sentence trail off. He was unsure of what to say anyway.

"I have to go," whispered Justin. "I have to...get out...I said I'd go over to Daphne's parents house..."

"I'll go with you-"

"No." Justin shook his head. "This is something I have to do alone."

Brian nodded.

"Justin!" He said again as Justin started to leave. Justin froze, his body completly still. "I'm sorry," Brian whispered. "I know that won't bring her back, but really...I am honestly truly sorry."

Justin nodded.

"I know," he whispered. He placed his hand on the door. "Thank you," he finally mumbled before he left. Brian closed his eyes. That thank you wasn't much but it said enough for Brian. It said Justin wasn't going to shut him out completly.

He placed his hands over his face as he thought of sweet Daphne being had always liked Daphne. He liked how she stood up for Justin, and fought for what was right. He liked the fact Justin had someone his own age to talk to. They were best friends since kids, very much like Micheal and Brian. The thought of anything happening to Micheal made Brian sick to his stomach.

He sat there unsure of what to say or how to help Justin, but sure of one thing.

Things would never be the same again.
