ONE MAN'S TRIVIA, IS ANOTHER MAN'S KNOWLEDGE.

Vincent is by far my favourite intern, and I wrote this a 2 in the morning after watching the first episode he was in. Where did Vincent's love of facts stem from?

He can still remember his first ever fact, "Did you know that butterflies taste with their feet? Did you know that Vinnie?"

Vincent was 5 when his grandfather began unloading his pearls of wisdom onto his youngest grandchild.

It was spring and whilst his grandfather rocked back and forth in his chair, Vincent chased butterflies around the garden.

"Wow, with their feet?" Vincent beamed at the elderly man, his eyes inquisitorial and his smile full of glee.

From that moment onwards his grandfather would share random facts each time Vincent came to visit.

"Gramps, im stuck with my English homework." An 8 year old Vincent cried, as he attempted to finish off his poem.

"What's wrong?" soothed the elderly man as he comforted the young boy.

"I need a word that rhymes with 'orange'."

"Did you know that there is no word in the English language that rhymes with month, silver, purple, and sadly orange?"

"So I'll have to change my poem?" Vincent sniffled.

"I'm afraid so." He replied, wiping away Vincent's tears.

"I'll never understand girls, gramps. They're so, so..."

"Different to us men?"

"Well yeah." Aged 16 and Vincent's relationship was still as close as ever with his grandfather. He had just had his heart broken for the first time, and headed straight to the care home in which his grandfather lived.

"Did you know that men can read smaller print than women? But women can hear better than men?"

"I guess that's why she complained that i never listened to her" The youngster chuckled, as he had hoped his grandfather had taken his mind off of his ex-girlfriend.

"Im thinking of moving to the US, there's this amazing opportunity to work with Dr Temperance Brennen. What do you think?"

Vincent had gone to his grandfather for clarification that his plans to move across the pond once he finished his final year at Leeds University were good. His mother and father both agreed that Vincent should stay in the UK, and stated that they could not support his decision.

"I, uh, think. Its. Amazing." His grandfather replied, slowly and gasping for air.

"So no amazing facts for me today?"

"Urm. Did you know? That the human eye blinks an average of 4,200,000 times a year?"

"No i did not, but thanks" Vincent sighed a breath of relief, his grandfather may have been sick but he knew as long as he continued to spout facts then everything would be alright. After a couple of hours of chatter the elderly man had fallen asleep, Vincent prepared himself to leave his grandfather's hospital bed. He leaned in and kissed his grandfather on the forehead, and walked away.

"Did you know...?" His grandfather's words stopped him.

"I thought you were asleep?"

"Did you know...i am so proud of you?" He smiled from behind his oxygen mask.

"I did" Vincent replied full of woe "I've always known"

Holding his hand, Vincent held back tears. His mother was already a mess, and he knew he had to be strong for her. He had to be strong for his grandfather, as they stood around the hospital bed they awaited the disconnection from the life support machine, they awaited the death of a beloved family member.

Vincent knew and could except that this was the best thing for his grandfather, he couldn't bear to see him suffer anymore.

Once alone with the deceased body, Vincent leaned in close to share one last fact

"Gramps, did you know i love you and i will never forget you. You know that right?"

"Ange, your painting is beautiful." Dr Brennen exclaimed.

"Well the victim's mother said she loved butterflies, so i drew her among the creatures she loved so much."

"Did you guys know that butterflies taste with their feet?" Vincent exclaimed, smiling at the knowledge that his grandfather lived on.
