Chapter 111- Eighteen
"Okay, your examination is over," the vet said, making a note in Kurt's file. "There is just one more thing we have to talk about."
Kurt was having his regular check up but this time he was doing it alone. Burt, Carole, Finn and Blaine had rarely left him on his own now days, ever since Karofsky and it was the first time in weeks he had time to himself. When nobody said they could take him to the vet he had jumped at the chance to go alone.
"What about?" Kurt asked, his tail swishing behind him. He cocked his head to one side curiously. Although he hated going to the vet he had been brave going by himself and wanted to continue despite the gnawing fear that the vet was going to tell him bad news.
"When you were injected with the faulty cure," the vet said, seeing Kurt's wince. "I told you it had altered you DNA and so you wouldn't be able to get the correct cure."
Kurt nodded. "Yes, I remember. Has something happened? Am I reverting again?"
"No, nothing like that. It's about your DNA," he said. He took a deep breath. "I've done some tests on this, since your last check up. It looks like you are able to have children."
Kurt blinked. "What?"
"When the cure altered your DNA, it altered enough that you are able to have children," the vet said. "Which mean, when you fully mature in the next few weeks, you will be able to become pregnant."
His first thought was that he was glad he had come alone.
"There is nothing to worry about," his vet continued. "Just make sure when you have sex to wear protection and be aware of your heats which is when you will have the highest chance of getting pregnant." He rummaged through his draw and pulled out some pamphlets. "Here is some more information and if you need to talk, just make an appointment with me."
Kurt took them with trembling hands and said a quick thanks. He hurriedly tucked his ears in and tail before leaving the vet, his mind a million miles away.
"Where's Kurt?" Nick asked as he looked around the cafeteria. Now that Kurt was back at school it was hard to find Kurt without his boyfriend Blaine.
Blaine scowled at his lunch. "I don't know."
"Whoa, what's going on?" Wes asked, looking at his friend with concern. "You haven't…" he trailed off, not able to say the words.
"No," Blaine said quietly. "But, Kurt's ignoring me and I have no idea why. I don't know if I've pissed him off or what but he's been ignoring me."
"Well, he hasn't said anything to us," David said. "Maybe Derek knows."
Blaine shrugged. "I'm not sure. I guess I could ask."
"It doesn't hurt," Jeff agreed.
Blaine looked around the lunchroom and spotted Derek with his friend Joey. Abandoning his non-eaten lunch, he hurried over to the hybrid and slid into an open seat beside him.
"Hey Blaine," Joey smiled.
"Hey, guys. Derek, can I ask you something?" Blaine asked.
"Sure, what's up?" Derek asked.
Blushing, Blaine said, "Has Kurt said anything to you about me?"
"Like what?" Derek frowned.
"He's been ignoring me. Did I do something to piss him off?" Blaine asked.
Derek frowned. "He hasn't said anything to me."
Blaine sighed. "Damn. I guess I'll have to ask Burt if he knows."
"Hang in there," Derek said, patting him on shoulder.
"He hasn't said anything," Burt grunted over the phone to Blaine. "He's been pretty quiet though. I haven't heard him speak much and he's taken to hiding lately."
This was news to Blaine. "Really?"
"Yeah, we haven't actually seen him much. He comes down to dinner but then quickly disappears."
"You don't think it's Karofsky do you?" Blaine asked worriedly.
"No, Kurt knows better than to keep that to himself again," Burt sighed. "I really don't know what going on with him but I can guarantee it's a cat thing."
An idea suddenly sparked Blaine. "I could ask my aunt Kat."
"That's not a bad idea," Burt agreed. "We should have her around for dinner."
"I'll call her."
Kurt's ears twitched as he heard multiple voices downstairs. He instantly recognized Blaine's voice and it took him a moment to decipher the new voice. Finally, it clicked. It was Blaine's aunt, Kat.
Confused, Kurt slunk down off the roof, slipping through his open window. It was the only place in the house that nobody could bother him. He straightened his clothes and headed down stairs. As soon as he stepped into the living room, all eyes were on him.
"Hello, Kat," Kurt said politely.
Kat smiled warmly at Kurt, purring quietly. Her ears twitched and her tail swished behind her as she went to him and pulled him into a gentle hug. "Hello, Kurt. It's good to see you again."
Kurt smiled and hugged her back. When he was released he went to Blaine who was watching him nervously. Kurt kissed him lightly on the lips and murmured a hello.
Blaine relaxed and smiled. "Hello, love." His smile brightened when he heard Kurt purring.
"Boys, I could use your help in the kitchen," Carol called and in a blink of an eye Blaine, Finn and Burt had disappeared into the kitchen, leaving Kat and Kurt alone.
"Subtle," Kurt said dryly.
Kat laughed. "I know right. How are you doing? Blaine has filled me in on everything."
Leading them to the living room, Kurt sat on the couch, folding himself up. "I'm doing okay. Is that why you are here?"
Kat shrugged. "Everyone is sort of worried about you. You've been ignoring Blaine and you haven't been speaking much to your family."
Kurt looked down at his lap. "I haven't been meaning too."
"Want to tell me what going on?" Kat coaxed gently.
Kurt sighed. "I…I lost the collar Blaine gave me. It means everything to me and I've lost it and I didn't want Blaine to know and I have been looking everywhere but I can't find it." Kurt pouted at Kat, his ears dropping lowly.
"You should just tell Blaine," Kat said, relieved that it was nothing too serious. "I'm sure he can help you look for it and he won't be mad."
"I lost it after the incident with Karofsky. I know how mad Blaine is about that," Kurt said quietly.
"He won't be mad," Kat promised. "Now, why have you been ignoring your family?"
At this, Kurt blushed.
"What is it?" Kat grinned.
"I went to the vet," Kurt mumbled. "And he said my DNA had changed." Kurt voice had dropped to a whisper. "Smell me."
Intrigued, Kat sniffed Kurt closely. As she tried to decipher what he was talking about the scents became familiar and her eyes widened comically. "Oh my!" she breathed. "You're…"
Kurt's blush deepened and he nodded. "Yeah."
"I take it you haven't told anyone that you can get…" Kat trailed off, casting a look at the door. They had lowered their voice enough that only the two of them could hear what they were saying. Nobody in the kitchen would be able to hear this.
"No," Kurt shook his head violently. "I don't really know how to tell my dad or Carol and Finn. They struggle with this enough as it is."
"I think," Kat said. "That you should just tell them straight so they stop worrying the worst and this becomes a bigger deal then it has to be."
Kurt nodded. "I'll tell them." He let out a pitiful meow. "This is so embarrassing."
Kat laughed loudly. "This isn't nearly embarrassing as it can get." She laughed harder as Kurt's eyes widened with fear.
Thank you so much and happy reading everyone :)
