Sectumsempra

Harry woke up bathed in sweat, the remnants of an old nightmare flashing through his mind.

He still remembers the fury and the blankness he felt as he walked into that bathroom. Draco became the target for all the pain, the guilt and especially the grief that he had been keeping in after Sirius' death.

All he saw was the wand in front of him. He wanted it. He needed this adrenaline. It was the only thing which kept him alive and a duel with his schoolyard rival was the perfect way to get the adrenaline kick.

He loved the feeling of power, the unimportant flurry of curses and hexes, the dodging and the parrying. They were the only things that could remind him he was alive, he was still living.

Until that one curse.

Sectumsempra

The view of the crumpled figure of Draco Malfoy, someone Harry always saw as indestructible broke him. Even seeing the look of fury on Snape's face could not break him from the trance. He had done that to Draco. Sure, he was annoying and was about to Crucio him but to hurt him so badly was an action Harry could not live with.

This fact pushed Harry towards his next promise. He vowed to himself that he would look out for Draco.

Draco stayed in the Hospital Wing for three weeks and every night Harry sneaked there under his invisibility cloak and sat with him.

It was pure coincidence that Draco even realised he was there. The cloak slipped just as Draco woke up from his coma.

But despite the resulting comment being an insult, Harry stayed.

Even when Draco got Madam Pomfrey to get rid of him, he kept coming back until Pomfrey stopped asking.

Over the next few weeks Harry broke Draco's shell and what he saw he fell in love with.

At the same time, unknown to Harry, Draco was doing the same thing.

They opened up to each other, both revealing their gruesome childhoods, their fears about their parts in the war and what they wished could happen in the future.

Despite their connection as soon as Draco was out of the hospital the world they had created was broken.

They tried to stay together but the pressure from their friends and the media and Draco's family were too much to cope with. Their worlds separated again and they were forced to play their parts in the war.

However both of them remembered their time in that hospital and on the loneliest nights on a Horcrux hunt or in exile with Voldemort those memories were the ones that kept them going.

It was the thought of Harry that stopped Draco killing Dumbledore.

It was the thought of Draco that gave Harry the power to walk to his death only to return again.

Once the war was over it was not Hermione and Ron that Harry went to, it was Draco.

He ran to the Great Hall and dragged Malfoy from his family apologising as he did so.

The world that had separated them did not matter to them. It did not exist. All they cared about was that they were together again. They could be whole.

Harry slowly turned over and looked at the perfect pale chest that was lying next to him. Harry slowly traced the inflamed scars scattered all over. Scars that he had caused.

He lightly kissed along the scars then whispered, "I'm not sorry"

"Harry?" Draco asked voice still muffled by sleep, "What are you doing?"

With a slight smile Harry replied, "Waking up my husband."
