Note: Prompt taken from the Twilight Drabble-a-thon Take Two list (LJ).

"Seth!"

Jacob looked up from where he had been staring at the ground, his hands in his pockets. He barely caught the blur that was Seth as he ran around the corner of the house before the door slammed against the doorframe. The only reason he saw even that glimpse of Seth was because the younger boy tripped just as he rounded the corner.

Leah had started down the porch stairs when he called out to her. "Hey Leah! What's going on?" It was then he realized she was crying. Jacob stopped and stared, it wasn't everyday one saw Leah Clearwater crying. He knew Harry was gone but… Leah just didn't cry.

Leah rubbed her eyes quickly and glared at him. "Really Jacob? You're really asking me that?"

"Easy… I just want to know why Seth went running out of the house like his heels were on fire."

"He's upset."

"For good reason. I'll go after him."

"I was going…"

"You should stay with your mom. I'll go."

Leah sighed. "Alright…"

Jacob nodded and jogged off into the forest following Seth's scent. He didn't have to go far before he found Seth on his knees in front of a giant Red Wood. The younger's shoulder's were shaking with his sobs and Jacob could smell the strong scent of wolf around him. With his emotions so high Jacob knew that Seth was unstable, especially being such a new wolf. Jacob opened his mouth to say Seth's name, to let him know that he was there… when Seth screamed.

It was the worst thing Jacob had ever heard… he wrapped his arms around himself. He closed his eyes against the scream waiting until it had ended. Once again he opened his mouth to say something but this time he was stopped by Seth's hoarse voice, raw from his scream.

"Don't."

"Seth…"

"I said don't!" Seth cried. "You won't understand, you can't understand!"

"I lost my mom…"

"And you were what… six when she died?"

Jacob stared at Seth's back. He couldn't believe something so cold had come out of the boy's mouth. Seth didn't have a mean bone in his body.

Seth bent over as he cried. He screamed again, not the same scream as before, this scream came from his form transforming into that of a wolf. Jacob quickly shed and also phased not wanting to leave Seth alone when he needed him most. Approaching slowly Jacob licked Seth's cheek and then the rest of his face. Seth whined but didn't pull or run away from the touch.

I'm sorry Jake… I shouldn't have said that…

It's okay.

But it's not. I shouldn't have said that, I know you felt pain similar to this when your mom died. But… you were just so young. Do you even remember it?

Not really, Jacob answered sadly. He wanted to remember, he had tried but it was just something that escaped him.

Then you can't understand… it's more than just hearing it… it's feeling it too. If you ever hear that scream come straight from your soul… you'll understand.

Seth's words were true; Jacob knew that, so he didn't speak. He just lay down beside Seth licking his face occasionally. Later they would both look back on that day and see it as a turning point… a day they shared something deeper than anything else could make them feel.

It didn't have a name. But when you felt it, you would know it.
