Author's Note: So I was think we've all wondered at one point what would have happened if Gale had finished his sentence that day when the peacekeepers tore him away, well-here goes.
"Katniss, remember I love you!" Those last words Gale has said to me were screeching in my brain as we neared District 12. I didn't want to face all those people, the people who were still mourning Peeta. Is this what it's like, to return to a place where you victory means something…but there are still the heartbroken faces surrounding you for the lose of the other tribute.
We pull into the train station. I brace myself for what is about to come. Effie gives me one last hug and I drone out Haymitch who is probably drunk and saying nothing important anyways. The doors to the train slide open and flashing lights blind me as I step out onto the platform. All around people are screaming my name, I smile and wave to them as tears stream down my face. Effie leans over and tells me that I'm smearing my makeup. I don't care. I let the big, fat tears roll down my cheeks as I hug my mother and Prim. Then, Gale comes into view.
"Katniss…" Gale takes it all in hugging me. "You came home."
"I…I love you Gale." I tell him.
Its funny how just a few simple seconds can change the future. Gale got to finish his sentence to Katniss never became a "star-crossed lover". She never saves Peeta in the arena, there was never a rebellion, and forever the Hunger Games live on. The world remains the way it was, hopeless and lost because of one second that changed everyone's lives. Everyone we meet, everywhere we go, everything we say changes the whole world. And sometimes…the fate of the well-being of the people depends on you…and the actions you take.
