It's been a long time since I've written fanfiction, and even longer since I've watched Fullmetal Alchemist all the way through. But I began watching it again a few days ago, and I was sucked back in immediately, and I just couldn't help myself. It's just a drabble to feed the need, and it likely has the potential to be so much better. I tried to keep the details to a minimum, because I haven't had a chance to watch the entire series again just yet. But, enjoy!

Disclaimer: Fullmetal Alchemist belongs to Hiromu Arakawa, Bones, etc.

And even if the words don't sound right, I will love you until the day my heart dies.

In the midst of death, her own death, she was nothing. Nothing but a mass of blood and bones, of trembling muscles and illusions. She had expected it to be colder than the outer edges of the universe, to freeze her soul completely through, but it was surprisingly warm.

She was surprisingly comfortable.

She kept her eyes open, somewhat halfheartedly fighting the seeping blackness, as the blood intended for her brain spilled onto the concrete beneath her. She only wanted to see him, for a second, for an eternity.

And she did. Her eyes, locking on his, before she closed them to him, finally. She should've kissed him, at some point. Such useless thoughts. He was holding her. She should've held him.

He was yelling at her, shaking her, clutching her to his chest. He was a mixture of full-blown panic, of rage, of terror, but she couldn't hear him. Just the soft rhythmic "I love you, I love you, I love you" swirling endlessly in the blackness of her mind, and vanishing with the silent, slow movement of her lips.

She only wanted him to listen.
