Almost Midnight

Ash walked up the stairs. It was silent around his home. It was almost midnight which meant his whole family was asleep in their bedrooms. Ash walked along the hall. First he opened the door of his youngest child Amelia's room. He found her curled into a small ball, holding her bright pink teddy bear against her chest. Ash walked over to her and tucked the duvet around her gently. Then he walked out of the room, closing her door behind him.

Next he went to his middle child's bedroom. Sarah was the older girl out of his two girls and she was defiantly the noisier out of the two. She looked a lot more like Ash than Mary-Lynette than Amelia did. And she was more likely to try to get out doing chores and always getting into trouble. Sarah was a proper daddy's girl, she always listened to him. Ash picked up the teddies that had been kicked on the floor and put them all back at the end of his daughter's bed where they belonged. She would cause such a fuss if she found all of them on the floor, the teddies would not survive it. He planted a small kiss on the top of her head then walked out, closing the door behind him.

Finally he went to his oldest child's bedroom. Jesse was the first born and the only son of Mary-Lynette and Ash. He was very mature for his age. He had obviously got his brains from his mom because he also loved astronomy. Ash turned off the television. Jesse must have fallen asleep while watching 'Family Guy' again. Ash picked up a few unwashed, dirty shirts and threw them neatly into the wash bin (where Jesse was meant to put all his dirty clothes and not leave them on the floor). Ash smiled, closed the door and headed towards his own room.

Ash smiled when he found his beautiful sleeping wife, curled up in their bed. He pulled off his shirt and jeans and climbed into bed next to his wife. Mary-Lynette seemed to sense her husband was near to her because she moved closer towards him. Ash placed a comforting arm around her and held her close. He had the perfect family; a beautiful wife and three, sometimes annoying, yet perfectly great kids.
