You see right through me

How do you do that shit?

How do you do that shit?

How do you do that shit?

How do you?

How do you?

How do you?

Silence. Despair. Lonesomeness.

I'm here, all alone in some insane asylum. No one will listen to me. They tell me that demons don't exist. That I'm just making it all up. But it's not true. Demons exist. I'm living proof that they do.

As I go through my life for the hundredth time in my head, I hear—

"Grubbs, you've got a visitor today."

A visitor? I haven't had one in weeks. I won't cooperate with anyone. I've barely spoken at all since coming here. Every time I open my mouth, I mention Lord Loss. It's like a curse.

The nurse lets the visitor in.

The metal doors creek open. They reveal a girl. She's much shorter than me—I'm a giant—with short, straight black hair that barely reaches her shoulders. She has thick black glasses. Her eyes are warm and friendly. She's wearing black shorts—some of the shortest I've ever seen. They wouldn't even be considered boxers. On her feet are some bright red converse with odd drawings all over them. She's wearing a purple T-shirt with some boy with stretchy-looking limbs and a stick figure face wearing an odd white hat with little animal —bear?—ears sticking out of it. He's knocking knuckles with an orange dog with stretchy limbs. Above them it says: "What time is it?" and below them it says: "ADVENTURE TIME!" In my delirium, I barely recall that I've seen this girl somewhere before. But where?

She sits right across from me in the empty chair.

"Hey," she says sweetly.

I just stare back at her.

"So, I heard that your parents were killed by demons," she tells me casually.

Where in the world did she hear that?

The nurses couldn't have told her. They don't even believe that. They think I'm just speaking rubbish. Other than them, no other visitors know about the demons. How does she know?

"I'd tell you more about them, but it's not my job to," she whispers.

What does she know about them? Wait, how does she know about them to begin with?

"So, Grubbs, you've seen me around, right? I go to your school, remember?" she asks.

Ah, that's where I've seen her. Of course. School. A public place. I mentally slap myself. Get it together, Grubbs! You're not really insane.

"Well, I just wanted to tell you that you're not alone at all. There are more people than you think who've met demons. Just remember that. Oh and whenever you feel like talking, all you gotta do is request me." She smiles. "See ya back at school when you get better!" And with that, she's gone.

It's like she saw right through me.
