This takes place at the end of the second part of the seventh movie, after [spoiler warning] Harry defeats Voldemort and all. This is the movie 'verse, even though the category for Harry Potter here is under "books". The books and movies were fantastic, so you should read/watch them all. Though if you're reading this and haven't read the books or watched the movies...
Regular disclaimers: NONE of the characters are mine. They belong to JK Rowling, and are all dearly loved by the fan communities. Just the arrangement of words and such are mine. That's all ^^
Luna looked up from where she'd sat as a pillow for Neville. It had only been a few hours since Harry had killed Voldemort. Something had caught her eye, amid the masses of people, injured, well, and dead. Slowly, she eased her sleeping friend down onto the stone steps and stood. He would be all right there. It was easy enough to pick through the people to where they'd laid the dead. That was what had caught her eye, hours ago, during the night's cease fire.
"Well this won't do," she murmured, staring at two of the bodies. It was her old Defense Arts teacher, back in third year. He'd taught them about so many creatures, though they never got to some of her favorites, and a lot of what he taught had been wrong. He was a werewolf, too, if she remembered correctly. But what had caught her eye was his hand. It was stretched out for another, that of the woman next to him. She, too, even in death reached for him. Their fingertips didn't quite reach. Luna cocked her head, studying them a moment, before squatting down and moving their hands slightly. Now the fingers intertwined just a bit. "That's better," she said satisfactorily. Her work done, she stood and bumped into someone.
"Oh!" she exclaimed. He'd surprised her, whoever he was. That didn't happen much.
"Oh! Luna!" It was Neville. She looked down and smiled, pleased to see him. "You… I'm glad you did that, there." He gestured toward their hands. "Professor Lupin married her a few years ago, you see. They have a son, you know."
"That's sweet," Luna replied. A little one, all their own. "I just thought it was sad they were so close to each other, and wanted to touch, but couldn't." With a surreptitious glance at Neville's own empty hand, she blushed a little. "People should be able to hold the hands of those they love." She slid her hand into his. He jumped a little, but squeezed her hand back.
"Yeah… yeah they should." Neville smiled down at her, and she leaned on his arm, holding his hand tightly.
I always thought Neville and Luna would be absolutely adorable together. I was so happy with what they did in the movie with those two :D So I had to write about it. Also, it just bothered me that they didn't give Lupin and Tonks even as little as each others' hand to hold in death. I can sort of understand why they did it, but still. Did it bother anyone else, or am I just a sentimental sap? ;)
