Chapter 1: World Voids

Let me tell you, I didn't always live in the dimension of Pokémon. I'm not sure how I got here even. I was living in the same dimension I hope you're in (If not, put this down, because none of this will make a lick 'a sense). The planet was called Earth if I remember correctly. Before I go on, maybe I should tell you more about myself. I'm 5 foot 8 inches, thin and lanky. My hair is brown and my eyes are a light grey-blue, like they don't want to commit to one color. My face is hard to describe, but people always think I'm mad because I scowl like a puppy just died. My eyes are always shifty, because I'm always observing and analyzing. I'm quite pale, and my nose is rather small. I tend to be suspicious and perhaps a little paranoid. The areas around my eyes are dark, like I could be an insomniac. I'm not an insomniac, I just spend too much time reading late at night.

Am I intelligent? Honestly, the answer is yes. I'm not trying to blow it out of proportion or anything, but most of the time people think I'm a genius or something. I'm not. I wear a lot of black. I'm not gothic; I just like the color. Police instantly either peg me as a trouble maker, or pass me over because they think I'm a goody two shoes. I'm most defiantly not a goody two shoes, but I've never done anything bad enough to get arrested for.

That's enough about me for now. Back to the story here. So it's my sixteenth birthday and I'm just walking into my house. The hallway to my room is always dark, just because no lights were built near it until you get inside. I'm heading in, about to go grab a book and read… and there's a glowing door in my closet. I do the natural thing and take a step back. A big, glowing, floating rectangular panel of light. As I walk around it I see it's two dimensional, no width at all. It just floats there in the air. Here's the part I always ask myself nowadays, what would someone else have done? I reached out and touched it. I felt my feet lift off the ground. I hover just for a second, and then I'm sucked into the Light.

I can only describe what happens next vaguely, as I was trying not to throw up. Thousands of lights and colors whirl past my head. I'm in a sort of tubular slide, flying down the middle. The walls of the tubes are panels of lights and pictures of faces and places. People I don't know and places I've never seen before is a very popular décor in this strange world. Nobody is in the tube with me as I fall at what must be hundreds of miles an hour. Everything starts to blur together as I pick up speed. Lost, confused, and rather motion sick, I start flailing. I brush up against something and and I'm thrown forward.

The colors all snap in to place, forming trees in forest. I've got my back up against a rock? There's something on me…It's hot and sticky, red and all over me? What could it be? Something is going on right in front of me but I'm too woozy to see that far. I touch the red smears, trying to wrap my mind around the situation. I just can't seem to think, everything is hazy and blurry. A hot sensation flows by my head, smashing into whatever is behind me. My eyes focus a little as I squint. Was that blood I was touching? Oh…oh, god….It's everywhere…all over me... Is it mine? Pain blossoms on my left side, near my heart. The pain does one good thing, clears my head. I moved my arm to my side. Where my side normally was, there was a large rip. My god, half the skin was gone, like something had taken a bite out of me. I look up, focusing on the flurry of blurry colors in front of me.

As I focus I have to take a moment to ask myself if what I'm seeing is because of the pain. There's a small red and black dog running around a large blue and red spined…crocodilian in front of me. There's two of the little dogs? One is attacking at the blue things feet, while the other one jumps and makes passing snaps at the blue crocodiles face and back. I notice something to my right, almost close enough to see. A little red fox? I struggle to stay awake through the pain. The fighting creatures are roaring, the blue thing roaring the loudest of them all. The critter on my right was whimpering, watching the fight. She yipped and both other dogs back up. The small fox on my right took a deep breath and then blew fire at the blue lizard. Fire? What kind of fox breathes fire? Once the stream hits the blue reptile full on in the face it reels back, leaning as far as its lithe body will let it. It has tan under-scales. It suddenly snaps forward spraying water at the three canines. But it never makes it…something large, scaly, and green rushes into the path of the water. The three canines take a look at the intruder and rush back to me.

The pain is building, and I can't seem to breath anymore. Nothing is clear anymore and everything becomes blurry. My hand, (My right one, seeing as my left side won't move) falls limp. I see the blue alligator fighting the green hulking beast. They seem evenly matched, then something jumps onto the blue ones back, it's little more than a purple smear with red eyes. I can stay awake no longer, and succumb to merciful unconsciousness.

So I lost three and half pints of blood. Big deal, that won't keep me down. Waking up from anesthetics is bit odd the first time. I woke up groggy and more than a little hungry, but at least there was no pain. I was clearly in a hospital bed. I was the only patient in the room, although there was an unoccupied bed to my left. I leaned up as much as I could and saw two strangers sleeping in the chairs at the other end of the room. They both looked rather familiar. I took stock of the situation. As soon as I got a little flash of pain from my left side my mind began dissecting the situation. I clearly had been dreaming or hallucinating. I was unsure as to the extent or nature of my injury, but I knew I had to have one because I'm in a hospital. I'm not on the ground floor, because I can see the street outside through my window, where it was extremely sunny outside. Not a cloud in the sky. I examined the two people across from me. One must've been forty; he had pepper grey mustache and hair coloration. He was wearing a business suit that was rumpled, like he had been here all night. But he couldn't be an official; they wouldn't sleep in a hospital chair to talk to me…odd. The other person was probably about 23. He had an impish face, like he spent all his time smiling. He was slouched so far in the chair his chest was parallel to the floor. His hair was dark brown, and his nose was pointy and sharp like mine. They were each a couple of inches taller than me. They looked similar, perhaps Father and Son? That was the most likely. They both had dark bags under their eyes and crumpled clothes. Been waiting on me to wake up? Possible, but odd. They both seemed familiar, even though I knew I'd never seen them before. The older one kind of looked like my Dad, although there were some notable differences. My Dad wears glasses and his hair is dark grey, but the salt and pepper was what he had had before grays. All this I took in over the time span of a few seconds.

….Did I want to try to wake them? First I should check myself; they could give me more info. Pain had come from my left side in small flashes or jabs shortly after I had awoken. I ran my left arm down my side. I didn't feel my skin as it traveled down my side, a sign of powerful anesthetics. My skin was all wrong, it was to close to my inner torso, like some giant had run a razor over my side a few too many times. The skin was lumpy and knobbed. I counted 108, close-knit, small stitches holding the skin together. Oh god, what could have possibly happened to me? I ran checks over my body, and found three long gashes on my back. they weren't deep, but they reached all the way across, like whatever had raked me was much larger than I. My right leg had a row of small, uneven….tooth marks on it. Vaguely I thought back to the attack. Three small red canines and a blue dinosaur creature. Dinosaur, that wasn't right now, was it? It's clearly wasn't a dinosaur, those were extinct, what was- One of the guys across from me stirred, shaking me out of my damage report. It was the twenty-something year old. He leaned up, stretched, yawned loudly, and stood up abruptly. For the first time I noticed his clothes. He wore a black cloak with many pockets that fell all the way down to his ankles. He had black stubble. He was wearing a…yes, he was wearing a black fedora. Several chains were added to his (black) cargo shorts and his legs showed. He had quite the knobby knees. His shoes were (guess what, they're black) massive, steel soled, and steel toed combat boots, like he was about to go out and hunt down some vampires.

He was quite the character. Vaguely he looked around with eyes still half closed from sleep. As he turned towards me I saw under his coat he was wearing a bright yellow shirt with an upside down brown star on it. As he yawned once again I made my presence known. "Hello, there." I said to him. He spun alarmed, and slipped on the hospital floor, tumbling into my I.V. stand and knocking it down. (Along with a tray on my table with several bottles pills on it.) I just stared at him while stealthily reaching for my panic button. Luckily the racket woke the older man, whom leaned up, stretched, yawned loudly, and stood up abruptly. I immediately noticed that this was also something the first person had done, down to the letter. However, he slowly opened his eyes all the way instead walking around blindly. Practice makes perfect I guess. "Oh, so you're awake now eh, Jack?" They knew my name. Apparently they knew who I was, even if i'd never met them. "Erm, yes." The twenty year old got off the floor, completely ignoring the slightly bleeding cut above his left eye. "So! Are you feeling okay?" He said happily. "Like I know, I'm still drugged up on whatever." I told him. Okay, that was enough of their questions, time for my own. "Where am I?" "You're in Rustboro's Hospital, Jack." Rustboro? That did sound a little familiar too, but I wasn't sure how. "So", began the older one, "How much do you remember?" I looked at him. He seemed the friendly type, but I was a little wary of being with strangers in hospital. Suddenly a horrible thought came to my head. I was in the hospital, where were my parents? Shouldn't they be here instead of these two people? Were they hurt and these two were here to tell me that? Was I an orphan? I tried to recall things my parents had said….but I couldn't recall the sound off their voices. Or their faces, or even identities. I just came up with shadowed faces of two people, one with grey hair and glasses, the other (My Mom) shorter and brown haired.

"Ooooh, Jack?" called the younger one; "You in there?" "Hmm? What is it." I snapped at him. He paused for a second his eyes shot wide open and the smile dropped off his face. He looked rather shocked, as did the older Man. I couldn't take their incredulous stares so I expanded the question. "What! What did you guys' want to know?" I glowered at them. "Jack…erm, you feeling okay? We can call the nurses back here if you're in pain. We could let you sleep?" said the old one. I considered it, before deciding I needed to know. "Alright, I can't remember what happened to me. Can you tell me?" That made them stop staring at me like I had dropped from space. "Well you see, you were attacked by a wild Feralgatr. Bones, Sune, and Ripper didn't stand a chance against the more powerful water type. You never released Frath. When the Feralgatr was close to beating your Pokémon is when Manson showed up and unleashed Grin and Ty onto the Feralgatr. I arrived then, caught Feralgatr, and then had Alakazam teleport you to Rustboro's Pokémon center. He stayed with you until you were at the hospital and then he came back and teleported me here. Manson got here by shadow step."

It was most definitely my turn to stare at them creepily. What's with all these other people he's mentioning? AND DID HE SAY Pokémon CENTER! I stared at them until the younger one who seemed confused with my reactions finally spoke up. "Okay, I'm sorry I didn't keep a closer eye on you, but you did stray pretty far from the boundaries. You're lucky I found you at all." I had no idea what he was talking about. "I'm sorry…." I began, "But what are your names?" They both paled and stared at me. That's how the nurse found us all, me lying in the bed in my hospital gown, staring at them while they both just stood there staring at me. The nurse watched for a full minute before she muttered; "Um, Mr. Sheldrake?" All three of our heads turned like owls to stare at HER now. She started sweating at the display and stuttered a little. 'J-jack will need s-several more hours of s-s-sleep, but when you come back he'll be ready for the whole family." Whole family? How many? Both of my visitors nodded. The older one walked out like a regular person, but the younger one walked straight at the shadows in the corner. I expected him to hit the wall and bounce off, but as soon as he hit the wall he kept walking. Walking through the wall! The nurse and I stared at the spot where he had left. I decided now was as good a time as any to hit the panic button.

I woke up later to see six people crowded around my bed. This time they noticed that I woke up immediately. I could see they were having a discussion, and judging by their faces it was probably about me. Seeing how none of them started talking first and I didn't want to get into a staring contest with six people I decided to talk first. "So what's the bad news?" The Older woman answered. She was obviously the mom. "You have to stay here tonight and tomorrow sweetie." Sweetie? What the heck? "You got chomped on! Om-nom-nom-nom!" The four year old little girl with blond pigtails told me. She didn't look as familiar to me as the two guys did. I took stock of the room and the people in it. There was the older man, Mr. Sheldrake. The young adult that could walk through walls, Manson. The older Woman, the mom. A Teenage Girl who looked my age with waist length blond hair who was watching me disinterestedly. She must've been a year or two older than me. That left the little girl who was still making Om-nom sounds and holding an imaginary bone with meat on it in front of her mouth. Except for the little girl, they all looked grim and concerned. The mom's eyes were red, she had been crying. Possibly about me? I vaguely wondered why. Perhaps they were friends of my parents and somehow whatever killed them only injured me. Were they here to break the news?

"Hellooo!" I called out suddenly, alarming all of them but the little girl. The older girl popped the bubble gum she had been chewing on. The mom started a little bit. Mr. Sheldrake jumped and then his hands shot down to his waist. Manson jumped and all his metal jingled together. It was pretty funny to me, maybe just because I was stressed and drugged, but I found myself laughing like a lunatic. They all stared at me. Finally the older girl snapped. "What's so funny!" she yelled at me. "Julia!" The Mother growled at her child. The little girl on her mom's lap giggled happily. "So", I started again when I finished my laughing, "I believe you have some questions for me." I asked them. They stared at me until Mr. Sheldrake spoke. "I'll just ask you an old one again for starters. What do you remember of the attack?" He spoke quietly and slowly, as if he didn't really want to hear it. What weirdo would enjoy hearing stories about how a teenager almost died? (My mind's eye envisioned a chibi-me holding up his hand)

I started with my first memory. "I must've had hit my head on the rock I was backed up against. I'm not sure, but I had taken some hits from the blue dinosaur creature before then I think." "Wait", began the older girl, speaking in a holier-than-thou tone of voice. (I decided I didn't like her much.) "You don't remember the Feraligatr slashing your back or biting your leg?" I shook my head no glumly. She leaned back and said in an off-impressed tone of voice, "Must've hit your head pretty hard. Nothing ever normally hurts it." The mom shot Julia (The older girl) a glare. "So I'm backed up against this rock, I'm bleeding everywhere, and I can't see straight." I inform them. Mr. Sheldrake and Mrs. Sheldrake are hanging on my every word and chewing their fingernails. "What I can see is these two dogs and a fox, all of whom are red is some way, fighting against the… what did you call it? The three canines fighting against the Feraligatr. They start to lose and then this big green tank like lizard… lumbers in front of a waterspout the Feraligatr spit at us. And something purple with red eyes and a humongous smile covered the eyes of the Feralgatr. About that time I passed out and here we are." They absorbed this in silence. "So... I'm fine?" I ventured out loud. "Fine! Half the skin n your left side is gone, you're right leg and back are going to be permanently scarred and give you extra aches and pains when you're old, and you can't remember everything. You needed a blood transfusion, they had to put both Ripper and Bones through medical care, and you almost lost your left arm! But just FINE!" Screamed Mrs. Sheldrake at me. I sat and smiled at everything she told me. She watched me huffing angrily. Julia watched me wind her mother up with amusement. "You seem to care a lot." I said out loud. She instantly was confused, evidence showing on her face. Why wouldn't I be?" I looked at her closely, squinting my eyes, looking for minute details. Everyone watched me oddly. "So…Who or what are these 'Bones' and 'Ripper' you're talking about?" I asked them. Silence.

"They're your Pokémon!" Said the little girl happily.
