This is for my wonderful Beta, CrackingAndProudOfIt, better known as Crackers, who has put up with my horrible laziness. You'll notice that the first paragraph is straight from the Silmarillion, it's not mine.
"If none can release us," said Maglor, "then indeed the Everlasting Darkness shall be our lot, whether we keep our oath or break it; but less evil shall we do in the breaking."
Maedhros turned away, head bowing, left hand coming up to brace himself against a convenient tree. "I cannot believe that, brother," he murmured, his voice pained. "I must believe we can fulfill this damning oath."
"Why, Nelyo?" Maglor pleaded. "Please, let this be the end. I want no more of this."
"And you think I do?" Maedhros nearly shouted. "I am so sick of this Maglor, but…"
"But what?" Maglor asked, exasperated. Maedhros dropped his hand, and wrapped his arms around himself. He suddenly looked small, and defeated.
"I cannot face Darkness again," he whispered, sounding lost and frightened, so quiet Maglor almost couldn't hear him. "I cannot."
Maglor's heart broke as he gazed at his brother, still broken and scarred by what he had endured as a prisoner of Morgoth. While most said he had healed, Maglor knew better. His brother had never quite made it back from Thangorodrim.
"Alright, my brother. We shall fulfill our oath." Doomed or not, Maglor would stand by his brother.
So, this is actually a scene from a fic that I have planned, revolving around Elrond-Elros-Maglor-Maedhros. However, since I have no plans for writing that one anytime soon, Crackers told me to go ahead and write this. So, if you like it, thank her. ;)
