Mona Lisa
"Doctor?"
Her voice is soft, but so too were her footsteps, so Rose's presence in the console room comes as a shock to the Doctor; he sits up far too quickly and hit his head on the underside of the console. What could his companion possibly want at this time of night? - or, at least, what passed as night in the TARDIS.
"Ow," he hisses, rubbing his head, but then pretends to be fine as he scoots out into open air. "Yes, Rose?"
"D'you think - if it's not too much to ask, I mean - maybe we could visit ..." Rose is wringing her hands, and her nose is wrinkled up in that absolutely adorable manner that the Doctor just can't resist.
"Go on, Rosie," he encourages, beaming up at her. She smiles briefly, too, then does as he insists.
"Can we visit Leonardo da Vinci?"
The Doctor heaves a sigh. Of course, she would ask for one of the very few things he can't give her. "I'm sorry, Rose, but I don't think we can ... I owe him a chicken,"
Not that the Doctor actually owes da Vinci a chicken, but that's as close as he can get to summing the whole sticky situation up in less than an hour's worth of conversation.
"Oh," Rose says, and her shoulders slump. She looks so dejected, that the Doctor immediately jumps up and begins fiddling with the controls. He knows just what to do, so he sends Rose back to sleep, and ignores the looks of befuddlement she continues to send him over her shoulder as she retreats to her bedroom.
When Rose finally wakes up again, she stretches, takes a shower, and slowly chooses an outfit to wear. She does her makeup carefully, and when her deliberately lengthened morning routine is complete, she wanders into the console room. As she enters, she freezes, her eyes wide. "You didn't!" the Doctor's companion exclaims, and the Doctor finally makes an appearance.
"What?" he asks innocently, as he clambers out from under the console, completely ignoring the painting propped up against the wall behind him.
The Mona Lisa continues to smile mysteriously as Rose faints.
Vaguely inspired by The Summer Set's "Mona Lisa"
I don't own any of the characters, or the Mona Lisa, or the song.
Fluffy companion to the other Mona Lisa.
