Human to Gargoyle Chapter 26

Sunset had passed long ago with the gargoyles already awake for hours now. Despite the usual routine the gargoyles would have after awakening all that completely disappeared replaced with nothing but sorrow, despair, and pain. The events of the previous evening weighing heavily over their minds and hearts especially with one particular heartbroken gargoyle.

The very second he woke up Brooklyn wouldn't even leave his perch on the castle wall. He was carefully monitored with sympathy knowing that nothing was going to be able to curb his pain. Even his own rookery brothers knew to keep their distance at this point. On the top of his tower perch Goliath stared down at him from above and remained there for a while until he heard soft footsteps approach from behind signaling the arrival of Elisa.

Coming to his side placing a hand on his broad shoulder, Elisa asked "How is he?"

Shaking his head, Goliath answered "Not good. Physically he's here with us, but his mind is somewhere else entirely."

Laying her head against his arm, Elisa sighed "I wish there was something that could be done. It hurts to see him like this fallen in this dark acceptance." Hearing footsteps behind them Elisa turned her face darkening as she saw who their visitor was. "And it looks like he's not going to have much time to recover. Look who just showed up."

Turning Goliath saw who'd gotten Elisa so agitated. Owen had arrived with young Alexander in tow. Needless to say Goliath wasn't pleased with Owen inserting himself in this time of mourning.

Teeth bared, Goliath growled "What do you want?"

Fixing his glasses, Owen said "I apologize for intruding on such a difficult time for your clan, Goliath, but I ask that you all gather into the man hall."

"Why," demanded Elisa, suspicious.

"I cannot explain right now at this moment, Miss Masa," answered Owen, "but it is of the most importance that you all congregate there this very minute. Mr. and Mrs. Xanatos are already waiting there." With that Owen turned to head down the tower without a second glance Alexander grinning with glee at what he knew all the while.

Cautious, Elisa said "What was that all about."

"I don't know," sighed Goliath, shrugging. "I despise doing this, but it doesn't look like we can refuse." Fortunately the entire clan hadn't left the castle walls yet so it was easy to round them all up. Like him they were reluctant, but obeyed anyway. He made sure to save Brooklyn for last.

After gesturing to Elisa for her to go in without him he leapt from his tower gliding down to where Brooklyn was hunched over sulking. Placing a gentle hand on Brooklyn's shoulder, Goliath said "Come, my friend."

"Why should I," questioned Brooklyn, empty. "It's not like there's a point to anything anymore."

Sympathetically, Goliath said "I know it's hard, Brooklyn, but your heart will eventually heal in time. For now you still have your clan around you lending you friendship and support always. You are not alone."

For a couple of seconds there Brooklyn was in deep thought. When it seemed like he wasn't going to concede to Goliath's reasoning the smallest of smiles appeared on his face as he nodded.

Inside of the castle everyone else was already gathered in the main hall. Each was as confused as the other having no idea at all of the reason why they'd been summoned so early in the night.

Confronting David and Fox, Hudson asked "Do you have a hand on what's going on, Xanatos?"

Shrugging, Xanatos said "Neither of us have any idea what's going on, Hudson. Fox and I are just as clueless as the rest of you are."

At that very moment Owen entered with Goliath and Brooklyn in toe. The second he spotted his parents Alexander squealed reaching out to them. In response his mother took him into her arms.

"Good you're all here," said Owen.

"You better have a good explanation for having us all here," said Broadway, agitated. "Some of us had plans."

"Broadway," whispered Angela, reprimanding him.

"I promise you this won't take long," assured Owen. "It's just following events of recent days I have obtained something that might…life your spirits."

Wrong choice of words.

The variety of emotions from the clan were mixed with anger and irritation. Even Xanatos and Fox were exhibiting shock at what they saw was Owen's lack of sensitivity.

"You've got some nerve," snarled Lexington, eyes glowing, "throwing something like this after everything that's happened.

"Oh, but I do," said Owen, slyly, backing away until he reached a tapestry hanging on a nearby wall, "and before you jump to conclusions you may want to see what I have hidden here for you." Before any of them could respond Owen quickly pulled away the tapestry revealing the alcove concealed there along with what was inside, me.

The majority of the alcove was darkened temporarily in shadow so many of them weren't quick to figure out what Owen's big surprise wise. My heart was pounding in my chest nerves all over the place trying desperately hard not to think of the possibility of rejection, but now, finally, the moment was here. So after a deep somewhat calming breath I stepped into the light for all to see.

There were gasps all around as the clan and the Xanatos family stood there dumbfounded hardly believing the fact their very eyes were telling them a new gargoyle entered their sight. Since barely any of them had set eyes on a new gargoyle face for so long. Let alone that this brand new gargoyle was obviously a girl, but what wasn't instant was the identity of this mysterious female. That all changed the moment she, I spoke.

I only had eyes for my beloved. "Hello, Brooklyn," I breathed.

The second he heard my voice he froze eyes widened in recognition though not truly absorbing everything. "Sata," breathed Brooklyn, tentatively taking a shaky step forward.

I nodded tears pooling in my eyes, but refusing to fall a happy smile on my face. "It's me," I said.

"No," said Brooklyn, shaking his head in denial, but, also moving closer, "it's impossible. I saw your body in the morgue you were dead."

"I thought so too," I said, stretching a hand towards him, but continuing to slowly move closer, "but evidently something happened for I'm standing here now."

"It's a miracle," said Othello, amazed at this change of fate like everyone else.

Interceding, Owen said "Oh it was a miracle all right."

All attention besides Brooklyn's and my own returned back to him.

"The reason why Sata is here and alive right now no longer human is basically because of Brooklyn," said Owen.

"Wait a minute hold the phone here," interrupted Broadway. "Brooklyn never said anything last night about bringing Sata back to life and if he did he wouldn't have been so depressed earlier. You can't fake that."

"That's because Brooklyn wasn't aware of what he did. When Brooklyn was in the morgue overlooking her body a tear containing the power of all his love was released. Her body absorbed it and because of the magic residing inside it was somehow strong enough to revive and transform her."

"I've never heard of such a thing before," said Hudson. "Is it even possible."

Nodding, Owen explained "As far as the world knows it is practically impossible to breath life back into the dead, but there have been exceedingly rare cases like this one that have been successful."

"I don't care how this has happened," stated Brooklyn, having finally reached me he wrapped his arms and wings around me while I did the same to him, "I'm just so happy right now. Sata, I never thought I was going to see you again."

"I was so scared," I said, laying my head on his shoulder. "When I felt the last bit of life leave me I was so frightened. I prayed so desperately for it not to occur. Now I see god was watching out for me answering those prayers."

Suddenly the sound of someone clearing their throat caused the two of us to separate our gazes instead looking to the source of the noise remembering we weren't alone.

Owen was looking at us with great satisfaction behind his boring persona and everyone else wore bemusement but pleasure exhibited off of them.

Goliath had been the one to clear his throat drawing our attention. Arms crossed, smiling, he said "I believe you two may want some time alone together. Brooklyn, why don't you take Sata here for a glide. For her first flight over the city I'm sure she'd enjoy the lesson." The implication behind his words wasn't lost on anyone no matter how subtle it was.

Looking at me, Brooklyn asked "Think you're up for it."

Nudging his shoulder playfully, I said "Are you kidding? I was born for it."

Taking my hand Brooklyn lead me over to the nearest window large enough for the two of us to exit together. After pushing it open, Brooklyn said "Don't be afraid. Just spread your wings and let the air currents take you. Have confidence in yourself and you won't fall."

"With you beside me I know I won't," I said, softly, believing him without question.

Without further delay, carrying absolutely no further fear, we leapt from the window and off of the castle. At first feeling myself plunge through the air thousands of feet high was terrifying, but the feeling of Brooklyn's hand in my own steadied me and in seconds I was gliding beside him with ease. Barely a few minutes afterwards the clouds cleared and I was able to see the whole city from our vantage point in the air.

"Amazing," I said, almost practically glowing in wonder at such a beautiful sight, "it's so gorgeous."

"Not as much as you," said Brooklyn.

I quickly averted my eyes from him blushing at the comment. He said "And you'll be seeing it everyday, every night for the rest of our lives. Fate has given us a second chance."

"It'll be filled with hardship I know, but the peace, beauty, serenity, and limitless love will be all we need," I said, pressing against his side, as close as possible in the air. The two of us are sharing a kiss.

"Nothing will come between us again. Our hearts and souls are bonded now until the end of time."
