So a story I've read called for ideas on where Ed should be placed. The majority of the reviews centered on Gryfindor (cliché) or Ravenclaw (because Ed's a protégé), some also suggested Slytherin for Ed's cunning. Every said no Hufflepuff. It just got me thinking. Really, hufflepuff is so vastly underrated, especially when you look at it in this light. So just take a gander at why huffles shouldn't be underestimated.

Reasons Why Ed is a Hufflepuff:

Sorting hats words:

You might belong in Hufflepuff,
Where they are just and loyal,
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true
And unafraid of toil;

Of those four traits, Ed greatly displays three.

Just:

The whole point to Ed's journey is to repay the cost of his brothers body, a cost he feels should not have been collected –Ed views it as his fault.

Wanting Nina's father to be put to justice for what he did, and to capture Nina's murderer.

'Equivalent Exchange' -Everything has a price that needs to be paid

Wanting the homunculi to pay for what they've done

Refusing to use human sacrifice

Revealing a fraud priest who's been conning a people

Stopping Winry from shooting, from becoming a murderer

Stopping the Briggs men from killing off all of the men Kimbley brought with him by snipping them off

Loyal:

Willing to commit a taboo, human transmutation, to bring back his mother

Traveling everywhere and facing untold danger to return his brother 's body

Keeping Roy's money so that the man will find a way to succeed in his plans without becoming a martyr

Keeping his mouth shut even when threatened to protect his loved ones

Never forgetting the little girl he couldn't save (Nina)

Always believing that Ling was still inside Greed

Willing to go up against the Homunculi to protect his loved ones

One of Ed's greatest fears was that Al would hate him for what happened to his body

Sacrificing something great to get his brother's body back

Unafraid of Toil:

"You've got a good pair of legs, get up and use them."

Learning all he can about alchemy, getting a teacher, so he can bring his mother back

Traveling and studying all over the country to find a way to get back his brother's body

Joining the military at age 12 to reach his goal

Getting Automail, and getting through the rehabilitation in about half the time it normally takes

Getting a support beam shove through his stomach, using his 'stone' to semi-heal himself and still tries to go after Kimbley

"We're going to knock that Truth guy onto his butt"

Making himself a target for Scar so that the Homunculi will show up

Willing student of Izumi Curtis (there's no way she'd let anyone slack!)

Face-off against Greed when Al was kidnapped "You gave me just enough time to clear my head…"

The entire Briggs arch (getting to Briggs, working to stop Sloth, figuring out how to save Winry from Kimbley, etc)

The whole promised day thing (going up against the military, the homunculi, and all that other crap to stop Father)

While it's true that patience is not Ed's forte, he can still be patient when the need calls for it.

Patient:

Waiting for Shezka to write out Dr Marco's notes

Translating Dr Marco's notes

Waiting for the opportunity to get Winry out of danger

Waiting for Winry to make adjustments on his Automail

I'm sure there are other instances, I just can't think of any at this time (It's late and I want to go to bed.)
