I Wish She Knew

A Happy sweet Fiyeraba! Yay! Based on the quote:

While walking down the street I heard an old man say, "I've been in love with the same woman for almost 50 years now." I was touched until I heard him say, "I wish she knew."

Hope you like it

I headed out of my hiding place, the old corn exchange and out into The Emerald City once again. My green skin had dulled in its color over the past 80 years, and I was one of the most sought after fugitives of my time.

The thing was though I was supposed to be dead. I was the infamous Wicked Witch Of The West that had been 'melted' by Dorothy.

Now I was just an old woman waiting for the right time to return to society.

I headed out into the bright sunlight and started my daily walk to the bookstore hidden in the shrouds of my old cloak and dress.

While walking down the street I heard an old man say, "I've been in love with the same woman for almost 50 years now."

I was touched until I heard him say, " I wish she knew."

I turned to the old man to say something and I stopped short. I stared at him.

I knew those blue diamond tattoos and I knew those searching blue eyes in a heartbeat. It was Fiyero Tiggular, who had once been my lover all of those years ago. The one I thought had died. The one who was the father of my only child.

Here he was sitting on a bench in the Emerald City fiddling with my old hat that had been given to me by Galinda.

He looked up from the hat to look at me, and I immediately covered my face with my multiple scarves.

"Listen," he said softly, "I'm sorry I just rambled on to you about that. It's just today was her birthday, and the last time I ever saw her was 65 years ago, and then I faked my own death to go into hiding and…. I'm rambling aren't I?"

I nodded, not willing to look into his eyes.

"Maybe she did know," I voiced after a few moments looking at the people walking along the street.

He shook his head, "No, I just up and left her with no explanation, she could never know that I loved her. She wouldn't trust me."

I bit my lip hard, I wanted to tell him who I was, but was it too late for us?

He went on, "I loved her more than my own wife, I loved her more than the world itself. I just wish she knew that."

It was then that I unwrapped the scarves from my face, and turned to face him.

"She knows, and always has."

His jaw dropped, and he stared at me for quite some time.

"Fae?" he asked using my old codename.

"Hello Yero," I said with a small smile.

"But- but you're supposed to be dead!" he stuttered as I sat down on the bench with him.

"So are you," I countered.

"Fae…" he started when I kissed him fiercely to make him just shut up for once.

A while after, he pulled away and we stared into each others eyes. He traced my face with his hand, and I put one of my hands on his.

"I love you Yero," I whispered softly kissing him gently again.

"I love you too Fae."

I motioned back to the corn exchange, "Come back home to me, I miss you. It's too late for our son, but we go way back."

He nodded, "You didn't tell me about him. I had to find out for myself."

"That's the way I work," I said softly, the tears slowly coming.

He kissed me again, and everything felt right just like it used to be.

"All this time, we both thought each other was dead, and yet here we are," he said with a smile.

"I've loved you for 50 years Yero," I said passionately.

"As I you, Fae. I've loved you all of these years."

And with that we both walked back to the corn exchange, the place where we had found a new found love for each other, and something deeper.

It only took us 50 years to find each other again…
