"Oi, Rukia." She heard his call, but barely registered it. There was much too much work to do. Way too much. So much she felt as if her head was going to explode and sheets of paperwork were going to fly out with it.

"Rukia." Another damned statement, but she couldn't focus on that right now. Too much paperwork. The captain was sick and there were only three hours left until the deadline...

"Rukia, seriously? Even for you, this is too much." That same voice, directing another line of words her way, but she didn't pay any mind to it. She had just been promoted, and if she didn't live up to her new responsibilities then it would be murder for her own, and the Kuchiki family's image. Too much work, too much on the line...

"C'mon, are you really gonna blow off your own birthday?" The voice was starting to annoy her. She couldn't focus when that outside factor kept buzzing in the back of her mind, trying to distract her from more important things...

"Rukia!" Paperwork...birthday...what was that again? Who's birthday?...too much...Kuchiki family...honor...birthday...

"You really are insane, crazy woman." And with that, she was torn away from her desk, her chair swiveled around to face a man she couldn't bring herself to fully recognize at the moment. Too much work...deadline...birthday...too much... In the back of her mind, she heard a chuckle.

"Maybe this'll bring you back to reality." And he held something up in front of her, and she looked at it without really seeing what it was. Birthday...paperwork...plushie...too much...bunny...Kuchiki family...chappy...birthday...chappy...chappy...wait, CHAPPY?

And she lunged forward, grabbing the plush toy and simultaneously glomping Renji's guts out.

"ThankyouthankyouTHANKYOU!" she howled, gripping onto him tightly. "It's so adorable! Thank you so much, Renji! I didn't think you remembered!"

"Well, I didn't think you did, either..."

"Thank you!"

"No problem, ya little wierdo," he said teasingly. "Happy Birthday, by the way."
