It's short for Something, Right?
Just something I had in mind and felt like writing because everyone always seem to assume May is short for something :P It's Contestshipping so I hope contestshippers like it! And don't forget to review!
May sat in maths, bored out of her head, but that was nothing new. She was never going to need something as pointless as differentiation so why should she even bother to listen. May was more of an art person, she was expressive in art and felt like she didn't need to stress in that class.
The person that sat next to her was different though. He was smart, good looking and his "followers" never let him forget that. He had brains under that beautiful head of green hair and was using it to concentrate on what the teacher was saying.
May sat there and doodled another nametag in her jotter; it was starting to look like a piece of art work rather than her maths work. On many of the previous pages, she had nametags drawn in different styles: mosaic, lines, calligraphy. Today's theme was cursive.
At some point while she was drawing away, Drew's focus had shifted from his work to May's art. He stared at her beautiful and neat handwriting. May Maple. It was a name he had become acquainted with over the past few years of knowing the girl herself .But at times he did wonder if May was short for something like Mayble or Maya or Mayline.
"Hmm." May said as she took her pencil of her jotter and looked at her latest piece of work. "All done." She smiled, clearly pleased with her work.
Drew looked at the art as she held it up. "May Maple." The name just rolled off his tongue with ease. "May…" he said as if he was thinking.
May immediately felt her mood change from an accomplished one to impatient one. She never did feel like she had the patience to deal with Drew. Every time he spoke to her, he teased her about something. If it wasn't about her lack of manners it would be about her ungracefulness – which May had pointed out, on several occasions, is not a word.
"It's short for something, right?" Drew asked. He looked at May with his emerald like eyes.
May looked at him with her deep, blue, sapphire eyes. "No." she simply replied. She tried not to let him get the better of her this time. She only had a few more minutes of maths and Drew to endure.
"It's short for something like Maybelline, right?" Drew asked, winding her up.
"No" she replied, "It's just May, Andrew."
Drew ignored her, despite his dislike of being called Andrew, and guessed another name. "It's short for Maya?" He asked.
"No, it's just May." She replied between her gritted teeth. He really annoyed her at times.
"What is it actually short for?" Drew asked her.
"It's not short for anything!" May yelled, louder than intended. She drew some attention to them but luckily when she put her head down, the onlookers looked away. "My name's just May, May Maple. Nothing more, nothing less. The way I like it."
"Me too, I like what May means." Drew replied just before the bell went. He packed up his stuff and proceeded to leave the class – and May – behind.
May was a bit confused but mostly caught off guard by his reply. She never did look up what her name means but what Drew said made her a bit curious.
That night when May got home she googled her name.
The name May means beautiful girl.
Not lying about the meaning of the name. I actually googled it and that is what the definition came out as!
Anyway, hope you like it! Review and I will love you forever!
