Maitimo tugged at the collar of his tunic, fresh out of the laundry basket.
By being sure of the fact that he was to be punished greatly, Maitimo was sure that his mother would not mind if he laughed at the incredulity of everything. Of course, it had been a dare, to do such an astounding thing, but as the eldest brother, he was always the one providing constant entertainment, whether or not it be humiliating or amusing for himself. Most of the time, humiliation was the question that laughter answered with. And the laughter usually belonged to the two youngest of the seven sons, the Ambarussa.
"How can you go about Tirion like that?" Nerdanel was saying, her voice raised in disbelief as her expression turned progressively more peeved by the second. "Think of everyone who saw you! Saw all of it! I cannot believe you would - would - engage in such foolishness! Tell me why, Maitimo, why would you do such a thing?"
"The twins were bored," he explained, rather lamely, bowing his head as he tried hard not to flush with embarrassment. "And I was the only one in the room at the time."
Next to him on the couch of shame was Fëanáro, laughing so hard that his shoulders were wracked with unstoppable shaking. His dark grey eyes were so clear, for once, without the brooding that accompanied a sudden smoldering in grey. Maitimo ducked his head down even further. It was worse that even his father had to laugh at him! And one would think that Fëanáro would be the one yelling at him right now, and his mother would be sitting next to the couch, looking amused and shocked at the same time!
As soon as Nerdanel prepared to chide him for his foolishness, laughter came from outside of the house. And then, a shocked voice: "Tyelkormo!"
That was bound to be Macalaurë's voice, appalled.
Maitimo now wanted to smirk as Nerdanel sighed in exasperation.
"Don't tell me Turco went streaking across Tirion as well!"
In response to that obvious rhetorical statement, Maitimo joined in the laughter with Fëanáro, and they patted each other's backs with Nerdanel huffing at the two of them before striding outside of the living room to, presumably, punish Tyelkormo as well.
