Mornings went by with a pretty standard procedure and Tom was sure that Hal liked it that way.

It would start with Tom getting dressed. He would slip on whatever seemed appropriate for the temperature of the day. He could hear Hal in his room, long since started on his daily routine. That didn't bother Tom. Whatever kept the vampire sane, was fine by him. It was nice to have another pair of hands around, in case of another attack on Eve.

After their waking routine, they would care for the baby, until it was time to go to work. Annie would then take Eve and they would leave.

Hal always insisted that they leave a bit early, claiming it was necessary in case they ran into trouble along the way. Tom thought the idea was ridiculous. Before Hal had moved in, he had managed many vampires before the start of his shift and never once was late.

The werewolf never brought it up though, he didn't mind arriving early and being able to just sit and talk with Hal. They would sit at a table, both clad in the ( hideous, in Hal's opinion) uniform and just talk. Some times it was about various customers, the regulars, about Annie and Eve, about the poet and her new 'lover'... sometimes they delved into more personal subjects, like the first time Tom saw George or how he had...felt for Nina. Tom didn't like talking about his father to the vampire though. There was something in him, a small instinct, that wanted to keep that information personal. Hal wouldn't understand why Tom could never blame McNair for killing his birth parents and lying to him his entire life...

Sometimes they talked about nothing, too, just sat there and teased each other. He was getting better at comebacks and Hal would chuckle. Hal had a wonderful smile and even through his OCD tendencies, he was generally good with people, even if it was for a short time.

If a customer became too testy or a delivery boy mumbled a snarky insult, Hal would change, ever so slightly. His lips would be tight and his sentences shorter. The man hated to be talked down to. Tom assumed it was a leftover pet peeve from his days as 'Lord Harry'.

When Tom really thought about it though, Hal rarely got that way with him. Even when the wolf was genuinely angry and throwing insults, Hal would usually come back with something more calming, with a heavy sigh or such, but never made any biting comments, as he well could have.

Perhaps it was the wolf within him that made his taunts meaningless to the ancient vampire. He knew that vampires have long since looked down on werewolves. Just because they were currently allies, didn't mean that Hal had suddenly forgotten centuries of hating the werewolves. Tom was sure that before meeting Leo, Hal had his fair share of killing werewolves.

Tom was sure that was it. But every so often, when someone would insult the boys intelligence, Hal would step in and... guard him? Was that what it was? He wasn't sure...

For now, he was content with how they were and whatever the vampire considered their friendship/alliance/family relationship to be, was fine with Tom. He would just enjoy the company while he had it... and somehow hope it would never turn bad.
