Oz walked through the hall searching for Rachel. He knew she would not leave Toby for too long. He had a feeling about her that he didn't fully understand, a trust that she was there only to help. Walking into the hospital cafeteria he searched through the tables of people, hoping to find her. To his relief he saw her sitting alone at a table in the back of the room. He began to make his way through the room.

Placing her fork down on the nearly empty plate, Rachel turned her head slightly and looked directly at Oz. Drawing in a deep breath, she slowly released the air from her lungs, knowing why he was there.

"Hey," she said as he approached the table.

"Mind if I join you?" he questioned politely.

She waved her hand and nodded slightly, offering him a seat.

"I'm glad I found you," he said with genuine concern as he sat in the chair next to her. "You ok?"

"Yea," she nodded. "I'm sorry, I just couldn't stay."

"No need to apologize,"

"I realized that I hadn't eaten at all today and that I probably should," pausing. "I know they don't trust me. I don't know why you do."

"That's easy, you're like Toby."

"A freak?" shaking her head at herself. She wondered why does she do things like this? Why does she get involved in something that makes little sense or help people she doesn't know?

"No, it's not 'cause of your," he said pausing, "gift. It's because you are genuine. You really do care." He watched her take a long drink of her water. "Right?"

"Yes." She noticed how he was watching intently. "I'll go back in a few minutes. I know you're worried about Toby. I just had to eat. I was starting to get a headache and just feeling off. Know what I mean?"

"Yea, not a problem," Oz paused, "eating sounds good." He realized he hadn't eaten in a while too. "Ya know what, I'll be right back. I'm gonna get something to eat, too."

Rachel watched Oz head to the food court area of the cafeteria. Returning her thoughts to Toby's situation, she knew that when she physically pushed her way through people that they would disappear. She wondered if that is how to get rid of them for good. There had to be a cause for all of this. The tests hadn't shown anything and she didn't think the new ones were going to either. This was something different, something, or someone was causing this.

"Well, looks like they need a better cook. This food is so, normal." Oz said placing his tray of food on the table interrupting her thoughts.

"It's hospital food, what do you expect?"

"Yea, you're right," he paused long enough to shove a fork full of noodles in his mouth. "This isn't too bad."

Rachel stared at her plate, using her fork to move the last of her food around. Her mind was back on Toby. Where would he have gone? She thought to herself.

"Whatcha thinking?" Oz asked between bites.

"I'm just trying to figure out why all this happened. How did this happen to Toby? Why could I hear him? Can anyone else hear him? Am I going crazy?" Exasperated, she dropped the fork on her plate. "I just don't know what to do to help anymore. Am I even helping or making it worse?"

"Rachel," Oz started softly, "you're helping Toby. This isn't your fault, is it?" without allowing a response from her he answered his own question. "No, I don't think so. So why beat yourself up about it?"

"You're right, I'm just so frustrated. I think I found a way for the voices to go away, but I don't know if it's permanent. I have to go back and find him. He got this look on his face like he knew something and ran off. I couldn't find him. Do you know how hard it is to get through a crowd of people that have no idea you're even there?"

"No, but I know you're trying. Sometimes he gets that look," Oz paused, "drives me crazy sometimes." Oz continued eating. Rachel was surprised how fast he ate. She figured it must be an EMT's habit, eat and be ready to run.

Once they finished their lunches, Rachel returned to the cashier and purchased a bottle of water. She felt dehydrated and knew it was just the stress of what she was doing. Without conversation they made their way through the halls of the hospital back to Toby's room.
