Author's Note: I just watched "Lost" for the first time, all six seasons in three weeks. The deep characterizations and the tales of redemption were what interested me most, most particularly the tale of Ben Linus' redemption.

The end of the world has come and gone, and now it's the other side. Not the End of The World, but the end of his world. Every single thing he ever struggled to grasp and hold on to in his life is gone. He helped destroy it, and now he's still left there, in the aftermath of emptiness. He'd meant to die, and he hadn't even got that right. So now what?

Then Hugo says it. "Will you help me?"

For a moment Ben doesn't understand. "I'm sorry?"

Hugo says simply, "I could use someone with, like…experience, for a little while. Would you help me, Ben?"

And then he understands. Because now, after pushing for more than thirty years, after giving everything, after trying to take everything and ending up with nothing, after an entire lifetime of empty striving, the purpose he should have had from the beginning arrives with simple, honest clarity. Just help. Just serve. Just give. Just support. That's all.

Ben says with a simple, honest clarity that he didn't know he had, "I'd be honored."

"Cool," Hugo says.

"Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus, who, though being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God to be something to be desperately seized, but emptied himself, taking the very nature of a servant." Philippians 2:5-7a.
