Rostek Horn had wondered whether or not upping his adopted son Valin's age by five years so anyone who went rooting through the records of anyone related to Nejaa Halcyon would think he wasn't Halcyon's son since he was too old was a bad idea. Now, he no longer wondered. He knew.

It had probably been one of the stupidest ideas he'd ever come up with.

He'd been incredibly proud of his friend and former partner's son when Valin - who insisted on being called Hal - had entered the CorSec Academy and had started setting records at thirteen, less than a month after the Clone Wars had ended. The boy had been a credit to his family, both of them. Since he couldn't have children of his own, Valin would be the one to carry his family's name into the future as he would Nejaa Halcyon's legacy.

Valin had not done anything to bring shame to either family up until now. Not as far as he'd known, at least.

It was now a year after Valin had started his stellar CorSec career five years early, and he wanted to strangle the boy. Valin, at fourteen years old, had come home with a woman whom he had announced was not only his wife, but was pregnant with his child as well. Under normal circumstances, the twenty year-old woman would have been charged with statutory rape but, since he'd altered his adopted son's records, there was not a damn thing he could do about the situation unless he wanted to risk exposing the boy to the Empire.

All he could do right now was plaster a smile on his face, and welcome the woman who would most likely be divorcing his son soon considering how marriages made at such a young age tended to end into his home. Such marriages weren't completely unheard of, but usually they took place in the Outer Rim where they went for that sort of thing, as well as marrying one's cousins. He should be glad that Valin and Nyche weren't related.

His new wife, who was just as unhappy about the situation as he, if not moreso, stiffly offered the young woman who was carrying her first grandchild several years too early for anyone's tastes tea.

He would be having a talk with Hal later, a talk that involved a great deal of yelling and possibly a belt.

Author's Note: According to more than one source, Valin "Hal" Horn was only ten years old when his father left to fight in the Clone Wars, and Corran was born in 18 BBY after Valin had graduated from the Corellian Security Force Academy, making Hal about thirteen when he joined CorSec, and about fourteen when he became a father. Yikes!
