Hi guys its been a long time. Sorry for the wait, I'm hoping to have a chance to finish this story. My writing style has defiantly changed since 2016, so hope you enjoy may go back to revise, but first I really want to finish my first ever fan fic.

Soon other dragons started to appear from the thick clouds. Halla stared in fear as her hands began to shake, there were hundreds of them, and they were completely surrounding the team.

Halla sunk closer to Toothless, watching the other dragons wondering why she didn't use darker leather to camouflage herself against Toothless. 'Cause we never thought we would be in the thicket of a pack of dragon.' Halla thought searching for a hole in the formation, but they were too small to slip past undetected, especially for Scarlet to follow.

Halla watched as hundreds of different dragons seem to be carrying fish and various animals in their talons. 'It looks like they're hauling in their kill.' Halla held her breathe when a Zippleback's eyes land on Halla.

The dragons' bank hard and dive in formation plummeting through the thickening fog and weaving between towering jagged sea stacks. 'Just where in Odin's beard are we?' Halla thought, watching as the base of a massive volcanic caldera, glowing with rivulets of lava. The flock of dragons falls into rank, funneling through a crack and zipping through a winding tunnel. Halla had a bit difficulty maneuvering Toothless tail without exposing herself, but she figured, given the circumstance, she did great.

The tunnel exposed a vast, steamy inner chamber tiered with pocky shelves. Dragons of all breeds lay about, nested in hordes among the chamber. The arriving dragons' fly-in, dropping the fish and game into a central pit, glowing an ominous red and shrouded in mist.

Halla couldn't help but be amazed "What my dad wouldn't give to find this."

Toothless jerks away from the procession, Halla is quickly shifting gears. Toothless lands on a small shadowy shelf to keep in low profile. Shortly after, Scarlet makes her way over hiding deeper behind the rock wall. Halla wasn't sure, but it looked like Ash and Gabriel were awfully close together, it was actually kind of funny if they were not in a dangerous situation right now.

Halla shifted to try to get off the saddle to get a better look, but from the hiss and eye glares of her party, it wasn't a favorite idea. So Halla placed herself back in the saddle, shifting to get closer.

"Move"

"quit pushing."

"I need to see."

A growl and body shake from the red dragon got both boys to quiet down, feeling like scolded children.

"Well, it's satisfying to know that all of our food has been dumped down a hole," Ash growling.

"They're not eating any of it" Gabriel scrunched his eyebrows confused, this type of behavior doesn't make scenes.

"There dragons they don't-"Both boys watched straining themselves to see over Scarlet's hiding spot watching as a last to arrive Gronckle hovered over the pit. The Gronckle seemed exhausted as it flys over the hole, regurgitating something. The humans watched as a little fish fell into the steamy pit. A terrible roar rings out, cutting off anything Ash was going to say. The mountain shakes, and the Gronckles starts to shake as it tried to flee. The other dragons duck down as if knowing something terrible was going to happen.

A gargantuan dragon head juts from the steamy pit, the near size of it causing Halla's heart to stop beating, and she would swear that Toothless' did as well. The dragon snaps its jaws into the air, and like nothing, it swallows the Gronckle whole.

Halla gasps, Gabriel's mouth drops, Ash is stunned into silence. "What in Valhalla is that?" Ash whispers harshly.

The monstrous beast sniffs the air, and something cold seeps into Halla's lungs. The dragon turns its head in their directions, almost like it knew they were there. It leans more towards the ledge, and Halla can feel Toothless' body tense ready to take off. The red beast roars, and several dragons around them take off in fear.

"Alright buddy, we gotta get out of here. NOW!" Toothless takes flight, barely evading the monster's snapping jaws.

Toothless takes flight, barely evading the monster's snapping jaw. Halla could hear Scarlet's roar and feel a burst of heat. Halla couldn't see what had happened as a behemoth dragon lunges for the team, but instead snatches a Zippleback that was trying to flee instead. The Zippleback disappears in the dragon's mouth as Toothless disappears into the winged exodus as thousands of dragons flee the calders in fear. For a moment, Halla breaths hard trying to focus on flying, but also trying to spot Scarlet and the boys.

Halla and Toothless glide into the cove and touch down on the edge of the beach. "Where are they, Toothless?" Halla still hadn't gotten off of Toothless' back. "Maybe we should go back out there." Halla was starting to panic, so frazzled that she almost missed the giant red dragons flying towards her with two bickering boys on it.

"Oh, thank Odin, you're alright," Halla shouts, running over to Scarlet, who lowers her head to nuzzle Halla. Halla grabs tight onto the dragon's face. For some reason, she really felt like she could have lost all three of them. "Thank you for keeping them safe."

Scarlet makes a clicking noise in her throat, and Halla isn't sure what it means, but it relaxes her. Too bad, the quiet moment was ruined by two teenage boys. "Will, you just get off?" "You get off" "Oh, you don't know how to get off a dragon, do you" "shut up like you know how to ride a dragon."

Halla sighed, leaning her head on Scarlet's muzzle. "Really thank you, I would have dropped them in the sea." Halla hears an oomph followed by a laugh.

"Like I was saying, it all makes sense." Ash said, dusting off his clothes," It's like a giant beehive. They're the workers…and that's their queen. It controls them. Let's find your dad." Ash stated already starting to run to the village.

"No, NO!" Halla shouted the dragons leaping in front of the teens, Gabriel grabbing Ash's arm as Halla stepping in front of him. "They'll kill Toothless and Scarlet," Halla shouted, Ash's eye went wide frozen in his spot. "I mean, we have to think this through carefully."

Ash couldn't believe this, "Halla, we just discovered the dragons' nest," Ash said incredulously. "The very thing we've been after since the Viking first sailed here. And you want to keep it a secret?" Ash was right; this girl had lost her mind "To protect your pet dragon? Are you serious?"

"They aren't pets, and yes I do," Halla said, shoulder pulled back eye burning with a firm resolute.

Ash was taken back that all he could say was "okay." A moment passed in silence. "Then what do we do?"

"Just give me until tomorrow." Halla just needed more time; she was sure of it, "I'll figure something out."

"Okay," Ash walks over Halla and pinches her cheek.

"OWW," Halla whined.

"That's for kidnapping me." Halla was going to protest, but Ash stopped, and now instead of pinching her, his hand was cupping her face, thumb rubbing over the area he just pulled. Halla's throat was tight, her face becoming red when Ash leaned over and placed a kiss on her forehead. "That's for everything else."

There was an awkward moment. Halla was aware that Ash took off, leaving her to stand froze red-faced. Toothless hobbles up to Halla, eyeing the girl with an odd expression.

"What are you looking at?" Halla squeaked.

"A tomato," Gabriel grumbled, arms crossed. Scarlet chuckled her whole body shaking, her tail nudging Gabriel closer to Halla.

"I am not," Halla whined.

"Dragon rider swoon's so easily." Gabriel teased, trying to ignore the flash of anger trying to come out.

"Stop it's not like that," Halla fussed.

"Sure sure Chiefs daughter first-ever dragon rider together with the best Viking in the village have you seen anything more obvious." Halla was staring at Gabriel for a moment, and Gabriel wondered if he took it to far.

"Are you mad at me?" Halla asked, and Gabriel would deny that his heart skipped a beat when Halla's giant green eyes looked up.

"No, I'm not mad," Gabriel responded, trying not to look at Halla's face.

"I know this wasn't the ride I promised you, but it was nice, right?" Gabriel stared at the Halla, who was fidgeting, looking between the dragons and him as if she expects the dragons to help her. Gabriel laughed; of course, Halla thought he was mad about his less than perfect first dragon ride. "Why are you laughing?" Halla huffed, hitting Gabriel on her chest.

Gabriel laughed again, trying to stop himself. "Halla," Gabrielle says, winded, grabbing Halla's wrist to stop her from hitting him. "Don't ever change."
