There must be something in the water, because here I am, writing a cheesy pokemon special one shot.

This is my first pokemon special story, even though I have dabbled in many other fan bases before this one.

I love franticshipping!

I hope you all enjoy this, it is meant to be fluffy, short, and cute.

Awkward, nervous tension hangs in the air.

Professor Birch plops down onto his own couch, offering the clearly nervous boy sitting across from him a cookie.

Well, boy is the wrong word to describe a full grown 19 year old, but to Birch, this person will always be merely a boy.

"You do know Sapphire isn't here right now, right?" Birch examines the boy, already knowing his true intentions.

"Yes sir," the boy fiddles with his hands, a habit he swears he got rid of years ago.

"So what can I do for you Ruby?"

As if just noticing the cookie dangling in front of his face, Ruby reaches out and accepts it with a small nod.

He takes a nibble and a deep breath, seeming to prepare himself for the worst.

"As you know, Sapphire and I have been dating for 4 years now. I know we are still young, but I wish to ask for her hand in marriage. I can plan a grand wedding, and we will have an amazing family, and she will be hap…"

Birch puts one hand up to stop the now rambling contest master.

"That's fine son… if you pass the test." A smug smirk settles on Birch's face as Ruby's turns from nervous to one of confusion.

"A test?"

"Oh… Sapphire didn't tell you? Everyone who wants to marry her has to take a test, and they have to pass."

Ruby gulps at the evil expression that Birch is now radiating. "How many people have taken this test?"

"Many, and none have ever passed." Birch bores his eyes into Ruby, not giving an inch.

A moment passes, then another…

"Just kidding!" Birch exclaims, any sense of seriousness vanishing a split second.

"Huh?" Ruby's jaw drops at the sudden change.

"Hahaha!" Birch bursts out laughing, "I can't believe you fell for it. When you showed up, I guessed what you were here for, and I decided it would be fun to play around with you a little."

"Oh." Ruby sits back on the couch, letting out a huge sigh of relief, "Well, I really do…"

"Yes" Ruby is interrupted once again.

Ruby looks over at the professor, who is serious once more. "I'm sorry?"

"I said yes, of course you can marry my daughter. I give you my blessing."

"Thank you so much!" Ruby leaps out of his seat, his old personality magically restored.

"We will be so happy together, you won't regret this. The wedding is going to be pink themed, with little balloon pokemon everywhere. We will have pink tulips, and a huge three story pink cake!"

"Don't get ahead of yourself," Birch chuckles at the boy's enthusiasm, "You've still got one thing left to do."

As if on cue, the front door swings open.

"Dad? I'm home!" A voice calls in.

"Well…" Birch looks at his future son-in-law, "go get her."

Yay cutesy, I just had some fun with this haha…
