Pairing: Neville/Luna
Prompt: Forbidden
Not a Man?
Luna Lovegood knew, without a shadow of doubt, that she was being somewhat irrational. There was nothing wrong with dating Neville Longbottom. He was no coward, everyone thought that he was an honest bloke, and he was considerate of the people around him. Neville couldn't be joking.
'He is a good bloke,' Luna hesitantly thought as she dreamily observed him.
"You have any plans on Friday night?" Neville gently, yet confidently repeated.
It was unlikely that Neville would be so cruel. Could she chance it? No.
"Actually, Neville…"Luna's voice trailed off.
"It's alright, don't worry about it…"
He looked a bit downtrodden.
"I can't date men," Luna blurted out.
She hated thinking that she may have hurt him. After all, he is a nice bloke. Why would she want to crush him? A lie would heal his ego.
Neville's eyes widened.
"Pardon me?"
He looked bewildered.
"During the war, I had made an oath that I wouldn't date or snog men," Luna lied.
"Well, umm, you don't swing for the other team?"
"No," she absentmindedly told him.
"What team are you talking about?" She quickly asked him.
Luna felt intrigued.
"Ah, don't worry about it. Really, please do not worry about it! By the way, I'm not... exactly a man and so if you want, we can go on a date."
"Then what are you?" Luna innocently asked him.
"Just a boy that fancies you," he replied with a grin.
She gaped at him.
"You did say that you swore off dating or snogging men but I am no man," he smirked at her.
"That's debatable," Luna whimsically replied.
"Not really," Neville playfully argued.
"Well, we could look up the definition…," Luna absentmindedly replied.
"No, we don't,"he quickly replied.
"Why not?"
"Looking up the definition could delay our possible fun."
"That's true," Luna thoughtfully agreed.
"Why delay experiencing fun?"
"Men are forbidden to me because of a silly oath," Luna reminded him.
"I found a loop hole and its not like you will forfeit your life or magic for breaking your vow, right?"
"Maybe. We aren't positive that you found a loop hole," Luna replied.
She carefully eyed him.
"Let's look the definition up," Neville reluctantly agreed.
'He seems to care. He's a good bloke. He must be,' Luna gleefully thought.
"No need," Luna giggled.
"Why?"
"You seem to be a boy at heart," she loftily told him.
"Are you certain?"
"More positive than a nargle."
"Alright."
He warily eyed her.
Luna beamed at him.
"See you tomorrow?" Neville asked her.
"Yep. Are you certain?" Luna asked him.
"Never been more certain in my life," Neville said with a grin.
