Sam was feeling woozy and lightheaded from the loss of blood. He was drifting in and out of consciousness but could still hear Dean fighting. As much as he wanted to help out his brother, he was too weak.
Dean bashed Ghoul Adam in the head. The only way to kill a ghoul was a headshot and he wanted to make sure that it was dead. Really make sure. After the final blow, Dean heard Sam call weakly to him.
He got up and gasped as he saw the blood draining out of his brother. Sam was lapsing in and out of consciousness and struggling loosely with the ropes around his wrists.
"Hey Sammy, it's okay. I've got it". Dean said as he cut the ropes from Sam.
Dean helped Sam into a sitting position and found some towels to wrap around Sam's wrist.
Sam let out a painful groan as Dean applied pressure to his wounds. His wrists and arms were killing him and so was the hole in his side.
"Let's get you out of here. Do you think you can walk?"
Sam nodded weakly and with the help of his brother, they made their way to the Impala. Dean helped Sam into the car and ran around to the driver's side.
"Put pressure on the wound Sam", Dean instructed.
Sam tried but was too weak. His head rolled to the side and hit the window with a slight thud.
Damnit, Dean couldn't help his brother and drive at the same time. So he got out of the car and helped his brother back into the house. They had a well stocked First Aid kit in the trunk and when he got Sam settled on the couch, Dean ran back to the car to get it.
Running back into the house, Dean grimaced at the 2 dead ghouls he had just killed. Headshots always made a mess, he thought.
"C'mon Sammy, let's get you fixed up". Sam hadn't so much as twitched.
Dean filled a basin he found in the kitchen with water and went about stitching Sam up as best he could. Sam stirred a few times but wasn't really aware of anything.
After sewing the last stitch, Dean let out the breath he didn't know he had been holding. He looked down at Sam and noticed the paleness and dark circles around his brother's eyes.
Letting Sam regain some of his strength, Dean went about cleaning the house of the ghoul remains. He sat on the chair opposite where Sam was laying on the couch. He watched the rise and fall of his brother's chest and blinked wearily.
He had a brother, another brother that he couldn't save. "No, don't think like that Dean. You will save Sam". He wasn't sure what he was saving his baby brother from but he knew no matter what, Sam would come out of the Apocalypse alive.
A slight moan came from the couch and Dean could see that Sam was regaining consciousness.
"Hey Sammy, welcome back."
Sam looked at Dean with unfocussed eyes. He blinked owlishly trying to clear his vision. He tried to speak but he couldn't make his mouth work.
"It's ok", Dean said. "You lost a bit of blood but it's going to be alright."
"Adam was really our brother...we gotta go and help him...
"I know. It's too late Sammy. The ghouls got him. I'm sorry." Dean didn't know why he was sorry. It wasn't like they knew Adam or had any type of connection to him. Still, he was sorry for Sam. He seemed to have taken to their new brother and was pretty keen on educating him on the Winchester way.
There was an incredible sadness in Sam's eyes and he sighed wearily. "Damn Winchester curse", he muttered softly under his breath as his eyes started to close.
"Get some rest Sam. I'll be here."
"Thanks Dean".
"That's what family is for".
