AN: My apologies to everyone who is reading this story and waiting for another chapter, I keep leaving ya'll hanging and I am so sorry! I hit another writer's block which happens a lot with this story because in the first movie it can get pretty complicated and that slows me down a bit. But, I'm here with a new chapter. Hopefully, I'll be able to finish this story soon and start a new fanfiction about Iron Man 2, then a fanfiction about Angel and Steve's relationship, then the Avengers and finally Iron Man 3. I saw it opening weekend and could already see where Angel would be. :) I hope you all enjoy this chapter. I am terribly sorry for keeping you waiting.
Please review! I know that's asking for a lot but I'd love to have some feedback. I have every intention on continuing this and I'd love to know what you guys would like to see or what you think about the fic in general.

Daughter of Iron

Chapter Six: Tony and Angel are losing faith

Angel awoke around two in the afternoon the next day; she was surprised to wake up in her dad's room again. She had every intention of sleeping in her own room, how had she got here? She looked over to the other side of the bed and saw that her dad was not there. It was clear that side of the bed had been slept on though.

Angel smiles at herself, she really did have an awesome dad.

She yawned before getting out of bed, grabbing her glasses off the bedside table and walking back to her own room.

Angel was going to go work out, like she always did every morning.

She got some workout clothes out of her closet.

"JARVIS," she called.

"Yes Miss Stark," JARVIS replied.

"Start my work out music in the gym," she ordered.

"Right away," he assured her.

Angel grabbed a bottle of water before walking down stairs.

"Hey," she said as she walked into the living room.

Travis and Pepper were sitting there, Pepper on her laptop and Travis typing away on a tablet.

Angel walked over and gave them both a quick kiss on the cheek.

"What are you guys doing?" she asked, sitting beside Travis.

Pepper looked up at her with a sigh.

"Watching out stocks drop more and more with each passing second," she said with this look.

The Pepper look, the look that said, 'I think you and your father have lost your minds but I can't say anything about it.'

Angel quickly looked away and down at the tablet in Travis's hand.

"What a shame," she muttered and Pepper rolled her eyes.

"Where's Dad?" She asked before anyone could say anything about what happened yesterday.

"Down in the shop, working on something," Travis said glancing over at her.

"It doesn't look like the Tin Man on steroids does it?" Angel asked worriedly.

What if Tony had started this without her?

Travis and Pepper looked at her as if she had gone insane.

"What?" They asked in unison.

'That's a no,' Angel thought and quickly stood.

"Nothing, Ignore me," she said, quickly standing.

"I'm going to go work out," she called before they could question her anymore.

It's not that she didn't trust, she trusted Travis and Pepper more than anyone, but she really wasn't in the mood to hear how this was dangerous and none of this was a good idea.

oOo

Angel went through her normal workout routine, well, as normal as it could be since she didn't want to go to the beach. She knew if she even attempted to go to the beach the paparazzi would swarm her like damn vultures. It was okay inside though, she liked it just fine. She could hear her music better anyway.

Today one of the Aerosmith classics came on and she was singing at the top of her lungs.

She was in the middle of pretty difficult yoga pose when Travis came in, laughing at the sight of curled like a pretzel singing 'Dream On.'

"Goodness, I can honestly say I think you're the only person who's ever done that," he chuckled and she jumped at his voice, falling on her ass.

Once she hit she laughed but Travis was concerned.

"Oh my God, are you okay?" he asked and she nodded with a bright smile as she stood.

"I'm fine," she assured him with a wave of her hand.

"Mute," she told Jarvis and he shut the music off.

"What brings you down here?" she asked as she walked over to grab a towel and a bottle of water.

"Oh nothing, I was just hoping you'd be willing to tell me why you and your father basically ruined Stark Industries."

Angel frowned for a second. Ruined? No, they hadn't ruined it. It may look like that now but soon it will be as big as ever.

"Don't worry, Travis. You'll get your pay," she said with a grin.

"You know that's not what I'm worried about," he said sternly and she gave a heavy sigh.

"Then what are you worried about? Me? You don't have to worry about me. I'm an heiress, remember? I'm the badass genius version of Paris Hilton," Angel said smugly.

"Oh! I'm like when she was on Supernatural and kicking ass," she added.

"Well, I guess I don't want to be like version of her because she was killing people, and she got her head chopped off-

"Angel! Get out of the Winchester's Impala and focus!" Travis snapped and she sighed, forcing herself to take this all seriously.

"Yes, you're rich and you will most likely stay that way but this is the place you planned to work," he pointed out.

Travis just wanted his younger friend to understand what she was doing. He was afraid she didn't.

"No, it was the place I felt like I was supposed to work, now I can do anything, Travis."

She walked over to him and placed a hand in his, holding it tightly.

"I know what I'm doing here, I promise," she assured him and he rolled his eyes.

"Oh really? What do you plan on doing?"

Angel paused, dropping Travis's hand as she tried to think.

"…I don't know. I'm still going to be CEO."

Travis gave a scoff at that reply.

"Of a ruined company?" he asked.

"It's not ruined. Dad and I are going to do something else," she stressed as she turned away to go get another water bottle.

"What? Make baby-

"If you say baby bottles I'll slap you," she said with a laugh as she turned to look at him with a pointed finger.

Angel frowned because Travis didn't laugh. He was dead set on having a serious discussion. She gave a heavy sigh and dropped her pointed finger.

"We're working on something now. It's going to be big and it's going to help a lot of people out," she explained.

He gave her a confused look.

"And it looks like the tin man on steroids?"

Angel turned away, walking back toward the refrigerator.

"You heard that?" she asked a bit sheepishly.

"Impossible not to hear a comment like that," he replied.

Angel pulled a bottle of water out of the refrigerator and still didn't face him.

"Well, you'll see."

She began taking a big sip of water in hopes Travis wouldn't talk to her about this.

"Can't you just tell me what it is?" he asked and Angel stopped sipping her water.

She turned to look at him with a serious look.

"No. I can't. You'll tell me I'm making a huge mistake. I don't even care if I am. I'm working with my dad. That's all at maters," she insisted.

"Angel-

"No! No. I'm done. Not talking about! La-La-La-La-La-La I can't hear you!" she argued and put her hands over her hears.

"Oh my God! How old are you?" Travis asked.

"As old as I want to be! Bye!" she hurried up the stairs before Travis could ask her anymore question.

oOo

When Angel got back to her room, she showered; blow dried her hair and put on some make up. She was wearing some blue jean shorts, a bright blue t-shirt and a black short sleeved jacket.

She was about to go downstairs to go grab a bite to eat when her dad's voice suddenly filled the room.

"Angel! Do you still have baby hands?"

"What!?" Angel asked with confusion as she walked over to the tablet to make sure she had heard her dad right.

Yup, according to the subtitles that came when her dad called her over the tablet, she had heard him right.

"Do you still have baby hands?" he asked again and she looked down at her hands.

They looked normal to her but Travis had always said she had baby hands.

They really were small, if she put her palm against Travis's it was an embarrassing difference.

"I um…yes?" she said, utterly confused, wondering why this even mattered.

"Good. Get down here I need you." He ordered and then ended the call before Angel could ask why.

Angel laughed, this was normal, that crazy question was normal and she had missed hearing it.

She walked downstairs, and sighed once she saw Pepper watching Mad Money, the host of the show was slamming Stark Industries into the ground. Telling everyone to abandon ship if they had stock there.

"Jesus," she muttered with a sigh as she walked down to the lab.

"What the hell?" she asked herself as he could see her dad through the glass walls.

He was sitting in a chair, only in his pajama pants. He had a glowing something in his hand, it looked like another reactor.

"What are you doing?" she asked as she opened the door.

"Let me see your hands," he said, ignoring her question.

She sighed and held up her hands.

"Wow. Travis wasn't kidding. Baby hands," Tony muttered.

Angel walked over, standing right beside him.

"Shouldn't you have like a heart surgeon or something doing this?" she asked and he shook his head.

"We don't need them. I got you," he explained and Angel's eye brows rose.

"You got me to do what?" she asked and he smirked at her.

Angel just stares at her dad and somehow, just by that smile she knew exactly what he was thinking.

"Oh no. No. No, no, no, I am not putting that inside you," she argued.

"Oh come on! You have the smallest hands and you're the most qualified."

She gaped at him for a long moment, trying to see if her father was being serious.

"What about a doctor?" she asked.

"He wouldn't know what to do! You're going to do this. I trust you."

Angel now looked at his chest and imagined sticking her hands in the hole, there was no telling what it'd feel like inside. She cringed and took a step back.

"Why don't you get Pepper to stick your hands into your chest? She's your assistant."

Tony gave a scoff and gave Angel a look that said, 'Are you kidding me?'

"Pepper? Angel, do you want be to go into cardiac arrest? Pepper's amazing but do you seriously think she could handle this?"

Angel tried to imagine it and she cringed for Pepper. She was sure Pepper could get the job done. Pepper always does but something like this was a bit risky.

"…No," Angel said with a long sigh.

"Exactly, now come here and help me."

"What's wrong with it?" she asked as she stepped closer.

"Nothing, just updating parts really. Why run on a crappy engine when you can run on a brand new one?"

Angel shrugged, agreeing that updating was probably a good idea.

"What exactly do you want me to do?" She asked and she let out a gasp as her father just yanked out the arc reactor.

"Daddy!" She shrieked scornfully. "Jesus, give me a freaking warning before you do that!"

She quickly began pulling her hair with a hair tie she always kept on her wrist.

"Is fixing your hair really necessary at this moment?" Tony snapped back at her, and he really shouldn't be losing his temper during what was basically an open heart surgery.

"Do you want hair inside your body?" She asked as she grabbed the old arc reactor and said it on the table.

When she turned back she looked up to see DUM-E hovering over her dad, watching everything like a concerned little child.

Angel smiled fondly; she had always loved DUM-E. Even when she was little and her dad was busy working on something that she was too little to work one she can remember rolling a ball back and forth with the robot.

"DUM-E, Sweetie, step back some. Making me nervous."

The robot nodded a bit and rolled backwards. Tony rolled his eyes at how his daughter treated the old robot.

"Why do you always talk to him like he's a baby?"

Angel face scrunched up a bit out of anger, she placed her hands on her hips, something she tended to do when she was pissed off.

"Because he is!"

Tony snorted once.

"He's older than you."

"Yeah, but you've always treated him like he's dummy-

"He is! Hence the name!" he argued with a laugh.

Angel gave a huff of annoyance,"You're dumb for making him that way, he's a sweetheart and he just wants to help."

She wondered how they could have this argument about five times a month.

"Christ, focus, what do I need to do?" she asked.

"It's easy, look, do you see the copper wire?"

Angel leaned closer, already smelling something that was like snot and puss.

"Ugh, yeah," she mumbled.

"Okay, do you remember playing operation as a kid?"

Angel nodded but the look on her face made it clear she did not have fond memories of this game.

"I hated that game. That buzzing sound used to scare the crap out of me."

"Well, that's great. This will give you motivation, pull out the copper wire and don't let it touch anything or a loud annoying buzz is going to fill the room."

Angel stared, thinking he was going to laugh and then say something serious…he never did.

"Are you serious?" She huffed.

"Somewhat."

Angel gave a roll of her eyes as she rolled up her sleeves.

"I can't believe I'm doing this."

She took a deep breath as she slowly stuck her hand inside the whole. Immediately she felt this thick watery gunk that felt like spit and a mixture of blood.

"Oh my God, Oh my God, It's disgusting! There's like snot or something in there," she whined as her hand went deeper.

"Oh, Stop it, it's from the device not my body," Tony said, thinking his daughter was just being dramatic.

"Your device is freaking gross and smells like vomit," she complained as she grabbed hold of the wire.

"Yeah it does," Tony said.

"Why do you sound proud!?" Angel asked with confusion and disgust.

"Don't pull out the magnet at the end of it!" He said urgently, ignoring her question.

"What? How am I supposed to avoiding doing that!?"

Angel's heart was racing now, simply out of fear of screwing this up and killing her father. She tried her best to stay calm as she took deep breaths.

"Make sure it's not attached to the copper wire."

Angel groaned and stuck another hand inside the gaping hole, having to go deeper than before to make sure she felt the magnet.

"Oh my God, you owe me. You owe so much. I want something awesome for Christmas."

"Stop being dramatic," he chuckled.

She detached the wire from the magnet and finally began to pull out the copper wire with a sigh of relief.

"This is gross. I have my hands inside you. Do you hear how wrong that is?"

"You're making it sound wrong. Now just put the copper wire up."

Angel was careful not to hit the walls as she pulled it out and put on the table next to the old reactor.

"Now what?" She asked, her breathing quick because this god-awful thing was not over yet.

"Now the fun part."

Angel can't even tell if he's being sarcastic or not which makes her think he's serious.

He handed her the new reactor, "Attach it to the base plate, but please, don't pull an operation buzz on me."

Angel stopped her foot once angrily.

"Shut up! You're making nervous, I haven't yet, don't jinx me."

She slowly started to lower the long wire of the bright shining reactor into the hole.

"Careful, careful, this is the hardest part."

Once Angel felt it attached she almost screamed when her dad let out a loud shot and the machines hooked up to his body gave a slight buzz.

"Daddy!" She scored because now he was calm as cucumber as she twisted the arc reactor in place.

"What?" He asked innocently.

She let out a breath she hadn't realized she was holding in and she glared at him.

"Now was that so hard?" He asked with a glittering light of mischief in his eyes.

"Why did you scream!? Are you alright?"

He smiled at her brightly, "Of course, I feel fine."

She let out shaky breath and hit his arm weakly.

"You okay, baby girl?" He began laughing like an idiot and she wished she could stay angry but hearing him laugh like that made her smile.

"Next time, call Pep. That was just…"Angel couldn't even think of the proper word to describe it.

"It was fun, we bonded," Tony said with a grin as he hopped of the chair.

"Yeah over open heart surgery," Angel shot back.

"Think of it as a trust exercise," her dad added and she rolled her eyes as she cleaned her hands with a towel.

Her eyes wandered to the old arc rector laying on the table. It was still glowing. There was nothing wrong it with it at all. This thing had kept her dad alive. This little thing amazing thing was the reason her father was standing here.

She picked it up carefully and walked over to her dad who was getting on to DUM-E for not cleaning off his desk.

"Dad, what do you want to do with this?" she asked curiously.

"Destroy it. Incinerate it."

Angel's face almost resembled a wounded doe at those words.

"Dad, it's a part of you. Don't you want to keep it? Hang it on the wall, use it as tree topper for Christmas or something?"

She frowned as she watched her dad chuckle and shake his head.

"Angel, I have been called many things. Nostalgic is not one of them."

She let out a laugh at the bold face lie.

"Yeah right, tell that to all of the home videos of us that you've kept, the baby books and all of the stupid awards I got growing up."

It was Tony's turn to look like a wounded animal those harsh words.

"They are not stupid. And that stuff doesn't count. I'm not nostalgic about my things. Just yours," he gave her a kiss on a cheek before turning his back.

"Go get ready. I'll change and we'll head over to go see Rhodey."

Angel sat the reactor back down with a confused look on her face.

"Why? I thought we were going to work on the Mark 1 today," she argued.

He glanced over his shoulder at her, nodding reassuringly.

"We got to go see Rhodey first. Maybe he can back us up on this."

Angel let out a sad sigh and shook her head as she watched her dad clean up his desk with DUM-E.

"He won't do it."

"Why not?" He asked her, not really believing his best friend wouldn't back him up.

"Because it's not a weapon. That's all anyone wants from us. Even Uncle Rhodey."

Angel hated saying that about her uncle but it was the truth. Even her own best fried wouldn't be insane enough to support their new crazy idea.

Tony nodded, still not willing to accept the truth just yet.

"…Maybe you're wrong. We're still going to ask if he wants to be in on it. Never know. He is the perfect man to pilot it."

Angel nodded but she really didn't agree. She still thought herself and Tony were the best people to pilot it. They could. She knew they could. Her gut told her this is what they were meant to do. They could help people with the suit. They could be heroes for once. Angel wanted nothing more than to make up for all the blood her family has spilled.

oOo

Angel walked back upstairs quickly, the arc reactor still in her hand. She had an idea. It may not work, but it was an idea and maybe it would make things between Pepper and her dad move faster.

She can't believe how long they have just openly flirted with each other and neither of them willing to make any sort of move. It was obvious they had feelings for each and Angel was just being a good daughter by playing Aphrodite for a while.

"Pep," she said as she found her and Travis in the kitchen.

"Yes- Oh my God…is that the thing that's in your dad?"

Angel nodded with a bit of giggle at how shocked Pepper was.

"Oh my God, why isn't it in your dad?" Pepper asked with worry.

"You finally killed your dad for the money, Angel? Shame on you! You were supposed to wait so I could cover it up for you then we'd run away together to Europe." Travis joked and Angel let out a laugh.

"Don't' panic. He replaced it with a brand new one. But I need you to do something for me."

Angel had that pleading puppy dog face that No one, not even Pepper Potts, could resist.

"What?" She asked with a smile.

Angel held out the reactor.

"Destroy this. Burn it. Dad just wants it gone."

Angel watched Pepper slowly take it, her face a bit somber.

"He doesn't want to keep it?" she asked, sounding like she couldn't believe it.

"You know Mr. Stark, Out with the old, in with the new." Travis said with a shrug as he took a sip of his coffee.

He winked at Angel because he could already tell what she was up to. They were both shippers on the S.S. Pepperonny.

"Exactly. It really is sad though. It was a part of, kept him alive," Angel said with a sad sigh.

Travis nodded in agreement and stood up from the table to stand behind Pepper, glancing at the reactor with serious concern.

"Kept him alive and brought him back to Angel. This little thing," he tapped it and then let out a dramatic sigh.

"Shame to have something like that thrown away," Angel added.

Without another word, she took Travis's hand and hurried out of the room with him.

As soon as they were out of view she grinned at her best friend.

"Hopefully, that will make her want to get it turned into something for dad."

Travis nodded in agreement and peeked his head back toward the kitchen to make sure Pepper wasn't following them, "Hopefully, I love those two but they really are clueless when it comes to this sort of thing."

Angel ran a hand through her hair and finally remembered what she was supposed to be doing.

"Crap. I forgot I'm supposed to go get my purse so we can go see Rhodey."

She began walking upstairs and Travis followed her with confusion.

"Why? He's working? Don't you guys usually wait until the weekends and go hang out at that bar/restaurant?" Travis asked.

"It's called Ringo's," Angel said corrected, "And yeah, we do, but this is a business trip."

Travis eyebrows raised as he followed Angel into her room.

"Business trip? With Rhodey? Last time I checked, he works on the battlefield and you and you're dad don't supply weapons to the field so what's going on?"

Angel grabbed her purse and walked out of the room with a sigh.

"It's a business thing and if your that curious you can come along."

Travis was extremely curious as to what Angel and her father were up to, so of course he wasn't going to pass up on the chance to find out what was going on.

"I will take that offer, thank you."

Angel loved Travis, but she hated how concerned he was over such a stupid thing.

"Fine, I'm driving."

Travis gave a scoff as they now walked downstairs to the lab.

"Your dad never lets you drive."

"He will today. I haven't drove in forever and he has every right to let me drive."

Travis shook his head with a smile.

"If that what you want to believe, go right ahead."

She typed in the password on the door and saw her dad sitting in one of his cars. She gave a huff as she opened the glass door.

"Dad! Get out of your car! I want to take my Baby, Please!" She begged as she walked toward her Firebird with Travis.

"You never let me drive her! Let me drive her this one time!"

"Don't she'll kill us." Travis muttered and she turned around to smack him with her purse.

"Ow! What the hell?" He asked.

"You're not helping," she hissed and he only chuckled.

Tony got out of the car, he was now wearing some jeans, a t-shirt and leather jacket, "I don't feel like dying today so the answer is no."

"Dad, I have my licenses! I passed the test, a certified person said I can drive why can't you? "

"You were wearing a very short skirt when you passed it," Travis pointed out in a singsong voice and she shot him a glare.

"…That has nothing to do with why I passed."

"Yeah it does," Tony argued. "We'll take your car but I'm driving," he insisted as he took the keys out of her and started walking toward it."

"Shut gun!" Travis called and Angel gave a huff, she wasn't done yet. She wanted to drive and she was determined to.

"Fine. Then I'll just take another car and drive there all by myself. Who knows what could happen if I go alone? I could meet a handsome hitch hiker. Or better yet, I get there before you do and I get to talk to some of the young pilots- because they are so sexy in their uniforms-"

"God, Stop! Fine! You win!" Tony got out of the front seat and groaned as he got out of the car.

"You can drive," he mumbled as he walked over to the passenger's side.

"Move it, Casper," Tony told Travis and he did was laugh.

"Dad, don't make fun of him," Angel said firmly as she got into the car and took the keys from her dad.

"What? He doesn't mind, do you Travis?"

"No, Sir. Honestly, I missed the nicknames."

Tony grinned at this news.

"Good, then buckle up, Sassy Male Assistant."

Travis gave a snort of laughter as Angel gave her dad a slap on the arm.

"Stop it," she insisted before she cranked the car.

"Don't kill us, Angel. Please. I'd be so sad considered I just came back from supposed death."

Angel gave a roll of her eyes as she pulled out of the garage, "I won't. Have some faith."

"My faith tends to fly out of the car when you make your turns," Travis said and Tony laughed in agreement.

"Mine goes when she leaves the driveway."

Angel's jaw dropped, "You guys are just mean."

She thought of the perfect payback as she pulled out of the driveway, driving as dangerous as possible while cautious.

"You guys think I'm a bad drive, well, you haven't seen nothing yet," she put her sunglasses on before she pulled out of the driveway at a very quick speed.

oOo

Angel laughed as they walked into the air base, Travis's hair was a mess and Tony's eyes were still wide.

"What's wrong with you guys?" She asked and Tony gave her a glare.

"You almost killed us," he hissed.

"Oh, I did not," she chuckled.

"You were driving in the wrong line!" Travis hissed in a whisper.

Angel only grinned as they stepped into the area where all the planes and jets were kept.

"Well, now you guys know not to make fun of my driving, because I could be much worse if I really wanted to be."

Tony blinked a few times as he ran his hands through his hair.

"I raised an evil genius," he mumbled and Angel smiled at him innocently.

"Learned from the best, Dad."

Travis tried to fix his hair but he gave up with a sigh because it just wouldn't stay down.

Angel could hear Rhodey giving some sort of speech to the pilots as they entered. He was talking about how unmanned planes would never be better than the ones with a pilot. They would never be able to have a pilot's instinct or judgement.

When they finally reached Rhodey and his group of young pilots, Tony grinned and said, "Colonel, Why not a pilot without the plane?"

Rhodey smiled brightly at Tony and Angel, "Look who fell out of the sky, Tony and Angel Stark."

Angel waved to the pilots and gave a bright smile as her dad shook a few hands.

"Speaking of man or unmanned, you've got to get him about the time he guessed wrong. Spring Break."

Angel chuckled as she remembered the story her dad told her a few years ago.

"What years was it, Angel?" Tony asked.

"You always told me it was Spring Break of 87."

Tony nodded with a grin and pointed at Rhodey, 87, That lovely lady you woke up with, what was his name?"

Even Travis who had heard this story before gave a snort of laughter.

"Think it was Ivan," Angel said and the pilots laughed more.

"Don't do that, guys, not here,' Rhodey warned with a amused smile.

Angel chuckled as she walked closer and gave him a one armed hug, "Still love you, Uncle Rhodey."

He smiled fondly and patted her on the back before she let go, "Just give us a minute guys," Rhodey told the pilots who nodded and began to walk away.

As they left Angel locked eyes with a tall, handsome looking pilot. He had stunning dark brown eyes and a grin that made her smile even more.

Angel's smile fell as he winked, but it wasn't at her. She turned to look beside her to see that he was winking at Travis.

She stared, stunned and opened mouthed and Travis had a slight blush on his cheeks.

"What can I say, you're not the only one guys like," he teased and she finally closed her mouth to smile at Travis.

"Go get his number," she urged and he shyly looked away and shook his head.

"No, I think I'm happy alone at my house with my car and my Star Wars collection."

Angel gave a sigh, she wouldn't pressure Travis but she hated how shy it was when it came to dating.

"I'm going to find you a boyfriend one day," she warned before turning to look at Rhodey and her dad.

"I didn't think I'd see you two walking around so soon," Rhodey told them and Angel smiled softly.

"We're doing better than that," she added.

"Really?" Rhodey asked curiously, as he crossed his arms over his chest.

Tony nodded, "Rhodey, we're working on something big."

It was obvious how serious he was. Even Travis could see it and he hoped that he would finally know what they were working on.

"We? You two are building something together?" Rhodey asked hopefully and Angel nodded.

"We came to talk to you because we want you to be apart of it."

"I came because I want to know what the hell it is that they're building," Travis said and Angel sighed.

Rhodey gave them a bit of a laugh, not out of amusement but haplessness.

"You know what, you two are about to make a lot of people real happy. Because that stunt, at the press conference, that was a dozy."

Travis tried to give Rhodey a warning, by doing the 'cut it out,' motion with his hand but Rhodey just looked at him with confusion.

When Angel turned to look at him he quickly put his hand down and smiled, "Carpel Tunnel, just starching my hand," he lied.

Angel looked back to Rhodey as Tony explained the situation, "...This is not for the Military-We're not-It's just different."

"Like we said at the press conference, we're done with that," she explained firmly.

"So what? You two get attacked in Afghanistan and you're first thought is, Let's become Humanitarians?" Rhodey asked with disbelief.

"Apparently," Travis mumbled and Angel gave a sigh.

No one was even giving them a chance to explain their ideas. Not even their own friends would hear them out on this. They didn't believe they were capable of doing anything but making weapons.

"Rhodey, I need you to listen to me-

"No, what you need. Is time to get your mind right. You too Angel because a few months ago you would have never let your dad do something like this, Angel. I think being alone for so long messed with you head."

Angel rolled her eyes, not being able to hide her anger.

It was wrong. How little faith her uncle had in them. It was wrong had her own best friend thought the exact same way. They were trying to do good for once and everyone was acting like they were the bad guys.

Tony was used to this to hearing this sort of thing, and as disappointed as may be, he just forced a smile.

"I'm serious." Rhodey added firmly.

"I know," Tony mumbled and let the smile fade.

Rhodey started at them both for a moment. As if they were some sort of pair of nut cases who were about to go off. Angel hated it. Hated being treated like they had lost their minds when in fact they had started using them for a change.

"Great seeing you guys," Rhodey said after a long pause.

Angel watched with furrow brows as Rhodey walked off.

"Back attach ya," Tony whispered, almost to himself.

Angel could see the pain in Tony's eyes and it only made her anger worse. If she didn't have so much respect for Rhodey she would have cussed him out.

"Come on, Dad. We don't need him," Angel whispered to him as she took her father's hand and held it firmly as they began leaving the building.

Tony only smiled at her protective nature as they began leaving the building. She was always like this. Somehow, ever since she was little, she could see right through him. She could tell he was upset or angry. She could read him just as easily as Joan could. He doesn't know how it works ('maybe it's some freaking mind reading thing that ran in the Joan's side of the family') but he was mostly grateful for it.

He never had to admit he was upset. He never had to talk about it either. Angel could just sense it and she was nice enough to not even bring it up. She was fine with just pretending like everything was fine because she knew that was how he needed to deal with things.

Travis bit his lip, not knowing if he should voice his opinion or not and out of concern, he did.

"He has a point," Travis said hesitantly as he followed behind the Starks.

"Don't start, Travis," Angel said with a sigh.

She wasn't in the mood to hear the same speech from her own best friend. It'd hurt too much to know that Travis thought she had lost her mind too.

"No, you keep telling me to knock it off but you won't even listen to what I have to say," he argued as they stepped outside.

"I don't have to. Not if it's going to sound anything like what Rhodey just said," she snapped at him over her shoulder.

Tony gave a sigh and grabbed Angel by her arms to make her stop and looked at him, "Angel, baby, stop."

Angel could hear the honest plea in her dad's voice and she looked at him with confusion.

What was wrong with him? She was doing this because she believed in what they were doing. She believed in their work, what was wrong with not wanting to hear the naysayers?

"You need to stop getting so worked up about this, okay? I know that you're angry but you should hear Travis out."

Tony knew how much this meant to Angel and himself. It was their number one priority but he wasn't going to let his daughter get so sucked into what they were doing that she forgot how important her best friend was.

"Why?" Angel asked, a bit agitated.

"Because he's your best friend. His opinion matters rather you like it or not."

She needed to understand that. Tony loved her faith in what they were working on, and her faith in him, but she needed understand that Travis's opinion mattered, even if it wasn't what she wanted to hear.

"But Dad-" she argued, but he cut her off, "No, talk to him. I'll be in the car," he took the keys from and walked toward the car that was parked not too far away.

At first Angel just watched him leave, not really understanding why her dad wanted to listen to this. It was painful enough to hear Rhodey shoot them down like that.

She crossed her arms over her chest after she put her sunglasses back on. Despite the wind it felt pretty hot out here with the beaming sun.

Travis put his hand over his eyebrows so he wouldn't have to squint as he looked at her.

"You going to listen to me now?" he asked her seriously.

"I'm going to listen it doesn't mean I have to agree," she said with a shrug.

"No, it doesn't I just want you to listen to me. I'm you friend, Angel. I'm not just saying this as your assistant, I'm saying all this because I care about you."

Angel gave a huff, a bit out of annoyance because she could tell Travis was telling the truth.

"I know you do," she mumbled.

"Then stop treating me like my opinion is crap because it isn't what you want to hear."

She honestly hadn't meant to make him feel that way. She hadn't meant to be a spoiled brat. She just couldn't help how she acted when people kept doubting her and her dad. No one had any faith in them even though they now had every right to.

Angel sighed and pushed her hair out of her face, "Fine, I'm sorry. That was wrong of me...I'm listening. Spoiled brat heiress is gone."

She really would listen now. Her dad was right, his opinion mattered and it was wrong to just ignore it.

Travis stepped closer to her and put his hand down because a cloud had passed over the sun.

"You're not a spoiled brat. You're just focused on what you're working on and you think it's a good idea so you're getting offended by anyone shooting it down. But Angel, can you blame us for shooting it down because we have no idea what it is?"

Angel bit her lip, sadly, Travis had a point.

"No, I guess not," she mumbled.

"Then just hear me out. I know that you think what you're doing with your dad is a good idea. But are you thinking pass that? Are you thinking about what everyone else is going to think about it?"

She hadn't thought about it. Not really. But what was their to think about? This was going to help people. Everyone should love it.

"No. Not really."

"See?" Travis said, "you need to think about what exactly you're doing here before you make mistake and throw everything away."

Angel frowned, that wasn't what she was doing and she'd give anything to make Travis understand that. She took both of his hands and gave him a soft smile.

"I'm not doing that okay? I know you're worried about me, and I'm glad you care about me so much. But, you just have to trust me. Just a little. Just for a little while. I can't tell you what it is yet, but I promise. It's making me happier and it's going to help a lot of people."

Travis could see the truth in her words but he was still skeptical.

"What's it doing to help you make money?" he demanded and she simply shrugged.

"It's not for that. I'm done with that being our main goal. Our main goal now is helping people," she explained.

Travis slowly pulled his hand away and sighed. That was the problem. That had never been her goal before. Why was it suddenly her goal now?

"Is that what you want to do? Is it really or is this you just following your dad's lead because you'd feel guilty if you didn't?"

Angel scoffed at the idea. She wasn't that easily influenced.

"God, no, Travis. This is what I want to do," she took one of his hands and held it tightly.

"If I didn't want this to happen, it wouldn't be. Just take a leap of faith for me, alright?" she pleaded.

Travis stared into those innocent baby blue eyes for a moment before she gave a sigh of defeat.

"Alright," he answered and Angel smiled brightly at him before she hugged him tightly.

"Thank you," she said after she pecked him on the cheek.

She locked their arms as they began heading toward the car.

"It better be awesome, what you're doing," Travis warned with a grin.

"It's more than awesome," Angel said with a smirk of her own, "think more on the lines of..super awesome."

oOo

Early the next day, after Angel's work out, she walked down stairs to the shop in a pair of some ripped jeans, a black tank top and some pink converses on.
Her hair was already pulled up in a pony tale and she already had her glasses on. She was ready to work.

"Morning, Dad," she said as she pecked him on the cheek.

"Morning," he replied, focused on the computer screen.

"I'm ready to work," she said after she took a sip of her coffee.

"Good, because that's exactly what we're going to do," Tony typed a few things in before he said, "You up, JARVIS?"

"For you, sir, always."

"I want you to start a new project file, indexed as Mark II."

Angel set her coffee down as she looked over her dad's shoulder at the work they had done last time on the Mark I.

"Shall I store this on the Stark Industries central database?"

"Hell no," Angel said and Tony muttered something about watching her mouth.

"We can't put it in the Stark Industries database, Dad. We can't trust any part of the system when there is a rat in it," she explained as Tony dragged the image of the Mark I so it would project in mid air in front of them.

"I know honey, I'm not stupid. We can't put it on their because we don't know who we can trust. JARVIS, until further notice, keep it on our privet server."

"Working on a secret project, are we?"

Angel nodded and took a sip of her coffee as she watched her dad make some adjustment to the Mark I.

"I don't want this ending up in the wrong hands," Tony explained while his eyes focused on the work.

"It won't," Angel assured him. "Maybe we can finally do some good with this."

Later that afternoon, while they were working on the first boot of the Mark II, Angel finally ran into a slight problem with her dad. She should have saw this fight coming. But she had thought they were pass stupid arguments like this.

When they were finished with the the boots, Angel clapped with joy and grinned.

"Alright, now I have to go start working on mine," she said and went to go get the parts when Tony grabbed her by the arm.

"Woah, woah, who said anything about you getting to build your own?" He asked her with confusion.

Angel's eyes went wide, "Dad, you did," she snapped.

"No, I said we would work on this together. I never said anything about you building one of these for yourself," he argued and he let go of her arm.

She put her hands on her hips and it was obvious she was furious, "I'm building one, dad," she said firmly.

He scoffed and shook his head, "No, you're not."

"Yes, I am!" she hadn't been wanting to build this thing for her dad.

When they talked about this the first time she pictured the two of them piloting them. She thought the two of were going to do this together. As a team.
She wasn't a kid anymore. She didn't like helping just for the hell of it anymore.

"Do you think I'm insane Angel? I'm not going to let my daughter get into this, this is going to be dangerous."

Angel huffed at his news, "Then I shouldn't let you be building yours either."

"No, it's different, I'm an adult and I know what I'm doing," Tony argued and Angel ran a hand through her hair out of frustration.

"I'll be a legal adult next year so don't you dare spit that bull crap at me," she hissed.

Tony sighed heavily and turned away from her, "I'm not having this conversion with you, Angel. You could get hurt so you're not building your own."

"But Dad-" she began but Tony interrupted her.

"Angel Joan Stark!" He roared and she shut quickly closed her mouth.

"You're not going to build your own. End of discussion."

Angel, some tears of anger in her eyes, left the shop without another word.

Tony should have seen the red flags that afternoon. He really should have because Angel never gives up on argument that easily. He should have been able to know that his daughter had something up her sleeve.

oOo

Late that night, when she knew her dad was asleep, Angel crept downstairs as quietly as possible. She got into the shop and whispered, "You up, JARVIS?"

JARVIS turned on the lights and said, "For you, Miss, always."

Angel walked over to one of the work desks and began gathering the tools to begin her Mark II.

"Be sure to be quite, JARVIS. We can't wake dad," she said in an urgent whisper.

"I'm assuming you're not going to follow your father's orders."

Angel smiled a bit as she pulled out some more parts, "You assumed right."

"And how exactly do you plane on keeping this from him?"

"You're going to set up my work on my own privet server," she explained as she walked over to the computer and began to make sure the blue prints looked right.

"And if he ever asks if you've been working behind his back?"

"You lie like a dog, JARVIS," she said simply.

"Lying to your father isn't exactly in my programming."

Angel gave a sigh and looked at the computer screen, she knew she couldn't really see JARVIS but whenever she looked at a computer she felt like she was talking to him face-to-face.

"Just tell him I'm not. That's all you have to do. Very simple," she promised him.

"And where do plan on keeping your version of the Mark II?"

Angel grinned, "I'm going to store it. I made a hidden panel in a wall for this very reason. I knew Dad wasn't going to want me to build something some day and I knew I would have to have some place to keep it."

"You do realize your farther doesn't want you making this for your own safely?"

"I do, JARVIS. But Dad needs to stop looking at me like I'm still six years old. I'm practicality an adult and he needs to start treating you like one."

She was an adult, she could make her own decisions.

"Whatever you said, Miss."

Angel sighed as she pulled her up with a hair right.

"Do me a favor and let me know if Dad wakes up."

"Of course."

Angel looked over to DUM-E who sat in the corner, she smiled him.

"DUM-E, let's get to work."

oOo

The next day, Angel sat on the hood of her firebird as she watched her dad attach the gear that would help the Mark II fly. Angel had run this same test last night and it gone fairly well, and she watched with an amused smile.

She knew her dad very well and knowing him, he'd start on a thrust capacity that was way too high.

In typical Stark fashion, they hadn't talked about the fight. Pretended it hadn't happened actually. That was what they had always done and if Tony ever knew he was in the wrong, he'd buy Angel a 'I'm sorry," gift.

There was no gift and Angel wasn't going to argue any further. She was getting what she wanted. Her own Mark II. It just involved staying up till five in the morning, but it was worth it.

"Why the hell are you filming this?" Angel asked.

"Stop cussing," Tony muttered and he doesn't know why he even bothers anymore. Angel would be 18 in a year and had every right say what she pleased.

"I'm filming it for our research, we can watch this back whenever we need to instead of strapping all this back on."

Angel gave a laugh at DUM-E who was on fire safety. That wasn't the best idea. Angel loved the little guy but she wouldn't exactly trust him with a fire extinguisher.

She had let JARVIS do fire safety last night, and his version of fire safety was just turning on the emergency sprinklers that were supposed to be used if the shop ever caught fire.

Thankfully, there were no problems and things went rather swiftly but that was most likely because she had the sense to start on the lowest thrust capacity setting.

"Okay, here we go," Tony said and Angel sat up a bit as she heard the parts roar to life, "Activate hand controls."

Angel glanced over at one of their robots filming this scene and she chuckled and looked back to her dad.

"Going to start off nice and easy at 10% thrust capacity,"

Angel decided she should give her dad some fair warning, "Dad, maybe you should even go lower than that."

Tony shook his head with surely. "No, this is almost too low as it is."

"Don't say I never warned you," Angel whispered to herself.

"Okay, here we go, three…two…one."

Angel doesn't know exactly what she was expecting but it sure wasn't her dad shooting straight up into the air and flipping backwards into the lower part of the ceiling with a load thud.

"Daddy!" she shouted with panic as she jumped off her car.

Tony gave groan which at least confirmed he wasn't dead but as soon as Angel almost reached his side, DUM-E decided this was fire emergency and blasted Tony with the fire extinguisher.

Angel started laughing and she felt terribly guilty for it but how could she not laugh.

"Dad, are you okay?" she asked through a laugh and she saw Tony sit up with a groan.

"I will be, once we send DUM-E to a damn junk yard!"

oOo

Over the next few days, Tony and Angel continued their work. Although, after the incident with the flying and the fire extinguisher…or as Tony called it, "The incident that never happened," They decided to focus on some more important parts of the Mark II.

Once again, Angel had the idea to try to use the repulsor technology. At first Tony didn't think it was a good idea but after she suggested it shooting out of the hand whenever you needed it to, he was sold.

They quickly began working on it, together and sometimes things lasted later than normal and Angel ended up having to sleep for three hours just so she could get up before Tony and work on her own Mark II.

Like Father like Daughter, they both ignored Pepper and Travis when they mentioned some sort of board of directors meeting.

Ugh. Angel hated those things anyway. She usually played games on her phone with her dad until the damn things were over.

"Let Obbie go," she had muttered to Travis over the phone as she worked late one night.

"Come on Angel, your dad won't go. The least you can do is go to this. It's important," he said seriously.

If it was important, that meant I would be extremely boring, she chuckled and shook her head.

"Even a better reason for me not to go," she said, some strain in her voice as she tightened something with her left hand because her right hand was currently locked up.

"Angel- "Travis began and Angel sighed.

"Goodnight, Travis."

She ended the call without another word and continued her work. She assumed that would be the last she heard of the stupid meeting, but the next night as she helped her dad with his repulsor , Pepper came down to the shop with magazine, a box, and a cup of coffee.

"Hey, Pepper," Angel said with a bright smile, it had been a while since she actually got to see her properly.

"Hi, Angel," Pepper said with a soft laugh.

"I've been buzzing you guys, you couldn't hear the intercom?" she asked and Angel gave a chuckle as she made sure a wire was in place for her dad.

"Have you heard us working? We tend to get into arguments over nuts and bolts." Angel explained.

"You need to make sure it's snapped in place dad," she added and he grunted trying to do it himself with his one hand.

"Obadiah is upstairs," Pepper informed them.

Angel squinted at this, it had been a good while since she last seen him. What the hell was with him not hanging around as much as he used to?

"Okay, tell him we'll be right up," Tony mumbled distractedly as he finally got the piece to snap in place.

He finally lifted his arm and pointed his palm straight out in front of him and Angel could already hear the hum of energy.

"I thought you were done making weapons," Pepper said with confusion.

For safety, Angel backed up to the nearest wall, "Oh we are," she assured him.

"This is just a flight stabilizer," Tony answered and then pushed the big red button on the table.

"It's completely harmless," he added coolly and Angel covered her ears at the loud bang that followed as the reupslor shot and sent her dad hurtling backwards.

Angel looked at what he had hit and saw that two hubcaps on one of his cars.

"I didn't expect that," Tony said from the ground.

oOo

After Pepper and Angel helped Tony stand again, both engineers washed up a bit before they walked upstairs. Both of them still looked like they came out of the shop though. Tony had some grease on his shirt while Angel's pony tail had almost fallen completely.

When they walked upstairs, Angel could already hear the soft piano being played by Obadiah. She was glad to see him, but to have to see him after such a long time, that didn't feel right.

Usually Obbie would come by at least once a week. Now his visits were random and out of the blue. She knew her dad hadn't noticed it, no one had really, and that's why she tried not to stress over it. If they hadn't noticed it must not be a big deal.

"How'd it go?" Tony asked, speaking about the board meeting. Angel spotted the Pizza on the table and winced.

"He brought Pizza," she warned as he moved to sit beside Pepper on the couch.

She was typing away on her laptop and Angel gave her a quick hug because it had been a while since she had done so.

Pepper only laughed and gave her a hug back, "When's the last time you saw me?" she asked and Angel pulled away to think.

"Technically, I've seen you every day but I've been so busy working that I haven' the chance to really see you," Angel explained as she grabbed a slice of pizza.

"That bad huh?" Tony asked as he sat down next to Angel and took a piece.

"Just because I brought pizza back from the New York, it doesn't mean anything bad happened," Obadiah mumbled as he continued to .

Angel gave a hum around her pizza that sounded like a sarcastic, "Yeah right."

"It would have gone better if at least one of you would have come!" Obadiah pointed out as he closed the piano and began walking towards them.

Tony gave a hum and shook his head, "You told us to lay low. That's exactly what we've been doing. We lay low while you take care of-

"Oh come on," Obadiah argued with a sigh.

"I meant with the public, the press." He sat down beside Tony and looked at them seriously.

"This was a board of directors meeting."

Angel chuckled as she watched her dad fake his shock, ''Th-This… This was a board of directors meeting?"

Obadiah apparently wasn't in the mood for joking or beating around the bush so after a beat he just came right out with it, "The board is clamming Posttraumatic Stress, they're filling an injunction."

Angel almost choked on a pepperoni at the news and she coughed, "What?" she asked at least three times.

"They want to lock you out." He answered simply. Angel took a sip of a bottle of water and looked at Obadiah seriously.

"What about me? Did they lock me out?" She asked and Obadiah gave her a frown.

"I'm sorry sweetheart but since you're in this with your dad they claim you have Posttraumatic stress too."

Angel's eyes went wide, that was the stupidest idea she had ever heard. Her having PTSD? No. If Angel went through any sort of mental ordeal, it was depression. Not PTSD.

"Have they lost their minds!? I'm perfectly fine," she snapped.

"Is this because the stock dipped 40 points?" Tony asked, "We knew that was going to happen!" he argued.

"Fifty six and a half," Pepper corrected.

"It doesn't matter!" Tony shouted at her and it wasn't because he was angry with her. It may look that way but that was not the case. He was just mad at the board for being so stupid.

" Me, Angel and Obbie own the controlling interest in the company," he argued.

Angel gave a scoff out of anger, "We own the company! For God's sake, it's our name on the side of everything! They don't have the right to lock us out-

"Hey, Liv and Steve Tyler," Obadiah interrupted them and Angel and Tony shut up simply because Obbie's choice of nicknames.

"The board has rights too. They're making the case that you and Angel's new direction isn't in the company's best interest."

Angel rolled her eyes at this news. Now things were just getting idiotic.

"I'm being responsible! That's a new direction… for me," Angel sighed at how that sounded and hated how both Obbie and Pepper grinned like Tony had revealed that this was all about him again. This was him being self centered. That wasn't the case, they didn't understand what Tony was trying to say.

"…for the company. I mean me on the company's behalf-

"No, Dad, you're right." Angel said simply, fully prepared to back her father up.

"You are being responsible for the company and that's a very new thing for you. And if anyone doesn't like that we're both actually starting to take real interest in this company, you can walk out the door."

Angel stood angrily and muttered something about this being perfect in a sarcastic voice while her dad grabbed the pizza box.

They began walking towards the shop, not wanting to stay in this room any longer.

"Tony! Angel! Come back here," Obadiah pleaded.

"We'll be in the shop!" Tony called as they headed toward the stairs. "

"Hey, hey, hey, stop and listen to me the both of you," Obadiah said as he caught Tony by the shoulder and made him hear him out.

"I'm trying to turn this around but you have to give me something, something to pitch them. "

Angel didn't want to pitch those bastards anything. Maybe they were the rats in the system.

"Let me have the engineers analyze that, " Obbie pointed the arc reactor in Tony's chest, "you know they'll drop up some speck-"

"No, No, No, No No." Angel repeatedly firmly over and over the second it left Obadiah's mouth.

No one was going to ever lay a hand on that arc reactor. It was staying in her dad. The tech was staying in their hands were it could be safe and used properly.

"No!" Tony argued over Obadiah, "No! Absolutely, not!"

Once Obdiah finally shut up, Tony's voice calmed, "This one stays, with me."

It was obvious he had enough of this stupid conversation judging by the furious look on his face.

"That's it Obbie, forget it," he said finally and began walking away again when Obadiah snatched the pizza box from him.

"Well this stays with me then," he said, as if they would make them come back like begging dogs.

"Fine," Angel muttered angrily as she already started walking down the stairs.

"Go on, you can have a piece," he told Tony and Angel sighed as she looked over her shoulder at her dad.

"Dad, Don't even-"

It was too late; he went back for two more pieces and quickly followed his daughter's lead.

"Mind if I come down there and see what you two are actually doing?"

Angel chuckled to herself, "Not in a million year," she whispered.

"Goodnight, Obbie!" Tony called as they finally made it back into the safety of their shop.

Angel doesn't get why Obbie is not being more respectable about this. They were a team. That was his words! If they were a team, he should respect they what they were working on was theirs and theirs alone.

She doesn't know why the hell he was being so persistent about this. They had this under control and he needed to trust them. They were Howard Stark's blood after all, they weren't going to build something stupid.

They were going to build something they blew everyone's mind and helped protect people. Angel wasn't going to let anything get in her way.

Not Obbie, Not the stupid board, not Pepper, Not Travis, none of them. They were going through with this . They were going to make positive change rather people liked it or not.

AN: Well, that's another chapter finished! :) I hope you guys enjoyed it. They's probably a few spelling errors and grammar mistakes but that's only because I haven't had time to read over all this yet. I will fix them ASAP though! I promise!
