Disclaimer: If I was in charge of DC, it wouldn't be terrible

"That," Shiho said after a sip of her coffee, "is a terrible idea."

"No it isn't," Shinichi argued. His face twisted in annoyance when Shiho continued to leaf through her fashion magazine. He dropped himself on the couch across from her. "Are you even listening to what I'm saying?"

"I always listen." Shiho said. She smirked; her eyes never left the magazine "Not that I have much of a choice. Someone has to make sure you stay out of trouble."

"This isn't even a case," Shinichi said throwing his hands up in the air in exasperation. He exhaled and dropped them to his sides and slid partway down to the floor.

"That's bad for your back," Shiho commented.

"Bah you and your constant nagging," Shinichi replied with a scowl. "You're definitely the life of this house."

There was the sound of ruffling pages. Shiho set her magazine and glared at him, "Do you want me to bring up America?"

Shinichi shuddered, recalling how terrible the events were "No."

"Then it's probably best you keep your mouth shut," Shiho suggested in a faux sweet-tone.

"Look, I'm just saying this house is always empty since we're so busy," Shinichi said, bringing the conversation back to its start point. Shiho grimaced doing her best not to just storm out of the house.

"Oh really? Maybe it's because only two people live here," Shiho said with a roll of her eyes.

"Yeah. Exactly. And we're always busy with something. You're either lecturing or running tests," Shinichi whined, "So when I don't have a case-"

"Which is as often as you using your head," Shiho snarked.

"You're not here because of all your grading or some bullshit," Shinichi went on.

"If you stopped running into murders I'd have more time to do the required work at the university, and thus I would be home more often."

"Shiho," Shinichi breathed out. He rose from the couch and began pacing around the living room. Shiho watched him make his rounds with mild amusements. This had occurred more often than not. "All I'm suggesting is we-"

"No," she cut in.

"You didn't even let me finish. You never let me finish," Shinichi half-shouted, on the brink of anger

"Because I already know what you're going to say," Shiho said, her tone in contrast was completely flat. But her eyes weren't as void of emotion as her voice, "And what you want is a terrible idea."

"Why?"

"Well if you think over your complaints, I'm pretty sure you'll realize they work against you," Shiho said.

"Shiho," Shinichi said growing more and more agitated, "It's not that big of a deal."

"It is!" Shiho said, her voice now rising in volume. Her stoic exterior was beginning to crack. Her mouth curled into a scowl.

"Why?" Shinichi said folding his arms against his chest. He was stubborn to the end, willing to let the conversation end in flames before conceding anything to her.

"Because," Shiho exhaled, pushing herself to her feet. She had never caved to his ridiculous propositions. It would end in his belief that if he pushed hard enough he'd eventually get what he wanted. Incidentally this was probably what made their dynamic work brilliantly and fail miserably at the same time, "We're not ready."

"We blew up the most dangerous organization in the world. That's got to be something working for us."

"We're also married," Shiho muttered.

"Yeah. See? We're doing great. We can do this."

"We are doing great," Shiho said, placing particular emphasis on the first word, "That doesn't mean it'll the stay the same if we change anything."

"So we'll just throw in a team player that's just as good," Shinichi countered. He looked so convinced. The reasoning was entirely lost to Shiho.

"That's not how it works you idiot," Shiho said resisting the urge to smack him upside the head with the magazine resting on the sofa, "It does not work like a draft. There's no way you can establish any form of quality control."

"Well we're both geniuses so with our efforts combined it'd work out!"

"That's not how averaging works."

"Damnit Shiho, is it too much to ask-"

"Yes!" Shiho said jabbing her finger at Shinichi, "You're asking for a commitment that can end in nothing but a disaster. Your parents left you as soon as you could live by yourself, illegally I might add. Mine worked for a crime syndicate and had me continue the project that set out to grant immortality but turned into pure death contained in a pill."

Shinichi's eyes widened. Stunned. "Wait. Shiho hold up."

"No," Shiho growled, "You want to have a child? Which one of us is going to raise them when we're absent all the time? Neither of us has any knowledge of what it's like to be a good parent."

"Shiho. Just stop."

"You wanted to talk about having kids s so much and now I'm humoring you. So shut up and keep listening since you never think things through."

"I did!" Shinichi protested grabbing her by the shoulders. She was trembling with anger. He met her stormy blue eyes. A smile broke out, disrupting his partner's confusion. He started laughing "Relax. I already took the precautions and went ahead with this so you don't have to worry."

Shiho's eyes narrowed. Her anger hadn't fully subsided "You can't get pregnant."

"I sure can't," Shinichi agreed, "But I can do this."

"What are you talking abou-" There was a familiar but faint sound of their car door opening from the garage. Something that sounded close to footsteps but were much too light began to grow louder. Scratches soon began to follow at the door leading to where their car was. Shiho stared. "You didn't."

Shinichi grinned as he backed away from her until he was at the door and swung it open. A mass of golden brown fur surged forward before letting out a bark and promptly pushed itself against Shiho. The strawberry blonde nearly toppled over, but that didn't stop her from laughing in bewilderment. She looked up at Shinichi, her eyes still sparkling. Shinichi grinned at her triumphantly, "Well?"

"You reminded me why this," she managed to free her right hand from petting the dog to show the golden band sitting on her finger, "was worth it. Thank you."

"I told you I thought this through," Shinichi said. His voice picking up its old arrogant tone.

"But you kept spelling it out like you wanted kids," Shiho said after a moment, her attention still fixated on the dog whose tail wagged furiously the more with the attention it received.

Shinichi's face twisted in disgust, "After dealing with those three brats for all those years? No thanks, I just wanted to get you riled up."

"They're not that bad. You know that," Shiho chided.

"I thought you didn't like kids," Shinichi said with a raised eyebrow, "But whatever. With this we could be a case solving trio. I've been thinking we could train him out to sniff out the criminal. What do you think?"

Shiho stopped petting the dog and stared at Shinichi, her expression blank. "I think we're getting a divorce."

A/N: Shinichi's gotta get some victories sometimes right? What do you mean he gets them in spades in the actual series?
