She's sweeping the front step when he pulls up, hair tied back, shirt hugging her curves as she sweats in the sizzling summer heat.

When did she get so beautiful? Maybe it's always been there. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, they say.

Ellen steps out, smacking her daughter upside the head before handing over a tall glass and taking a seat.

He doesn't move, watching their easy camaraderie, until the scene dissolves back into a pile of rubble.

He isn't sure why he's come; there's nothing here but ghosts.

The Impala kicks up dust as he drives away.
