Hello again, going to try and be more active on the site and such and get further with the story. I will now present the next chapter of the story. Enjoy.
..
…
"I see you've grown quite old, brother." Naruto said in a bit of an amused tone.
"Ma-Ma-Madara? I-is that you?" Despite his condition, he was able to almost yell his name out.
"Yes it is. It has been some time. I never expected to see my brother again after the betrayal."
Izuna tried to sit up but his body refused. He coughed up some more blood before asking. "How are you here brother? I thought you were killed by Hashirama…"
Naruto/Madara walked over next to his brother and sat down next to him. "I was sealed. Somehow, the power over the Kyuubi by the Sharigan not only allowed control of the beast, but inadvertently linked our souls together as long as I controlled the beast." He said before looking up at the ceiling, "When I was defeated, the control over the beast didn't cease. They used the time of my unconsciousness to seal away the Kyuubi into Hashirama's wife. I believe her name was Mito. I was also sealed, as we had a connection through the Sharingan."
"So… you mean… Naruto was a Jinchuriki?" He asked. Madara did a slow nod, in which Izuna sighed. "I can't believe I couldn't sense it."
Madara gave a slow bitter chuckle before standing up. "I've only just recently waken up. Each sealing caused me to go under a period of unconsciousness depending on the strength of the seal." He traced his finger around a carving in the table. "This is by far the most powerful seal I've seen. Even though it may seem simple, the amount of functions and defense is enormous. Chakra repression, chakra filtering, even a function that allows for seal modification incase the warden and the tenant wish to work in unison. There are even those that even I don't recognize."
"Wow…" Izuna simply replied.
"Enough about the seals. I know your time to pass is about up. However, with my decades of isolation, I've developed a way to add new souls into the seal." He said as he looked at his brother. "The process is painless, and it'll allow you to further train your "protégé" more even beyond your natural lifespan. Plus, I think he'd be happy." Madara smirked a bit at the end.
Izuna, without hesitation agreed. "Yeah, I'll do it."
Madara crouched down and placed a hand over Izuna's chest. Multiple handseals flashed through his other hand as a bright blue aura illuminates the room. Slowly, Izuna's body becomes pale and the illumination dies out. Madara gave a small smile before returning control to Naruto. The Sharingan faded from view and he clutched his stomach from the sudden pain.
"Ow… wh-what happened?" he asked as he looked around the room to find Izuna's body on the floor, lifeless. Before he could react, he heard a voice.
"Come into the seal, Naruto."
Before he could ask how, he blacked out yet again as he was drawn into his mindscape.
Naruto's Mindscape…
Next thing he knew, he was floating in a pool of water. Quickly, he stood up and looked around him. He noticed two figures in front of him, both humanoid and bipedal. "Wh-who are you?"
"I think you recognize this voice…"
"Who are you! What are you doing in my mind! Why are you here?" He shouted. In reality, he was afraid. That voice sent shivers down his spine.
"I guess it's time to reveal myself…" A figure shimmered into existence. As soon as he opaque… Naruto shouted.
"Madara!?" Now this was a shocker. One of the strongest shinobi in history… is in his mind. "H-how?"
"Remember how I controlled the Kyuubi during my fight with Hashirama?"
"So-somewhat vaguely…"
"That control over the beast also connected our souls. As long as I controlled the beast, I had a connection to its soul. When I was defeated, the control still remained. Hashirama sealed the Kyuubi into his wife, Mito Uzumaki." Madara sighed before continuing. "With that, the sealing incidentally caused me to be sealed as well, as the connection never managed to sway. After the sealing, the connection between us never managed to degrade."
"Wow… so you've been with Kurami for almost a century… hope you didn't piss her off too much." Naruto chuckled.
"We… started off a bit rough, but slowly came to a truce. It seems as if our souls will be connected until one of us moves on. Might as well not spend an eternity together fighting." Madara chuckled a little before becoming quiet.
"…It seems your brother is dead… how do you feel?" Naruto sighed. "I feel as if he was the father I never had. I just wish… I know he'll still be in my heart… but it still pains me…"
Madara smirked yet again, time for his brother to shock the wits out of him.
"Oh… I never knew you thought of me that way, Naruto." A very familiar voice came up behind him. In a mix of hope and confusion, Naruto did a complete one-eighty and tackled the man.
"H-h-how!?" He shouted.
"You should thank my brother, he discovered a way to add souls to the seal. I was dying anyway so I was like, what the hell."
Naruto stood there flabbergasted. Add souls to the seal? "How is th-that possible? How were you able to do that without being outside the seal?"
"When you went into that fit of rage, it helped loosen the seal, allowing me to take temporary control. I guess you can figure out the rest." Madara explained simply.
"I-I… see." He said. "T-thank you."
"Hmph. Anyways. Now we are a part of you. We will be training you as well. And you better be willing to follow it on your best ability. I will NOT have a weak shinobi under my tutelage." Madara said he paced back and forth. "You will also have access to the Sharingan. Don't let that get to your head. It's a tool, but it will not instantly guarantee victory. Just like your limited access to the Kyuubi's chakra."
Naruto nodded without hesitation. He understood that clearly. He was never one to take something for granted.
"Along with this. I'm quite sure you will get some training from the Akatsuki organization you're joining."
"Joining? How would you know if they're going to let me join. I'm sure they tried killing me at least once.
"I can tell by that young Uchiha's eyes. I believe his name was Itachi."
Naruto stood there for a second. Before sighing. "Okay. When are we going to start?"
"I suggest you get to the meeting point before you worry about training." Madara suggested.
Naruto silently agreed before asking, "How do I get out of here."
Madara sighed. "Just imagine yourself leaving. That should be easy enough."
Naruto nodded before his body began fading away.
Madara turned to Izuna who was still lounging on the ground. "It seems things are going to get interesting." Izuna agreed.. "We will also need to increase his hate towards Konoha. Despite the many years of being sealed, my resentment towards that village hasn't wavered. Based on his memories, this should be easy."
"Yep. Can't wait to see the faces of the traitorous scum when they get their payback with interest."
"We shall see/We shall see/We shall see…"
Back to the real world…
Waking up groggily, he stood up. He picked up Izuna's body and placed it on the bed. He grabbed Izuna's sword before sheathing it on his back. Taking one last look at the house, he bid goodbye before locking the place and headed down the road.
Flashback End
As Naruto walked down the road, his mind was running on overdrive, trying to contemplate these revelations and changes. Just two months ago, he saved his friend turning to Orochimaru and Konoha's enemies. Now here he was, having two of the "traitors" of Konoha in his stomach joining the Akatsuki.
"I suggest you not worry about it. Everything will come out fine."
"I guess. Thanks Izuna." He sighed before speeding his pace. Seconds turned to minutes before he reached the destination. Two figures stood in the middle of the road. Red clouded cloaks fluttering in the night breeze.
"It seems the brat came, Itachi-senpai." The much larger figure spoke, largely in an amused tone.
"Indeed he has." The second figure, which Naruto recognized as Itachi replied. "Let's go." He motioned for Naruto to follow. Naruto complied and walked down a new path. Both in the literal sense and in his life.
Back in Konoha
With Naruto gone, the entirety of Konoha has been largely quiet. Much of Naruto's peers have been the quietest. They have doubled their training, more or less as a momento towards Naruto. With Naruto gone, the law covering Naruto's condition has been repealed. Many of the ninja, bar a few respected Naruto's determination and his tolerance of the village's injustice towards him. A large amount of the general populace still resented him.
However, the most mournful was Sasuke. He felt as if it was all his fault. He felt that he let down Naruto. He felt as if he was Itachi. This thought finally brought upon a epiphany. He was acting no different from Itachi. Itachi wanted to test his power, He wanted to get power. Itachi killed his clan because he wanted to test his power. Sasuke thought of Naruto as a stepping stone and a mere annoyance.
With this, he changed his entire thinking. He wanted power not to kill Itachi, or prove that he was superior. He wanted to rectify his mistake and possibly bring back Naruto. He wanted to protect his bonds, his friends and even if possible, his future family.
Sakura requested to be under Tsunade's tutelage and she ultimately accepted it.
Team Ten requested a more extensive training schedule in which Asuma agreed without hesitation.
Hinata was at first devasted, but turned her hate and sorrow into motivation to train and become more confident. She had already requested to take the next Chunin exams as soon as it came around.
The rest of Team Eight requested special training from their respective families. Along with Hinata, they also requested to take the next exam. Kurenai had no choice but to comply. She was astounded by their enthusiasm and was even more astounded as to how Naruto was the catalyst for the change.
Gai's team has also stepped up their training, more or less because of Lee and Neji's request to prove themselves. Naruto's words struck a chord within Neji and turned Rock Lee's "Flames of Youth" into a "Inferno of Youth." *shivers*
Kakashi took more of his time to train himself and his team, his late habit finally dissolved.
Jiraya hasn't been seen in the village ever since the incident. Many say that he's trying to keep watch on Naruto, but so far he hasn't even detected a trace of Naruto.
With trading cut off from both Wave and Snow/Spring, Konoha's economy took a hit. Prices rose and more families fell into poverty, with some even leaving, hoping to find a more affordable place to live. Overall, Konoha was looking worse already and it was indirectly the result of the banishment. Some of the merchants present on the council were already thinking twice about their little decision.
Meanwhile, the Konoha rookies were having a meeting at a local restaurant. More like releasing their feelings and guilt.
"It seems ever since Naruto left, it has brought us closer." Shikamaru sighed. "His banishment hit us more than we ever perceived. Even with him gone, it has influenced us."
Everyone was silent.
"Naruto was our friend, and above all else, our comrade. He stood up for us when we needed help, when we needed someone to lean on. Yet we all took him for granted. I took him for granted." Sakura said somberly. Sasuke stood up.
"It's all my fault. I tried to leave, I tried to kill Naruto, I tried to use him as a stepping stone." Sasuke said. "Now… now that h-he's gone… I-I ca-can't help but feel guilty for it." Tears fell. "He was my friend, and most of all, family. Yet I abandoned it. J-just like Itachi."
Choji stood up. "He was one of my greatest friends. He didn't care whether or not I was larger than normal, or whether or not I ate a lot. He was never one to be judgmental." Everyone nodded.
"And now, if we ever see him again. We must tell him how we feel. Just to let him know he was never alone, to know that we care, and maybe, just maybe, bring him back to the village." Hinata, the usually shy girl spoke out confidently.
Everyone was surprised, but began clapping. They would work hard. However, Shikamaru and Sasuke both had some conflicting thoughts. 'What if he doesn't want to come back?'
"Cheers!" Everyone brought their drinks together in a cheer.
Along the Road…
"We're about half-way there. We're going to take a rest." Itachi suddenly stated as they reached a river. "If you try to flee, we will hunt you down. Understand?" Naruto nodded. "You're going to come with me to get some wood and berries. Kisame, use the river to fish and gather water."
"Fine..." Kisame grumbled before mumbling incoherent words as he walked away.
"Let's go. I have things to discuss with you." Itachi motioned as he began walking towards the forest. With a tiny bit of hesitation, he heeded the man's words as he following loosely behind him. After a short while, they came across a small forested area. Several berry bushes were scattered in some areas. Moonlight shined and illuminated yesterday's rain. Overall, it was quite an enticing and beautiful sight. "Begin gathering those berries over there, the red ones. Ignore the rest." Itachi explained before grabbing a kunai.
Based on Naruto's deduction, he was going to try and cut a tree down with a kunai? "D-don't you th-think a kunai might not wo-work?" he blurted shyly. He was afraid of getting on his bad side. Itachi merely stared at him as greenish-blue aura surrounded the dagger and extended to the size of a tanto. With a simply slash, the tree began collapsing to the side. "H-how?" Naruto was both confused yet excited. With his already powerful swords, wind chakra would make it a very powerful addition.
"The use of the elemental chakra of wind." He used the kunai to further split the tree into multiple parts. "Now continue your work, we have a limited time-frame to get back to Leader-sama." Without a word, Naruto resumed his foraging. Shortly after, Itachi spoke one word. "Why?"
"W-why what?" Naruto was sweating. Did he pick the wrong berry?
"Why did you join us so willingly?" Itachi said before turning around to meet Naruto's cerulean eyes. "I saw little to no hesitation in your answer."
"What else could I do? If I declined, you would have killed me. Even if you didn't, my master would've died anyway today and I would've had nowhere to go." Naruto explained. "Kiri isn't accepting outsiders due to the aftermath of the war and Iwa, Suna and Kumo still probably have a grudge against me because of the Third War and the invasion. Konoha is a no go." He spat out, "I had no other options, might as well let the red clouds take me."
Itachi stood there for a second. "Out of curiosity, who ordered the decision to have a village-wide vote?" He could already hear the answer, but he had to make sure.
"I truly don't know, but the man was an elder. He had a white bandage over his right eye and what seems to be a crippled arm. I could sense something both in the arm and behind the bandage, but it wasn't clear enough to identify."
"I knew it." Itachi said with a clear distaste in his mouth. "I knew he was suspicious… but now I know."
Naruto, both disturbed by the fact that he knew the old guy and that he was displaying emotion on his face. "You knew him?" Naruto asked.
Itachi took a deep breath. "What I'm about to tell you will probably change everything. What you believed and what you didn't will be shattered."
Naruto looked into his eyes. There was no nervousness, no deceit in his eyes. He nodded his head slowly.
"That man who ordered the vote, was Danzo, the teammate of Sarutobi Hiruzen and one of the village elders, Koharu Utatane. He operates an underground ANBU sector called ROOT which was supposedly disbanded after Hiruzen caught ahold of their training methods. Still, he managed to keep secrecy while remaining an influential member of the council."
"So, what does this have to do with me?" Confused by the information.
"Quiet. Four and a half years ago, the Uchiha and the village's relationship has been strained ever since the Kyuubi attack 13 years ago. Many ninjas noticed that the Uchiha's involvement in protecting the village was minimal and received the least losses." Itachi sighed before a troubled look flashed on his face. "The Uchiha were tired of their treatment by the village. My father was secretly planned a coup d'etat against the village out of spite."
"Wait, you're saying that your clan was trying to take over Konoha? How could they possibly pull that off?"
"That's what I thought. However, because my father believed I was trustworthy, he showed me the plans. He had outside contacts to help distract and possibly injure village ninja and citizens. He had hundreds, if not thousands of explosive tags placed in the village. He was even planning on bribing the entire ANBU division to fight for him, but figured it'd be troublesome if someone leaked the plan." Itachi sat down before motioning for Naruto to do the same. "What he didn't expect however, was me leaking the secrets to the Hokage and elders. With that information, Hiruzen and the elders devised plans to help sway the Uchiha's decision."
"It didn't work." Naruto said.
"Correct. Danzo however believed that it'd be a danger to the village even if we were to rebuild the relationship. He proposed for a complete eradication of the clan."
"S-s-so… the Old Man agreed?" Surprised the man he believed to be a grandfather would accept such a proposal.
"Initially, he disagreed believing in other ways of preventing it. But with two months of no progress, he reluctantly saw the danger and agreed." Itachi said. "He proposed that I be the one to do it."
"But why?" Naruto shouted. "Why would they propose such a thing?"
"I had no love for the clan. No love for my father. Very little for my mother. My loyalty was with the Hokage. However, the only attachment I had was my little brother…"
"Sasuke." Both said in unison.
"Yes. I couldn't kill him. No matter how hard I tried to steel myself. I couldn't. I just couldn't. I begged the council, I begged the Hokage to spare my brother." Itachi adopted a sad look. "They agreed on one condition."
"That is…?"
"Become a missing-nin. They'd be no way to hide my identity without killing every Uchiha. My brother would obviously see me and it would go to naught. I agreed. I had no choice, no alternative."
"So, why did you beat up your brother back in Tanzaku Gai? Why are you hurting him."
Itachi's face morphed into regret. "I… I… I was trying to make him strong. One day, I want him… him to kill me."
"Wha? Why?" He said surprised. "Why not tell him the truth when you believe the time is right?"
"I am going to die soon anyway. I have an illness that is unknown to even the most professional doctors. I have at most, another 4 years to live. By then, Sasuke should be strong enough to kill me. I'll tell him then."
"I've never thought you would have been dealt the short stick like I have." Naruto chuckled hollowly. It was dead.
"I guess so." Itachi stood up. "Let's finish up here and make camp. We leave in an hour." They proceeded to eat and rest before moving out. However, both parties traveled with much less tension. He understood Itachi, and Itachi understood him. They had each other's backs.
A slight rustle in the bushes however distracted them from their thoughts. They continued moving, but all three ninja tensed subconsciously. Someone was watching us. An ambush! The three ninja jumped ahead before turning their backs against eachother to watch all sides. Kisame's Samehada placed in front of him in a defensive position. Itachi grabbed a kunai as he activated his Sharingan and Naruto grabbed his sword on his hip as he prepared for a fight.
"Please come with us Uzumaki Naruto. Our leader wishes to speak with you." A voice said as twelve figures surrounded the group. Blank masks adorned their faces with standard issue ANBU gear.
Itachi gave a look directly at Naruto. "ROOT." Is all he said. Naruto nodded as he prepared for a fight.
"If you do not accept the offer, we will have to use force." The ANBU's voice surfaced again. Itachi looked at both Kisame and Naruto and nodded. Kisame gave a killer grin before the bandages began unraveling from his sword. Itachi coated his kunai with chakra while Naruto drew his sword from the sheathe before wielding it with two hands. Finally, he can test his sword skills.
Itachi scattered into a murder of crows which flew around a couple ANBU's who were trying to release a genjutsu. Unfortunately for them, it was merely a specialized Shunshin. With the finesse of a cat, he slit the throat of an unsuspecting ANBU. With that, chaos took hold. Kisame merely swung his sword towards the enemy who merely dodged, but wasn't expecting a clone to slam its sword in his midsection, scraping it as it tore the flesh into chunks. The real Kisame finished it off by slamming the sword straight down, crushing multiple bones and breaking his neck. One down, eleven to go.
Naruto used the distraction of the rest of the ninja to create five shadow clones, which all charged the ANBU with varying slashes. Albeit sloppy, they held a refined and unpredictable style which the ANBU took for being a failed style, only for a clone to shout from behind him. "Rasengan!" With that, the clone slammed the Rasengan into the back which blew him towards Naruto, who held the sword in the thrusting position which impaled him through the heart. Removing it, he did a high backflip as he dodged several explosive kunai. Creating a shadow clone mid-air, he used it to fling himself towards the offending ANBU at impressive speeds, which the man just barely dodged but didn't notice a clone that sneaked up behind him, which slit his throat quicky before poofing out of existence. Three down, nine to go.
Itachi disappeared, only for the 'Shunshin' to return, which in turn distracted the ANBU. Using it to his advantage, he flared through several handseals before landing on a tiger, in which he whispered, "Katon: Phoenix Fireball Jutsu!" which launched three fireballs the size of an average head at the backs of the ANBU. Bullseye. They hit the head of each of them, instantly killing them as their head exploded from the shoulders. Six down, six to go.
Six remaining. With a look towards each other, they smirked. Naruto's two remaining hidden shadow clones jumped from the trees and slammed their swords straight through the top of the head with outstanding force, impaling the brain and the spine. They were dead within a second. Kisame swung his sword, utilizing it's amazing length to shave two ANBU but they dodged quickly.
Kisame smirked yet again. They forgot about his clone. The clone grabbed both of them by the back of their clothing, in which Kisame threw two kunai straight through the heart. The clone dropped the dead bodies as the clone began shrinking into water.
Itachi looked both ANBU in the eyes. Big mistake on their part. They were instantly captured in a genjutsu via Sharingan. Before they knew it, they were killed as their throats were slit by a clone.
"Those ANBU were flukes! They barely put up a fight!" Kisame laughed. Itachi and Naruto had to agree. Slowly, the ANBU were engulfed in a blue flame as their ANBU tattoo did its job.
"I see you've gotten better Naruto. To think you killed four of them without much hassle means you have improved." Itachi stated. "Still. They were incompetent and you would've been killed as soon as you created those clones if they were truly organized."
Naruto nodded. He needed to get better. He was lucky to have had Itachi and Kisame with him, or else he may have been overwhelmed and captured.
"I see what Danzo was going to accomplish by banishing you. With you officially out of sight by Konoha ninja and the Hokage, he has free reign to take you." Itachi stated. "It seems Danzo is a new enemy. I doubt this will be the last time we see of him or his ROOT." Itachi said before looking forward "Let's go. We're already behind schedule." With that, the trio ventured onward.
Meanwhile…
"It seems they have failed to retrieve the boy Danzo-sama."
"I can see that. What is the reason for their failure?"
"It seems as if the boy was traveling with two others. Both with straw hats and cloaks with red clouds. One had a large sword while the other used crows as a distraction. Both were very skilled."
"Hmm… Was the boy involved in the attack as well?"
"Yes, he has significantly improved, even going as far as taking up a sword. His unpredictable mind is still the same, yet his intelligence has increased."
"Good. I want you to further watch the boy and report his progress to me." The man bowed before leaving with a shunshin. "Red Cloaks. Where have I heard that before. Perhaps Jiraya has some information about them. Either way, I will have the Kyuubi under my possession for the sake of Konoha." He said to himself before walking away.
Back with the trio – Four days later.
Further and further they traveled down that lone road. They encountered simple resistance in the form of some bandits, muggers and low-ranking missing-nin. The further they went, the less resitance they encountered. The skies remained an everlasting overcast, before finally arriving in a full blow downpour.
"Here, take this hat. It'll prevent your clothes from getting wet." Itachi explained as he handed him a hat not unlike theirs. "We'll soon be reaching our destination. Leader-sama already knows we have arrived and we shall meet him soon."
"Where are we?" Naruto's curiosity got the better of him.
"Amegakure."
"Why would Hanzo let the Akatsuki station here?"
"The Hanzo you knew before is now dead. Leader-sama is the leader of Amegakure. Leader-sama killed him to end his regime."
"W-wha? Is your leader that powerful?" He asked shocked.
"That's what we are led to believe. Even we are unknowledgeable about Leader-sama's skill, let alone his real name."
They were interrupted as a white butterfly flew near them. Upon closer inspection, it was made of paper. Naruto stared at the paper creation with awe. He could tell there was chakra inside it. "Origami Jutsu?"
"Excellent observation." The butterfly said, and thousands more began clumping together before forming what seemed to be a blue haired, orange-eyed girl donned in the same cloak as his other two partners. "Leader-sama is expecting you. Follow me. However, I must blindfold you for obvious reasons."
Naruto nodded as she went behind him to place a black blind fold over his eyes. She grabbed his hand as he absently thought about how smooth it seemed. With a slight blush, he realized this is the first time he held a woman's hand before. He shook those thoughts off as he was brought to wherever they were taking him.
A short while after, he felt her remove her hand from his grasp before his blindfold was removed. With that he stood in what seemed to be a waiting area. "Wait here. Leader-sama shall see you shortly." With that she enters the next room. He looked around him to see that Kisame and Itachi He sat down a chair as he waited patiently. 'Hey Madara, how would I activate my Sharnigan. While I'm waiting here, I could learn really quick.'
"Merely channel charka into your eyes and think about activating the Sharingan."
Naruto did just that. Within seconds he could realize that he activated it. Everything he looked at, he could perceive and analyze everything in the room within a second. He moved his hand in front of him. He could see every hair on his skin and it seemed as if it moved slower than it normally would. "Amazing…" he whispered in amazement. Hearing a sound from the other side of the door, he thought about deactivating it. It worked the same as activating it and he stared at Konan as she opened the door for him.
"Leader-sama will now see you." She said as she motioned for him to come in. He did just that as he was led into an office. He could instantly tell this was just like the Kage office in Konoha, but much larger. He looked around the room as he walked in. He could tell the place was well-structured and defensive. It was more like a bunker than a building. Finally done with examining the place, he looked to the person behind the desk only to be shocked. 'His eyes!'
"The Rinnegan…"
"It seems you have arrived, Uzumaki Naruto." The man said deeply. He was definitely intimidating. Those eyes held power. However, something was odd. The chakra wasn't necessarily coming directly from him. It's as if chakra was being transmitted to his body from an outside source. "I have been awaiting you."
"U-uh… H-hello?" He asked nervously. He never really had a chance to learn respectful speech and this is all he could think of.
"Do not be nervous. We mean you no harm, as you came peacefully. However, what I want to ask is why?"
Naruto sighed before looking into the man's eyes. "I have no purpose in life anymore. I lost that purpose in Konoha. Maybe Akatsuki would give me a purpose, a purpose to finally prove myself as a human, as a ninja. More importantly, find new comrades to protect, because true strength comes from the will to protect."
The man's eyes widened slightly, before an almost unnoticeable smile crept unto his face. Both Naruto and Konan noticed it. "Then I welcome you to the Akatsuki, Naruto." He said as he stood up. He extended a hand towards Naruto.
Naruto accepted the hand without hesitation. Maybe, just maybe he'll have a purpose worth keeping.
