The Doctor as a White Lantern

Or how 'Darkest Night' would have been a lot shorter if he had been around

A/N: I own nothing except my daft ideas. I wrote this totally unbeta'd in about fifteen minutes, after reading about an Elseworlds story in which Batman gets a Green Lantern Ring. I considered writing one with the Doctor getting a Green Lantern Ring, but I figured a ring in the hands of the Doctor would either solve every problem in the Universe in two seconds flat, or short circuit.

Sinestro bounded towards the light. The power of the Entity was his and his alone! That fool Jordan had had his chance with Parallax. But another reached it before him. A tall man, who looked human, with spiky brown hair and a determined expression on his face.

Of course, Sinestro knew this man wasn't human. If he hadn't been able to sense the binary cardio-vascular system the being possessed, no mere human would have been followed around by a ring from each Corps save the Orange, and no human would have been avoided so carefully by any Black Lantern Ring nearby. They all seemed to get close to him, then quickly decide that trying to possess him would be a truly terrible idea, and try to find a new target.

"OTH- DOC-. THETA SIGMA OF GALLIFREY, DESTINY AWAITS," the Entity said, enveloping the man. Interestingly, it hadn't been sure what to call him. Ganthet probably went pale.

"Hello, old friend," he said quietly.

The Doctor, dressed in a white version of the uniform of the Corps looked at Black Hand and said, "Hello Nekron. I thought this was your style. I banished you to the Void."

"So you did, Time Lord. And all of your people have come to my realm, at your own hand. It is ironic, that you, Time's Champion, have consignedso many to it," Nekron taunted through his puppet. "Even you can stop this, it is like pushing against fate!"

"Really. I do that about ten times before breakfast. LIVE!" The Doctor bellowed. All possessed by the Black Lantern Rings were freed.

"Now. WILLIAM HAND OF EARTH. LIVE!" The Doctor said, and Nekron was untethered from the mortal realm, and Black Hand vomited up twelve White Rings.

"That's disgusting," he said, screwing up his face, drawing stares. "What? It is! Blech."

"And that was a lot easier than last time," he muttered, then said, "One last thing." Everyone felt the enormous coalescing of power.

"NO! DOCTOR! STOP!" Ganthet called.

"What's he doing?" asked Superman.

"Resurrecting Gallifrey, his home planet. But if he doesn't destroy the Entity and himself, or destabilise the universe in the process, who knows what he'll bring back. The Time War was sealed off for a reason," Ganthet replied worriedly. "Abominations that even Nekron would abhor were born in it, and if even one of them comes backā€¦ Oh why do I bother. He does this all the time"

"GALLIFREY. LIVE!" he said calmly. All was silent for a moment, then was a blinding flash of white light off in the night sky.

"My home lives again," the Doctor said with soft smile as the power of the Entity left him. Then, with a cheerful wave at a worried looking Ganthet, he sauntered off without a backward glance. The massed heroes and villains heard a strange wheezing and blowing sound from around the corner.

Hal Jordan summed it up in one sentence. "Ok, what the hell just happened?"
