A/N: Hey everybody, I know it has been a while since this story got updated but I had a lot happen in the last almost year and instead of explaining it all I will just say it is over now and I can get back to this.
I have been asked a few questions in reviews which I shall now answer:
ceo55 – Harry told Amelia about the prophesy during the meeting with the minister.
rdg2000 – Yes the blood wards are like Amelia's secondary wards but I will not say whether she lives or dies but you do find out soon.
dault3883 – Sorry I will not say who lives or dies but I do have plans for two of those characters in this story.
lyaser53 – I believe so too, that will happen next chapter.
Ubetiburn – Lovely long email, I enjoyed reading it. Abaddon will train Harry but it will be different from the ministry training. Harry goes back to Hogwarts. There were no unauthorized payments, I am going for a misguided Dumbledore and not a semi-evil and thieving Dumbledore. There will be no contracts for Harry.
I shall stop replying to the reviews in the story as it takes up a bit of space and fanfiction can be funny about that so if I get questions I will give a review reply to answer them instead. A big thank you to everyone who has reviewed, it is greatly appreciated and the feedback makes writing so worthwhile. Here is the next chapter, enjoy.
Previously in righteous darkness:
'Shit, blood magic.' Was all she could think before she hit the blood ward and pain shot all over her body.
Amelia screamed out in pain as the blood ward claimed her and the last thing she saw before blacking out was Voldemort laughing as he stepped onto a magic carpet.

Harry sat on the sofa staring at the half full glass cradled in his hands. Drinking the fire whiskey had been a brilliant idea before he had tried it but once he felt it burn its way down his throat he no longer felt the need to drink it and instead spent his time staring at the glass. Susan was sat next to Harry doing exactly the same thing. She had seen his reaction to drinking the fire whiskey and thought it best if she didn't attempt to drink it.
They just sat there side by side thinking of the Azkaban raid and hoping that everyone comes out alright. It had only been 30 minutes since Amelia had left the office but it had felt like hours to the two worried teenagers. It felt like second year all over again where he would sit by Hermione's bed when she was petrified wondering if she would ever recover. He hated it; he hated the waiting and wondering if everyone would be alright. While he did not like constantly being in danger he preferred having his wand out and doing something instead of sitting around waiting.
Harry looked over at Susan and saw her staring into her glass. Her eyes were clouded over slightly and he could see the worry all over her face. He placed his glass back onto the table and dropped his head into his hands. He hated this; he hated just sitting around while other people did everything. At least while in battle he could concentrate on what he was doing. Sitting here all he could do was think and worry and it was driving him crazy. It was while looking at her that he realised that this was much worse for her then it was for him. He had people fighting in Azkaban that he considered friends as well as the last link he had to his father but Susan had her aunt there, her last living relative and he knew that no matter how bad it was for him to be sitting on that sofa waiting it was worse for Susan.
Harry put his hand on her arm and gave it a slight squeeze in what he hoped was a comforting gesture but she either didn't feel it or ignored him as her concentration never left her glass. Harry placed his glass on the table and walked back over to Amelia's desk and sat behind it. He rested his forehead on the desk and just sat there like that. A few minutes later the door to the room opened causing him to look up. What he saw shocked him as Fred and George Weasley as well as Angelina Johnson walked into the office looking a little ruffled up.
"Hey guys, what are you doing here?" Harry asked.
"An auror in the main office told us you were in here so we decided to wait here for them to search Angelina's house and take our statements." Fred replied.
"I meant why are you here at the auror HQ?"
"We were at my house celebrating the Catapults signing me as their new chaser when we got attacked. We took care of the death eaters before coming here to report it. Lee got injured so Alicia took him to St. Mungos. Why are you here?" Angelina replied.
"Your house was attacked?"
"Yeah, four death eaters, I'm guessing they didn't expect resistance. It lasted all of thirty seconds, they blew down the door, and hit Lee with a curse and the rest of us dropped them. One of them is dead and three were left unconscious, I'm guessing the aurors are there now arresting them."
"I thought we got attacked to hold off Amelia from defending Azkaban but there must be more going on if you got attacked as well."
"You got attacked to hold off Amelia?" Fred asked.
"I'm staying with Susan and Amelia for the holiday… long story." Harry said after seeing the twins' confused faces. "I thought you were all in Romania."
"No, mum and dad took Ron and Ginny but we've stay here, we've got a flat above our shop that we live in now."
"Why attack Angelina's house though? I can understand attacking Susan's as her aunt is the head of law enforcement but Angelina's dad runs Tomes and Scrolls in Hogsmeade and Angelina is the new chaser for the Caerphilly Catapults so why attack them? They're purebloods as well." George asked.
"I don't know, perhaps to cause confusion and spread the aurors out so it's easier to attack Azkaban."
George picked up the firewhiskey and took a sniff before drinking some and passing it to Fred who wasted no time in drinking some as well. Everyone sat down on the sofas and Fred, George and Angelina passed the firewhiskey between them while drinking it. Everyone sat in silence, each thinking about the day's events.
"So you're the new chaser for the Catapults?" Harry said breaking the silence.
"Yeah, they approached me after my last game and after some negotiations I signed a three year contract yesterday. The coach is a bit extreme but after years of Wood it's nothing." She replied with a smile.
"I can't wait until you play Puddlemere."
"It's going to be hard going up against Woods but at least I don't have him as a captain any more."
"Yeah Woods was fanatical, although he wasn't the worst captain we've had." Harry laughed.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Angelina asked while losing the smile.
"We only had you as captain for one game but you were a lot more intense then Wood. The twins will back me up on this."
"Hey, leave us out of this." George said.
"Yeah, don't get me involved, you're not dating her." Fred added.
"And what do you mean by that?" She asked while turning to Fred.
Fred sensing the imminent danger took a second to formulate his answer before replying. "I just meant that as I am your boyfriend Harry cannot bring me into a discussion with you to back up his point."
Angelina gave Fred a dangerous glare but he was saved at this point by the door opening again. This time a dishevelled and soot covered Ernie Macmillan walked in with blink stare. Harry noticed his appearance and instantly became concerned. "Ernie, you alright?" Harry asked.
Ernie looked at Harry like he didn't recognise him. Susan looked up from her glass for the first time since she got handed it and walked over to Ernie. "Come on Ern, let's sit down." She whispered soothingly into his ear while guiding him to the sofa.
Fred picked up Harry's glass of firewhiskey and handed it to Ernie. "Here, drink this. It will help with the shock." Fred said while placing Ernie's hands around the glass and helping him lift it to his mouth.
Ernie drank it in one. A little twitch of his lip the only indication that he drank something stronger than water.
"How do you feel now Ernie? What happened?" Harry said as he bent to his knees in front of Ernie.
"They're dead, they're both dead." Ernie replied after a very quiet and tense minute.
"Who are?"
"My dad and brother, both gone. Archie was only six, did his first bit of magic last week, but now… now…" Ernie managed to say before breaking down into tears.
Susan wrapped her arms around Ernie and pulled him into a hug. She cradled his head to her chest and whispered soothing words while he cried.
"George, was there anyone else in the main office reporting an attack when you arrived?" Harry asked.
"No, not that we saw." George replied.
"How are these attacks linked? They can't just be random; bit of a coincidence that everybody attacked is someone I know."
"People you know…" Angelina muttered. "That's it. Harry, we were all in the DA."
"But how would Voldemort know… Malfoy. Malfoy got the list of member's names off the wall for Umbridge; he could have kept it or copied it and given it to Voldemort. If Voldemort believed that everyone on that list was a friend of mine then he wouldn't hesitate to attack them."
Susan looked sharply at Harry before muttering "Hannah."
Harry ran over to Amelia's desk and pulled out a quill and parchment. After a minute writing he ran out of the room closely followed by the twins. As he left the office he ran pass a woman who had tears running down her face as she entered the office and he assumed that she was Ernie's mum. Once he appeared in the main room he called out for whoever was in charge. A short balding man approached Harry.
"Mr. Potter, I am senior auror Jennings, I hope this is important as we are rather busy at the moment." Auror Jennings said.
"It is. I know how busy you are and don't want to waste your time but the attacks that have happened so far are linked. Everybody who was attacked had a family member in my defence group at Hogwarts last year. I believe that there might be more attacks happening right now that we haven't heard about. I believe Voldemort got a list of the names of the members and if he thinks they are close to me then he would want to kill them." Harry said before handing auror Jennings the parchment he wrote out. "This is a list of names of the members of the DA."
Auror Jennings gave Harry a quick look before calling out to a passing auror. "Stanford, take this list of names to the record department. It is suspected that these people may be under attack at this moment, I want all of their home and floo addresses and I want them yesterday."
"Yes sir." The auror Stanford said before taking the list and running out of the office.
Harry turned to face the twins. "George, can you go back to Amelia's office and get Hannah's address from Susan. We can go and make sure she's alright while we wait for the auror to return with everybody else's details."
Fred gave a mock salute and ran back to Amelia's office. "Harry, while I appreciate you informing us about these possible attacks I cannot allow you to come with us." Auror Jennings said just after Fred left.
"With all due respect, you are not going to stop me. These are my friends who may be getting attacked, I will check up on them and if need be help them defend their families. Nothing you do or say is going to stop me. Although you could help ensure my safety by loaning us some armour." Harry replied.
"Ok, it's over there." Jennings said pointing towards a store room.
"George, can you go and get some armour for us and Fred?" Harry said turning to face the remaining twin.
"I'm Fred, you sent George back into Amelia's office."
Yes I asked you to go but Fred went."
"How can you tell? No one can tell us apart, not even our own mother."
"Fred's prettier."
"Don't let Angelina hear you say that."
"Why? She'll agree with me."
George burst out laughing as he walked away to get the armour.
"How many aurors are available to leave immediately?" Harry asked while turning back to auror Jennings.
"All of them. I have four 8 man teams in the building. That gives me 32 aurors. Because of the large number of people on that list of yours I am going to break the teams into eight 4 man teams. I will send one team with you to your friend's house."
Just as Jennings finished saying that Fred returned from Amelia's office. "The address is 11 Pure Sands Drive, Camber and the floo address is sunnysands."
Auror Jennings grabbed four aurors and told them the address to go to as George returned with the armour. Harry and the twins put the armour on as quickly as they could. "Auror Jennings, the person we are going to check on is Hannah Abbot, when the auror comes back with the list of addresses you can strike her off the list." Harry said before running to the floo point and calling out 'sunnysands'.
Harry spun through the floo network and fell out of Hannah fireplace in his usual graceless way and landed flat on his face. This was lucky as a second later a blue coloured curse hit the fireplace where he had just been. Harry rolled to the side and jumped up with wand ready and fired off a reducto curse at the person who had attacked him. It hit the person on his shoulder and severed his wand arm from his body. It was then that Harry got his first look around the room and saw it was one of two death eaters that he had hit.
The death eater screamed out in pain causing the second death eater to turn around from the person he was torturing on the floor and see Harry. Before the death eater or Harry could do anything Fred came out of the floo with his wand ready. All three of them fired curses at the same time. Harry moved to his right to avoid the death eaters curse and the death eater managed to dodge Harry's reducto but in doing so was hit with Fred's stunning spell.
Harry walked over to the death eater with the missing arm and stunned him as George came out the floo. All three headed toward the man the death eaters were torturing to find him unconscious on the floor and looking very pale. "George, stay with him until the aurors arrive and make sure he is alright. Secure the death eaters as well, don't worry if this one bleeds out. Fred and I are going to check upstairs to see if we can find Hannah." Harry said.
George gave Harry a quick nod before casting a few basic diagnostic charms on the unconscious man.
Harry and Fred walked out into the hall to find the stairs as the front door silently swung open. Fred and Harry both raised their wands at it to find the auror quietly creeping in. "We have George in the living room with an injured male who I'm assuming is Mr. Abbot and two stunned death eaters, one of the death eaters is bleeding badly. We don't know how many are left as we've only checked the living room." Harry said quietly to update the aurors.
"Hunt, check the kitchen for any death eaters before assisting George in the living room." The team leader whispered before turning back to Harry and Fred. "You two can join up with us and we'll check the upstairs."
The five of them walked up the stairs to find a hall with five closed doors. The aurors silently went from one to another and pointed to two of the doors that had sound coming from the other side. They opened the doors to the three silent rooms first to find them empty. The head auror pointed to Fred and the two other aurors and indicated that they were to take one door before pointing to himself and Harry before indicating the final door. Once everyone was in position the head auror silently opened the door and both he and Harry could see two death eaters by the bed. The death eaters hadn't seen them and the head auror pointed to the one he was going to take down. Harry nodded and aimed at the other. The head auror counted down from three and they both attacked at the same time with stunners.
The auror tied them with ropes and summoned their wands before going to check on the rest of his team. Harry walked into the room to find Hannah petrified on the bed. Harry cast the counter curse and she jumped up and hugged him.
"Thank you Harry. I don't want to think what they would've done had you not turned up." She said while attempting to hold back tears.
"Don't think about it. A man I assuming is your dad is downstairs injured and barely alive by the looks of it, I'm not sure about your mum but some aurors went into another room up here so she may be in there."
"I think so, they petrified both me and my mum while we were downstairs and bought us both up here while the death eaters downstairs finished off my dad."
"You need to take your dad to St. Mungo's. Sorry Hannah but I cannot stay, we think all DA members are being attacked and I've got to help them. Susan's fine, so is Ernie although he's lost some family, we don't know about the rest. I came here first because Susan was worried about you, lucky I did really."
Harry and Hannah left the room to see Fred walk into the hall from the other room.
"Your mum's fine, just a little shaken up." Fred told Hannah.
She thanked him before going into the room with her mum. "Let's head back to auror HQ, there are still more DA members we need to visit tonight." Harry said before descending the stairs.
They walked back into the living room to see the auror attempting to heal Mr. Abbot while George had his head in the fireplace. "He's in bad shape. The aurors are here clearing the building but they say he cannot be moved at the moment as his condition is too unstable." George said to whoever he was talking to.
"Ok sir, do you know the range of injuries the man has?" Replied a voice from the fireplace.
"He has three fractured ribs, internal bleeding, cruciatus exposure, the bone in his right arm is completely shattered as well as his left leg, the shattered leg bone has cut open a vein and it's bleeding badly. The auror mentioned a few others but I can't think of them."
"Ok sir, keep the floo connection open and I will send a medi-wizard through to stabilize the patient enough for travel."
"Fred, go upstairs and tell the aurors not to let Hannah and her mum down here until the medi-wizard is finished fixing up Mr. Abbot, they don't need to see him like this and will only get in the way. We'll floo back to the auror office once the medi-wizard is here." Harry said to Fred as George pulled his head out of the fireplace.
Harry and George moved themselves to the side of the room, away from the fireplace and the auror currently trying to heal Mr. Abbot. While they waited for the medi-wizard time seemed to slow down for Harry. Fighting the death eaters and securing the house had taken close to fifteen minutes but had felt like two at the time, now that he was doing nothing but waiting it felt like fifteen minutes before the healer came through the floo when in fact it was only two minutes.
The medi-wizard came through the floo as Fred walked back into the room. "Over there." Harry said to the medi-wizard while pointing to Mr. Abbot and the auror with him.
Harry and the twins walked towards the fireplace and flooed back to the auror office. When they got back to the auror office they arrived to a loud and busy office. It was a lot busier then when they had left but it was organized, everybody was doing something and it wasn't the pandemonium that the office was when Harry had stepped through from Bones manor.
Harry walked through the office followed closely by the twins and quickly found auror Jennings. "Auror Jennings. The Abbot home is secure. There is currently a medi-wizard there tending to Mr. Abbots injuries and the aurors are staying there until he is able to be moved, then they will bring the capture death eaters back here. How are things here?" Harry asked.
"We currently have seven of the eight teams in the field and we're keeping one team back in case any team needs a bit of back up. Five of the seven teams have encountered death eaters while two are covering the families while they leave in case death eaters appear." Jennings replied.
"Were any of those homes the Longbottom or Lovegood?"
"No, we have yet to send anyone to them."
"Can you bump them to the top of the list? They were with me in the department of mysteries and I reckon the death eaters will want to pay special attention to them."
"It's logical that they may want payback for that. Ok, next two will be Longbottom manor and the Rookery."
"I want to go with the team to go to the Longbottom's and I want Fred and George to go to get the Lovegoods. I'm going to go and let Susan know that Hannah is alright, can you send one of the twins to get me when a team is back and ready to go to the Longbottom house?"
Harry walked back to Amelia's office as quickly as he could and entered to find it empty except for Susan. Susan was sitting in the seat she had occupied since first entering the office. She was sitting there shaking while sipping the firewhiskey. "Ernie's mum has taken him to St. Mungos. It was like he didn't even acknowledge that we were there." She said while she slowly placed the glass on the coffee table, having to use both hands to hold the glass so that she didn't drop it.
"That can happen to someone who is in shock, he'll be fine after a few potions and some sleep." Harry said as he sat down next to Susan and placed an arm over her shoulders and gave her a comforting hug.
Susan jerked up as she realized who she was talking to and said "Hannah?"
"She and her mother are fine. Her dad is badly injured but was alive when I left. There was a medi-wizard there tending to his wounds and a team of aurors is watching over them until they are able to move him to St. Mungos."
Harry decided not to tell her how bad Mr. Abbot's injuries were or that Hannah had been seconds away from being hurt herself. She didn't need the details; she just needed to know that her friend was safe.
Susan buried her head into Harry's chest as she relaxed and cried with relief. Harry just hugged her, he had faced several death eaters but this was the most scared he had been all night. He didn't know what to do and felt very awkward. Susan was oblivious to this and just held him like her life depended on it. A few minutes later Fred popped his head through the open door and informed Harry that the aurors were back and ready to head of to Neville's house.
"Sorry Susan but I have to go. We saved Hannah but there are still others who need help." Harry said softly to her.
"Of course." She said while letting go of him.
Harry got up and walked to the door. He gave a quick glance back before walking out the door and saw Susan had raised her legs and was hugging them. He left the office and went back to the main office. He walked up to Jennings who was talking with four aurors. The team leader looked at Harry. "Looks like you're with us Mr. Potter. I'm Mal; this is Mark, Jacob and Shaun." He said while pointing at each individual auror. "The floo is cut off so we are having to portkey to the edge of the property. Mark and Jacob will go in through the back while myself, Shaun and you will go down the main path and to the front door."
With that said Mal held out a portkey for Harry to grab hold of. He put a finger on it as Shaun did and all three were whisked away. They landed outside a battered and broken gate. All three gripped their wands and walked along the path towards the house. They saw more signs of battle as they moved up the path towards the house. Burned patches of grass, holes in the grounds and bodies of decapitated death eaters littering the lawn but up ahead the house seemed untouched. It was like the death eaters never even made it to the house.
The ground began to rumble and shake all around them. It wasn't too bad and they were able to stay on their feet but it slowly got worse as the sound of a herd of animals approached. They heard screaming from the left side of the house and all turned to face it with their wands up. They were about to start running toward to screaming as two death eaters ran around the corner. They saw the aurors and ran towards them, they were almost two hundred yards away and the aurors got ready to defend themselves. They were about to cast some long range spells as a huge monster came running around the house after the death eaters.
The beast was completely grey and ran on four legs which were as thick as tree trunks. It stood at fifteen feet tall and was twenty five feet long not including its tail which added an extra five feet. Because of the distance Harry could not make out the smaller features of the beast but it appeared to have two huge tusks coming out of its mouth and facing forwards while it had a horn on its head facing forward and up as well as a load of miniature horns facing backward on its head and down its back.
The beast charged at the death eaters and caught both of them on its right tusk. It slid its tusk along the ground to release the death eaters before raising its front legs and stomping down on them. It then picked up the death eaters in its mouth before shaking them and flinging them across the lawn. Once it was satisfied that they were dead it looked towards Harry and the aurors.
The beast looked at them while growling and shaking one of its legs across the ground before charging towards them. Without thinking the two aurors and Harry began firing their most destructive curses at the beast. Several of the curses missed but the few that hit right on target got absorbed by a golden shield that appeared briefly around the beast. Once the beast was within a hundred feet of them it stopped running, slid across the ground and came to a complete stop. It looked at each of them individually before turning around and running back the way it came.
The three looked at each other slightly confused before resuming their journey towards the house. They were almost at the front door when they saw that there were three death eaters stuck and completely immobile in the ivy surrounding the door. Before they could even reach the door it opened and Neville stood there holding his wand at his side. "Hey Harry, come on in, it is safe to enter now." Neville said while grinning.
"Are they alive?" Harry asked pointing towards to trapped death eaters.
"Yeah they're just paralyzed. My own breed of ivy, I grew it so that it has thorns and each of the thorns has a paralytic poison in it."
"Just like your dad." Mal said while stepping forward. "He was dangerous in his own way as well. He could use his magic to rip tree roots out of the ground and wrap them around whoever he was fighting as well as cause fissures to open up and swallow groups of people before sealing them again so it looked like there were never there."
"Yeah, us Longbottom's have an affinity for Earth based magics." Neville replied as he closed the door after everyone had entered. "My gran has created half a dozen stone beasts to protect the property; she transfigured the rock into shape and animates them whenever we need them."
"We encountered one of those. It had four thick legs, two massive tusks by its mouth and was about thirty feet long. For some strange reason it charged at us but stopped halfway and turned around, it also had a gold shield around it." Harry said.
"Oh, that's Barney. Well, that's what I called him when I was little. Gran says it is a Behemoth, some sort of muggle mythological beast she read about in a muggle book once." Neville replied. "I don't know much about it but gran will be able to explain it more when she gets here, she's just letting the other aurors in through the back door."
"How did you know we were actually aurors?" Mal asked curiously.
"That is a part of our wards." Madam Longbottom replied as she walked into the room followed by Mark and Jacob. "They have an identify friend/foe system built in that scans peoples magical signature. Amelia comes and adds each aurors signature to it when they graduate the academy. She knows how dangerous our defenses are and would like aurors to get through them safely."
"Is that why… Barney… didn't attack us?"
"Yes, and even though Mr. Potter isn't an auror the Behemoth is programmed not to attack Longbottom family members, aurors or children."
"But I am emancipated so I am not considered a child." Harry informed her.
"You may be an adult by law but your magical signature is still that of a child as your core hasn't finished developing yet."
"How did you create Barney and would you be willing to make one for my house?"
"The Behemoth is a marvel isn't it? It is one of my greatest feats of magic. I cannot explain how I made it as it is a family secret and I am sorry Mr. Potter but I cannot make one for you but you need not worry, the last time I was in the Potter manor it had many dangerous defenses and from what I heard your mother added quite a bit to them."
"Can you tell me how it managed to create a shield to block our attacks?" Mal asked.
"It has a ward stone inside it which powers the shield. It was some brilliant thinking from my brother Algie. The ward stone protects the Behemoth but it cannot be sapped because the Behemoth protects the ward stone by having its body surrounding it. It is extremely difficult to destroy because of this." Madam Longbottom replied proudly.
"Are there any death eaters left?"
"No, all of them were killed." Madam Longbottom replied. "What about the ones you dealt with Neville?"
"Seven dead and three alive but completely paralyzed." He replied.
"Well done." She praised him before turning back to the aurors. "You should have seen him. As the death eaters approached his greenhouse Neville levitated a mandrake out of its pot. Its cry shattered all the glass and dropped the death eaters, he then banished a large chunk of devils snare onto them to make sure they weren't getting up."
"The ivy around the front door ensnared three of them and they are paralyzed and pinned to the wall." Neville told his gran.
"Those plants do look hideous but I am glad you convinced me on the benefits of having them there."
Neville blushed slightly at the praise and turned to Harry. "The first of three sub-species of plants that I've created myself. Professor Sprout was so happy when I finished creating them last year. Creating your own sub-species is one of the steps towards a mastery in herbology. The professor thought that even with my natural talent it wouldn't be until 7th year that I would have managed it."
"That's amazing that you managed to create three sub-species so early." Harry replied.
"Professor Sprout is going to add them to her curriculum, we don't know if they'll be any use in potions yet but seeing as they are magical she wants to study and teach about them." Neville said before turning serious. "Was anyone else attacked?"
"We believe the whole DA is being attacked. We've been to a few places and helped. Susan and Hannah are fine although Hannah's dad is in a bad condition. The Weasley twins, Angelina, Alicia and Lee are all safe. Ernie is alive but lost his brother and dad. I don't know about the others. We have seven teams going to all addresses but we don't have enough to cover everyone and some attacks may be over before we get there, like here.
"We were at the home of Dean Thomas before coming here and his family had not been attacked, we moved them out of their home incase death eaters were on their way." Mal added. "We'll take the three alive death eaters with us now. Do you mind if we leave the dead ones for now and return once the attacks are finished to pick them up and identify them?"
"Yes, of course, go help those other families. That is more important than taking care of these dead animals. Neville and I will gather them together so they're in a pile ready for when you return." Madam Longbottom said.
"Is your floo open? We tried flooing earlier but it wasn't connecting."
"Yes, I had it open to Algie during the attack so that we were able to retreat if needed. That's probably why you couldn't connect, it is free now and you can floo out."
"Thank you."
Mal went with Neville to the front door and collected the alive death eaters. Once they were collected the aurors and Harry left through the floo and went back to the auror office. The office was extremely busy and packed now. Some aurors were taking death eaters to holding cells while others were escorting people to waiting rooms. Harry saw a few people he knew. The Patel twins were sitting with Lavender Brown while Anthony Goldstein was being taken into a waiting room. There were a lot more aurors then there were before Harry left for Neville's house, it seemed that some of those sent off to Azkaban had returned which filled Harry with some hope that it had all worked out fine at the prison.
Auror Jennings came over and signaled for an auror to take their captive death eaters to holding cells. "Is everyone alright?" he asked Mal.
"Yes sir. The battle was over by the time we got there, no injuries for us and the Longbottoms are safe. We left the dead death eaters there and told them that we'd be back for them later. The home is away from muggles so I thought it best we get back here and on to another home instead of counting corpse." Mal replied.
"Good call, I'll send someone over to collect them. Are you ready for another house?"
"Yes sir."
"Ok, your next target is the Bell family. The family live on the edge of the village of Mapley. While it has a high number of magical families there are muggles living there so I'm sending Dan's team with you. You will need to put muggle repelling wards up just in case. The portkey is ready. It will take all of you to the front of the property." Jennings said as Dan and his team approached.
Harry touched the portkey with both teams and was whisked away. He landed on his feet and the first thing he noticed was a medium sized cottage up in flames. There were six death eaters spread out around the front of the cottage and one of them saw the aurors land and began firing curses. Within seconds the other death eaters saw what he was doing and noticed the aurors.
The aurors and Harry dived behind a wall for cover and were immediately on the defensive. There was a steady stream of curses coming from the death eaters which didn't give the aurors a chance to return fire. Mal signaled for Dan's team to move along the wall and attack the death eaters from further down. They began to crawl down the wall and once were in position jumped up and attacked. The death eaters changed target and began firing at Dan's team.
"Now." Mal said very calmly and the five of them jumped up and attacked.
Harry saw that two of the death eaters had already been taken knocked down so he aimed at and attacked one of the one still standing. He fired a reductor curse at the death eater which hit him in the chest as a stunner hit him as well. The five of them knocked down three of the death eaters. The final one turned back to attack them but fell as five curses hit in one after the other.
"CLEAR!" Mal called out as Dan's team rose from their position.
Both teams moved towards the house. Several of them checked on the death eaters. "Sir, there's no way we are getting in there." Shaun said while looking at the building.
"Ok, Shaun, I want you to put up a muggle repelling ward. Mark, you tie up the death eaters and portkey them to the auror office to be put into holding cells. The rest of us will attempt to put out this fire."
As Mal said that they heard a scream from inside the house. "There's someone in there." Harry said while running towards the house.
"WAIT HARRY!" Mal yelled as Harry ran to the front door and hit it with a reducto.
The door blew apart and milliseconds later fire shot out of the house as fresh air hit it. Harry was blown off his feet and flew back a few yards. "Jacob, go with Harry to check on the inside and keep him alive." Mal said while beginning to tackle the fire.
Jacob helped Harry up off the floor. "No running ahead. We'll help whoever's left inside but the structural integrity may be compromised. We go slow and careful, understand?" Jacob said to Harry.
"Understood." Harry replied.
The two of them fired aguamenti spells at the door to get rid of the fire around it. They walked into the entrance hall of the house and saw the damage already done. Two of the downstairs rooms were blocked by rubble and fire while a charred corpse lay in another door still burning. The stairs were still standing although it looked like they could collapse at any second.
A Scream was heard and both of them looked up the stairs knowing that the person was up there. "There's too much fire on the stairs for aguamenti. Do you know the aqua erecto charm?" Jacob asked Harry.
"Yes, I learned it during my forth year in case it was needed against the dragon in that bloody tournament." Harry replied.
"Good. I want you to use it on the stairs while I strengthen it as it looks ready to collapse."
Harry cast the aqua erecto charm and a large stream of water flew out of his wand a meter thick. It quickly got rid of the fire and he could hear the stairs groan just before Jacob cast a spell at it. The groaning stopped and Jacob walked forward. "While I won't call it safe, it is safer to go up then it was a second ago." He mentioned to Harry.
They slowly made their way up the stairs and towards to sounds of someone cursing and groaning in pain. They moved forward while putting out as much of the fire as they could. The door ahead of them was open and Harry walked in first to find Katie on the floor with her leg trapped under a wardrobe. She looked up and saw Harry there with Jacob.
"Thank Merlin you're here. When the death eaters shattered my window the glass cut into my leg. I tried crawling out of here but a spell hit the bloody wardrobe causing it to fall on me."
"Was you the one screaming?" Jacob asked.
"Yes. I haven't heard anything from my parents. I tried calling out to them but I've had no reply and it was just the three of us here." Katie replied.
Jacob levitated the wardrobe off Katie while Harry helped her to her feet. The leg was bleeding badly and had a lot of cuts on it with glass sticking out of most of them.
"Can you manage getting her out while I search the rest of the floor for anyone else?" Jacob asked Harry.
"Yeah." He replied before speaking to Katie. "Come on, you'll have to lean on me and use me as a crutch."
Harry helped her hobble out of the bedroom and towards the stairs. "I didn't know you worked with the aurors." She said in a way that was obviously asking why he was as he shouldn't be.
"Long story." Harry replied as the ceiling above them began to groan under stress.
"Harry look out!" Jacob called a tad too late as the ceiling gave way above Harry and dropped.
Harry pushed Katie to the floor and put himself across her as the ceiling dropped on them. Burning rubble fell all around them as a large burning plank of wood fell across Harry's back and arms pinning both of them to the floor.
"Don't move, I'll get this plank off you." Jacob said moving towards Harry and Katie.
"NO! Stay back." Harry called out as he heard the floor crack.
The floor cracked and broke underneath Harry and Katie and they both fell down into the ground floor kitchen. Pieces of wood, plaster and stone fell around and on top of them and the plank that had pinned them to the floor fell and hit Harry on the back a second time. Harry looked up to see fire and black smoke surrounding him and Katie. He was rapidly losing his breath and was having difficulty breathing. He looked down to see Katie already passed out but barely breathing as he lost his fight with consciousness and blacked out.
A/N: Well I think that is a good place to end it. At the moment I have two stories going and was going to update them one at a time but the next chapter of this story is the one I've been looking forward to writing so I will most likely update this before my other story. It is where Abaddon returns and we find out about Horcrux's and I've had a few requests for a Lily/Abaddon flashback so we will also have one of those. So far updates have been few and far between and that is because life just kept getting in the way. I have a lot of 'me' time at the moment so I plan to spend a lot of it writing so there will not be a 10 month wait for an update but it'll probably be just after the new year that I post the next chapter.
