Chapter 1: What's Going On?

Haruno Sakura was mindlessly tapping her pencil on her desk. It was a typical day in Konoha High. Haruno Sakura was a plain Jane. She has straight A's, is an excellent volleyball player as well asa model student. Other than her bright pastel pink hair that reached mid back and her glowing emerald eyes, Haruno Sakura was plain. Her life wasn't grand, neither was it interesting. That's how everyone knows Haruno Sakura: just ordinary.
Everyone knows Haruno Sakura. She lived with her mother down the street across from the little convenience store where many students frequent after school. Her father was long gone, said to have died before birth. Everyone knew her mother was sick. And everyone knew that her mother had passed away six months ago.
Since then Sakura has been living on her own. From everything she ate to everything she owned, she earned with her own blood and tears. And she was damn proud of it. But that painful hole in her heart was ever present; especially when she came home to the house her and her mother had previously shared. Every time she entered her home, she felt empty. Just like her house.
Her mother has been fighting ovarian cancer ever since Sakura could remember. The disease rendered her to bed rest, unable to work. Sakura has always taken care of her mother. She even got a job to help support them both. From what Sakura earned working at both the café and the restaurant, they had enough to get by. Sakura never once complained about her life. Her mother had always said that if she were born into a much wealthier family, she'd be better off. She wouldn't have to work to support both of them. She could have whatever she wanted. Of course Sakura disagreed with her mother. Even though they were struggling to pay bills and feed themselves, even though her mother was fighting an incurable disease, she was happy. Happy to have a mother who loved her unconditionally, happy to be there for her mother at the worst of times.
Sakura has never thought ill of the rich. They were people. They've worked hard for what they possess. But she did not approve of the way they like to spend their money. They threw money around as if they grew on trees, buying useless things like lake houses and extravagant manors. Growing up the way Sakura has, money never grew on trees. It was hard earned. And it will be spent only on important items.
Sakura's mother knew that they did not have enough money for her treatments. And she was perfectly fine with that. She told Sakura that they didn't need to go through treatment because she would heal by herself. At that time, Sakura didn't know that cancer was incurable. As time drug on, she found out. She told her mother that she would get enough money for her treatment. But the treatment was so expensive. The large amount printed on the paper seemed almost impossible. But she never gave up. She never earned enough to give her mother a proper treatment. She only earned enough for her funeral.
Sakura finished her test and turned it in to the teacher who was carelessly reading his bright orange book. She took a seat back at her own desk and continued staring out of the window. Even before her mother passed away, Sakura had her mind set on medical school. Ever since she could remember, she's always had the ambition to become a doctor. She wants to help those who are ill, so no other family has to bury a loved one. She has decided on Konoha University. KU offers the best medical program in all of Fire County. And that was her goal, her dream. And she's not stopping until she gets there.
Sakura visits her mother's grave everyday after school. At times Ino, Hinata or Tenten would join her. But most of the time, it was just Sakura herself. Sakura had quit her restaurant position weeks after her mother passed away. She decided to just stick with the cafe. She made enough to get by, but she knew she would need another plan if she plans on going to KU. With her grades and activities, she hopes to receive a full ride to KU. However, she's still doubtful. As difficult as it is to gain admissions to KU, a full ride would be nearly impossible.
Volleyball has been in her life ever since she could remember. She's learned teamwork and she's met some great friends because of it. She practiced whenever she could. In the backyard or in the gym, by herself or with her friends, she loved to play. Starting her third, last, year as the new captain, playing one last year with her best friends, she couldn't ask for a better place to be in her life.
"Hey Sakura-chan," Sakura turned around at the sound of the voice. Her three best friends Yamanaka Ino, Hyuuga Hinata, and Tenten were standing around her. Hinata's voice was soft and innocent; she immediately recognized it. She didn't even realize that everyone has finished his or her tests and the day was almost over.
"Hey guys," Sakura greeted back.
"Are you visiting your mother after school today?" Tenten asked taking a seat in front of Sakura.
"Yeah, volleyball practice is cancelled. So I thought about going over to Ino's shop," She turned to Ino and smiled, "And get my mother's favorite roses before going to the cemetery."
Ino grinned at her brightly, "Then let's go together! First, we'll go to my place and get the roses, then we'll go visit Mrs. Haruno."
A collective nod from everyone made the idea final. The four had been best friends ever since they could remember. Sakura's mother had been good friends with Ino's and Tenten's mothers so whenever Sakura's mother visited their families, she'd always tag along. The three of them met Hinata when they entered high school.
Soon the bell rang signaling the end of school. It was three p.m. when Sakura looked at the clock. She got up and met up with Ino and the others in front of the classroom door before leaving to change her shoes.
"The café doesn't need you to work today?" Tenten asked slipping her shoes into her locker.
"Yeah, they got enough people. I got a call at lunch today, so hey free day for me," Sakura replied slipping on her flats.
"Will you have enough money?" Ino asked. They all knew about Sakura's financial problems with the house. They knew Sakura had spent a rather large amount of money on her mother's funeral.
"I think so. I saved up some money. And there's the money left over from when I was saving up for my mom's treatment," The three began making their way outside.
"Alright, if you ever need anything don't hesitate to tell us," Hinata said. Hinata being the heiress of the Hyuuga Corps, she never had to worry about money. But Sakura, being the person she is, didn't like asking her friends for any help.
"I'm fine, guys," Sakura said as the four friends slipped into the fresh, crisp air.
Sakura smiled as her friends carried on a conversation. Ino was loud. Hinata was quiet. Tenten was rambunctious. They were a handful at times, but Sakura doesn't know where she'd be without them; the only three people who truly understood her.
"Hey guys, what's going on over there?" Ino asked snapping Sakura out of her thoughts. They all turned their attention to the large group of students standing around the entrance of the school.
"Who knows. Who cares," Tenten replied.
"True. Let's go. I'm starving."
"When aren't you starving, pig?" teased Sakura earning her a slap on the shoulders from the blonde.
"Rude, forehead, rude," All four laughed before heading towards the school exit.
"Excuse me!" Thinking it was student trying to get by the crowd, the girls ignored it. But another call made the girls turn around to see a man dressed in a black suit and black shades hurrying towards them.
"Something we can help you with sir?" Tenten asked politely. The man stopped and looked at Sakura.
"Are you Ms. Haruno Sakura?" The girls turned to Sakura, who looks just as confused as they are.
"Yes, I am Haruno Sakura. Is there something I can help you with?" The man grinned.
"We've been waiting for you Sakura-sama."
"Who are you? Why have you been waiting for me?" Sakura asked. Looking around Hinata spotted the logo on the car the man arrived in.
"Wait a minute." Hinata started. She looked at the sign on the side of the vehicle. It was a red and white fan symbol, "That's the Uchiha family symbol. You're from the Uchiha family?"
The man in black immediately bowed to Hinata, "Hello Hyuuga-sama. I didn't realize you were present." Hinata waved off the apology lightly.
"What do you need from Sakura?" The man rose.
"I guess I should start by introducing myself," The man bowed to the girls, "My name is Kai, and I am the personal assistant for Uchiha Sasuke-sama."
"Uchiha Sasuke?" What does the CEO of the biggest corporation in the country of Japan want with a high school student like Sakura?
"Yes, and he has asked for your presences Sakura-sama." Confused is an understatement; she was way beyond confused at this moment. She was scared. Scared of what this man might want from her.
"Please stop with the formalities," Sakura said, "Why does he need me? I don't even know him."
"I'm sorry Sakura-sama," Sakura raised an eyebrow at the man, "Oh, my apologies, how would you like me to address you?"
"Call me whatever you'd like. I'm not a fan of using formalities," The man bowed.
"Please, allow me to call you Sakura-san, after all you will become our mistress," Confused faces became surprised faces. However confusion is ever present in their eyes, "Oh, my apologies for my big mouth, I've said too much. Please, come with us and Sasuke-sama will explain the rest to you." Sakura took a step back.
"I-I don't know." Hinata put a comforting hand on her shoulders.
"It's okay, I know them. You'll be fine, just go. Sasuke must need something from you if he sent his precious assistant," Sakura looked at Ino and Tenten who simply nodded at her, "Alright, I'll go."
She took a step towards the shiny black car along with Kai. He opened the passenger door and signaled for her to take a seat, "We will be there shortly Sakura-san."
As the car began moving, Sakura took in the scenery of Konoha. She's seen most of it, but the houses and roads that they're currently traveling around was a complete blur to her. She had no idea that this kind of scenery was around here. The houses were massive. Nothing Sakura herself could afford no matter how long she worked at the café.
But where are we going? We sure aren't heading towards Uchiha Corporations. That's located in the middle of the city. We're heading away from the heart of the city. Are we heading towards his house? Why would he be taking me there? What does he want? There are so many questions she needs answered.
As if he was reading her mind, Kai spoke, "We're heading towards the Uchiha manor, Sakura-san," She nodded in acknowledgement. She wasn't sure why she agreed to enter a complete stranger's car. She wasn't sure why she agreed to come meet his boss.
Sakura had no idea why this guy wanted to see her. She was just a regular seventeen year old in her third year of high school. Could it be debt? Did her mother do something without her knowing? No, that's not possible, her mother wouldn't do that. She barely had the energy to move.
Releasing the breath she didn't realize she was holding in, she sighed. What's going on?
