Epilogue - A moment in the rain

The day was full of grey clouds, sending their rain calmly to the ground with a slight chill in the air. But for once it did not bother the petite blonde standing under it. Serena breathed in the crisp atmosphere and savoured it as she clutched her pink and white umbrella. It had been nearly two weeks since Darien had awoken and he had long since recovered. However, he had a lot of work to catch up on while smoothing things over at his University, and she hadn't seen him at all during that time. But today he was finally free, so here she was waiting outside a sweet little cafe that had recently opened, for her boyfriend to arrive. For the first time ever it was him that was running late, but she of all people couldn't hold it against him with her track record, so she continued to wait.

To pass the time she opened her locket and let it's nostalgic melody drift into the air and mingle with the pitter patter of the rain. Serena closed her eyes and found herself lost in all the memories of their time together, in both forms, and couldn't help wonder what the future held. A shadow fell over her and the daydream was broken by a tap on her shoulder. The petite had barely opened her eyes when a pair of warm familiar lips descended upon hers. Her eyes flickered closer as she embraced the ebony haired man and revelled the long over due kiss.

"I've missed you."

"Ditto."

The couple entered the cafe and sat side by side in a comfy little booth. While waiting on, and eating their orders, the two spent their time catching up on any news, whenever they weren't locking lips of course. It then went on to conversation of numerous random topics. They had just finished discussing music when...

"Oh, I almost forgot, there's something really amazing I want to show you," piped up Serena.

"Oh yeah? What is it?"

Serena reached into her handbag and gently withdrew the object.

"Hey, that's the music box I gave you."

"Mmm hmm, I still can't believe you got the very one I was spellbound by. I think the lady called it a Galina love box."

"Yeah that's right, did she tell you what she told me about opening it?"

"About playing the right song? Yep."

"And?"

"You won't believe what song it is."

"What?"

"Two nights ago I felt like I was going to explode from not sending you. So I played the locket you let me keep to cheer me up, and get to sleep," she took out the locket.

"Man, it been so long since I've seen that, let alone hear it's song."

"Listen...and watch..."

She opened the locket and it's beautiful tune began to play. Not a minute later did the box begin to open at a snails pace and it too began to play. The two songs mingles a harmonised together perfectly, as if they were one all along. But the final surprise was went unnoticed for a while as the couple was enchanted by the melody and had their eyes closed while listening and letting their thoughts drift.

Serena thought back to when Darien had climbed the tree to bring her down, their battles, their first and second kiss, and all the times that followed after. She couldn't help but wonder how she didn't notice the warm, charming and irresistibly sweet man before sooner.

Whether I'm this so called Moon princess or not, I've definitely found my prince.

Darien smiled at the memories of their past, from the bickering, to the kisses and all the times in between. He then remembered when he woke up from his injuries to a blonde haired, blue eyed angel and felt that heaven on earth must have truly existed.

He then recalled how after the girls left his apartment the two shared a kiss, then a few more very passionate ones. After they settled down they talked about many things before kissing again and finally decided Serena had to go home, much to their dismay. Before she left however she attempted to return the locket, saying it belonged to him as far as their knew at the moment. He then said to keep it, as a memory had come to him of the time they modelled for a painting by Peggy Jones. Serena had shown him a painting of a couple holding a similar locket. Serena said that it must have played beautiful music to which he replied "yeah, but only for them." He told Serena that it was their locket now, for he knew it's music would only play for them. She smiled at that before kissing him a final time and departing from his apartment.

She is the moon princess, she has to be. And even if not, I'll protect her with my life.

A gentle sigh brought Darien out from his double flashback to the present but he didn't open his eyes until...

"Darien, look!"

When he did look, what he saw both surprised and mesmerised him beyond words. The now fully opened music box revealed and spinning platform of white gold with the inside of the lid depicting a night sky. And on the platform were two figurines dancing together. The couple had to suppress a gasp, for while the carved figures wore ancient timed clothing, they had an uncanny resemblance to the two watching.

"How...is that...any of this...possible..." Whispered Serena as she pointed to the two music players. She had fallen asleep before the box had fully opened last time, so this was a shock to her.

"I don't know," smiled Darien "but that makes them even more special."

Serena relaxed at his words. She didn't get any negative vibes from them, or even an uneasy feeling, just a strange nostalgic calmness, so let her guard drop for this.

The couple continued to admire the enchanting melody as they finished eating and conversed further. When they left the cafe it was still raining quite heavily. Luckily the two were easily able to fit under the large black and red umbrella owned by Darien. Serena sighed aloud in dismay which easily caught the attention of her companion.

"What's wrong?"

"Oh, it's nothing, I just...I don't want today to end yet."

"Do you have to go home right now?"

"I...I think I have a bit of time left before anyone would worry."

"In that case," the blackette pulled the blonde off the original path and onto a diverting one which lead to a public garden.

"Darien? Where are we going?" Giggled the teen girl.

"Over there," he pointed towards a tiny gazebo.

"Oh how cute!"

Once underneath it Serena gazed in awe at the gardens full of coloured flowers, despite it not being Spring. She felt a pair of hands reach into her bag.

"Huh? What are you doing."

The towering man didn't answer as he pulled out the locket and music box once more, opened them, and placed them on a seat. He then turned to the confused Serena and gave a tiny bow before holding out a hand.

"May I have this dance?"

"I'd love to," she giggled before adding "but I'm not very good."

"Impossible," before Serena could blink Darien had swept her up into his arms, "you were more than just good that time at Princess Diamonds ball."

Serena blushed at the memory before even realising that her foot steps had already aligned with his.

"See."

"Huh, what do ya know."

They continued to dance, starting with what could only be described as a basic waltz, before Darien became daring and decided to do a few twirls a even a dip or two. Serena was surprised in how she had not only kept up with him, but that her clumsy feet hadn't once trodden on his. She smiled and continued to enjoy the warmth of his arms, the feeling of security, and peacefulness that was this moment.

She spun a final time, this time she even took a few steps away to make the motions larger, but she made herself too dizzy and rather then spin back to her partner she went backwards further and fell down the steps to the outside of the gazebo. Her face was half way to the soaked concrete when once more she found something warm and firm wrap around her, preventing her full descent.

"Got you," came a seductive whisper that sent chills up her spine.

"Thanks," was all the reply she could muster as the midnight eyed man set her back on her feet.

"Forever a clumsy meatball head," chuckled Darien.

Serena was about to retort in mock anger when he quickly spun her her around and cupped her cheek.

"Forever my shinning light..."

The rain continued to cascade upon the couple, slowly dampening them, the music drifted on and on in the air, but the young lovers took little notice as they gazed into each other's eyes. Darien dipped down until his lips met Serena's in a slow but passionate kiss. His tongue caressed and danced with hers, sending shivers of joy and excitement up their spines. Serena wrapped her arms around Darien's neck as he pulled her in closer by the waist. Serena inhaled his scent of aftershave and roses that mingled the crisp moist air and felt her senses wander in an intoxicating haze. She moaned quietly as his hands tranced her skin and one found it's way up to play and bury into her hair. She couldn't help but smile against his perfect mouth that tasted of dark chocolate and mint. Jolts of electricity that felt like fireworks burst within, making her feel like the luckiest girl in all existence.

In that moment, very thing was perfect. The two lovers didn't know what would happen tomorrow or just how great the challenges of fighting evil would become. There was much Serena and Darien knew they didn't know, but it mattered little to them. For what they did know, was that no matter what hardships they faced in their future, they would always protect each other. For their love...was eternally strong.

Also I've decided to take a break from fanfiction and other writings to let my batteries recharge and my story ideas develop, but fear not, I will return! And trust me my dear moonies, I have something big on the way! I won't reveal too much but let's just say there will be fights, love, new powers, new characters and the biggest battle to come the scouts way!
