Chapter 7: System, Germany

"Minami, how's school?" Minami's father asked. It was a standard question from a father to his child.

"It's fine. I'm enjoying my lessons there. It seems like I can still understand German pretty well." Minami replied with a smile.

It was a day before school and the Shimada family was having breakfast. Minami and Hazuki was preparing for school while their father was preparing for work. Their mother was preparing their bento to school. It was a custom to have breakfast together.

"That's good." Their father chewed on his bread. "What about you, Hazuki?"

"Great! I made lots of friends!" Hazuki enthusiastically replied. "They were very interested in my life in Japan!" Hazuki put down her bread that she was eating. "I was so lucky that I get to experience many things…" Hakuki used the total length of her arms to make a huge circle to 'signify' how much had she experienced, "many things in Japan!"

"Hazuki, you have to finish your breakfast soon, if not you'll not catch the bus!" Her mother reminded her. "Here's your bento."

Hazuki received the bento and kept it into her bag. "I'm off!" Hazuki went out of the house as her family bade her goodbye.

"I'm going too." Minami's stood up and left.

"Minami, are you going soon?" Minami's mother asked. She gave the bento to Minami.

"Yeah, I'm going." Minami took her bento, did her usual ribbon left the house. "I'm choosing club activities today so I'll be pretty late!"

"Okay! Take care!" Her mother waved good bye and Minami went to school.

"Good morning, Minami!" Lucy greeted. "Want me to accompany you to school?"

Minami was on her way to school and Lucy came up to greet her. Lucy… According to Minami's memory bank, Lucy, was a girl that does fantasies a lot. Maybe as much as Muttsulini but Minami didn't have a chance to confirm it. She happens to be part of the tennis club too. "Oh… um… hi, Lucy."

To Lucy, Minami was a very interesting girl that she had just met and transferred into her class. She does enjoy teasing people, especially people like Minami. She just had to get a little closer to Minami and let her open her heart to her. She didn't want Minami to have such an amour always guarding her heart. She had to open her in order for her to accept others to get more friends or maybe even… even a boyfriend. Of course, Miss Yoshii isn't a lover for she is a girl!

"Hey, Minami, you really have nothing to do with Miss Yoshii, is it true?" Lucy questioned.

"Heh? W… what are you asking? Why t…this sort of question in the morning?" Minami's face turned red.

"Heheh, your face is red, Minami." Lucy snickered. "I didn't believe that you are into such immoral relationships but right now…" Lucy stopped for a while, "… it seems very suspicious!"

"No… no!" Minami replied, totally embarrassed. "Why do you think am I interested in that?"

"Heh…" Lucy continued, totally ignoring Minami's words, "So you like older girls and won't get a boyfriend and even if you get one, it'll be a weird one right?"

"Listen to me!" Minami said exasperated. "I do have a boyfriend and he is perfectly normal!" Minami blurted out, defending herself.

"Ah… so… you do have a boyfriend eh?"

"W… what?" Minami was shocked by what she had revealed. Oh no! What did I say?

"Eh… so this does work." Lucy slowly touched her chin.

"What works?" Minami was curious. She was also glad that Lucy switched to another topic and not probe her about her love life.

"I've learnt that the sentence I'd used to tease you actually allows the person to reduce their guard to defend themselves and cause them to reveal their secret. Which in this case…" Lucy looked at Minami, "Your boyfriend… Is he cute?"

"Arrghh! Please don't use me as a test subject!" Minami escaped from the girl. I'm so embarrassed! What did I do to deserve this? School have been nothing but embarrassing!

"All right everyone, take out your textbook and flip to page 72." Minami's mathematics teacher said. The class immediately responded by doing what exactly they were told. "Today we will be going through several problem sums and try to solve some complex questions." the teacher continued and started writing on the whiteboard.

"Problem sums, eh…" Minami tapped her pencil on her notebook. Like almost every student, she did take notes too. She quickly jotted down some of the questions her teacher had written out. It's the Pythagoras' Theorem, eh? She then did the questions given. She was especially good at mathematics; she was fast and able to understand theories and theorems within a few minutes. As of then, the main language was German and because of that, Minami totally had no problems in doing them.

"Minami, please come forward and show us how do you do this question." The teacher called Minami out. Oh yeah… the teacher wants to test my mathematics standard. I guess they are worried that I may not be able to adapt well here.

Minami got up and walked to the whiteboard. She took a marker and started answering the questions. She wasn't nervous at all as she knew that she was correct in the steps she did.

"Well done, that's exactly the way you should answer. Minami, you can return to your seat now." The teacher complemented Minami. "As for the next question…"

Minami went back to her seat as her classmate went up to do the next question. The question was easy… It's also much clearer when it's in German. Unlike those times in Japan when I couldn't even understand a single sentence. Tap… tap tap. Minami tapped her pencil as she checked her answer against her classmates. Hmm… this class happens to be pretty smart… This is Class C after all. I wonder if they are so smart, why is this not Class A…

Her question was promptly answered when Mathematics class ended.

"Minami, do you know what in the year of the Taika Reform in Japan?" The teacher asked.

"Yes! It's the year 645!"Minami promptly answered.

That was the subject that brought everyone to Class C. As Fumizuki Academy was a Japanese school, the students were required to learn Japanese History and a bit of Elementary Japanese Conversation. The subject itself had caused her class to shiver. It was then Japanese History and Minami, for the first time in her life, felt so confident in Japanese History. I really had to thank Sakamoto-kun for teaching me basic elementary level Japanese History before the start of the Fumizuki Academy's Festival. This subject should be a breeze for me. Minami was smiling. All she only had to do was some quick revision before every lesson and she could easily ace the tests. Right then, her classmate looked at her in awe as she was the only student that could answer every question the teacher gave.

"That's correct, Minami." The teacher commented upon hearing Minami's answer. "From what I know, you've been in Fumizuki Academy, which is a high school. I'm rather surprised that you know the answers these questions as they're in the elementary school syllabus in Japan." The teacher then continued. "You must like Japan a lot."

"Yes. I'm actually Japanese. It'll be a disgrace for me to not know such simple history of my homeland." Minami smiled, hiding that fact that someone actually taught her that subject. I can't say that, can I? Not when I have this chance to raise everyone's opinion of me!

"That's good to know that you are interested in learning." The teacher praised. "All right... right on to the next section…" The teacher turned his attention to the whiteboard again.

Hmm… I'm exempted from Elementary Japanese Conversation class. Guess I'll do a little revision then. She tapped her pencil on her open notebook and started jotting down notes.

The lesson went by and it's time for the much dreaded class for Minami. Even though she was exempted, she was expected to stay in class. She moved to the back of her classroom as she took out her German History textbook.

"Errmm, Minami, can you come over for a while?" Akira beckoned Minami to go over to the front of the class. The class that was getting into their seats froze and stared at Minami.

"Enough!" Minami shouted. "There is nothing going on between us! Miss Yoshii, why are you in our Elementary Japanese class?"

"Is there a problem? I'm the teacher for this subject after all." Akira replied. "Don't tell me you didn't know even after a few days?"

"Geh… I wasn't paying attention." Minami stood up and went towards Akira.

"You are selected to be the student in charge of welcoming a group of students that are coming to our school for an exchange program."

"Huh? Why?" Minami was surprised. "Of everyone in this class why me?"

"Well, because you are good in Japanese."

"And so? That doesn't mean… wait…" Minami paused. Akira nodded. "The students that are coming… they are from…"

Akira nodded and said, "The main Fumizuki Academy, from Japan!"

"Thank you for putting me in charge!" Minami bowed, subconsciously switching into Japanese.

"Hm?" The class didn't understand the sentence Minami said.

Their Japanese is that bad? Minami couldn't believe it.

"Class, today's Elementary Japanese Conversation class is being converted to a time for us to be planning for the upcoming school festival that's 2 weeks later."

"Yes!" The class agreed. They were looking forward to the festival as it was rare to have exchange students.

"Do your best, Minami." Akira turned to Minami. "This may be your only chance."

"I'll show you what I'm made of." Minami glared. "I demand you to leave him alone", these words rang in her head as she walked to the desk in front of the class.

"I'll be taking charge now!" Minami shouted, trying to hype-up the current atmosphere even more. "Let's blow their minds when they arrive!" That's a war cry.

"Yeah!" Her troops responded.

"Let's start planning!" A strategy meeting started and the ranks of different troops were formed.

Minami's 3rd diary entry

Dear diary, I found out some pleasant things about my classmates today. They are a bunch of wonderful people. I'd never seen such enthusiasm in class F, leaving aside the FFF. I'd done out a plan that would blow Akira off! I want to show Aki that I am capable of taking care of myself even during his absence. Come to think of it, I'm rather worried about him. Especially his diet. Is he still eating 1/64 of a single cup of instant ramen for lunch? How are his academic results? I was told that Fumizuki Academy in Japan had their own plans to select different students to Germany. I really do wonder what it is. I hope Akihisa gets selected!

Minami stopped writing and decided that's all she could write. She had spent 1 whole day with her classmates. Her parents were also happy to see her doing well in school. Feeling a little tired, she lied belly down on her bed. Bzzz… Her phone vibrated beside her. She unlocked it and saw a message from Yoshii Akihisa. A smile emerged as she read the message. You are so sweet… Minami kissed her phone. It contained a picture of Akihisa. A picture of him smiling and holding a sign saying, "Do your best! I love you!"

Bzzz… The phone vibrated again… Minami looked at the caller's name. "Huh? No… this… this name is so familiar…" Her palms sweated as she decided to take that call.

"Hello?" Minami nervously spoke into the phone.

"Hello." The caller coolly replied.

All right! I've gotten this chapter out! Who is the caller? Minami knows the caller? Why is she nervous? You will know in the next following chapters! Please do drop in a review! Till next chapter, see you! Let's wait for it!
