Shattered Memories

"Annabeth – the only person he could remember from his past. His memory of her was frustratingly dim."

~ Son of Neptune

Percy woke up in a dark, empty room.

His jeans were worn out and ripped up, the writing on his orange t-shirt had faded, he had a beaded necklace with strange symbols on it, and all he had in his pockets was a cheap ball point pen.

A useless pen.

He didn't even have a cell phone! He was trapped inside this room with no way to get out. There were no windows, and the only door was locked. When he yelled for help, all he got was an eerie silence. This whole situation gave him the creeps.

He was so frustrated that he threw the damn pen against the wall, and that's when the weirdest thing happened. Apparently the whole situation just wasn't weird enough to begin with.

Within minutes, the pen just disappeared into thin air and ended up right back into his pocket.

He uncapped the pen, and it grew into a large bronze sword with a double edged blade. It had a flat hilt that was riveted with gold studs. The blade was perfectly balanced in his hands, almost as if it was made for him.

On the edge of its guard, the word Anaklusmos was etched in. Ancient Greek maybe? He was somehow able to translate it into Riptide.

Now, he was seriously confused.

What the freaking hell was going on? He half expected a hidden camera crew to come out and tell him that this was all joke.

He was angry, his voice was hoarse from calling for help, he was cold, his muscles ached from sleeping on the cold stone floor, and that wasn't even the worst part. How could this have possibly been any worse?

He couldn't remember anything. He didn't even know his own name. He knew absolutely nothing, except one single name.

Annabeth Chase.

The name left him with a fuzzy feeling inside. Percy knew it wasn't his name, because even though he couldn't remember anything, he was pretty sure that he was a guy.

He could picture the girl in his mind. She was breathtakingly gorgeous.

She was tall and deeply tanned. Her hair had perfectly natural princess curls that were put up into a high pony. She looked just like the typical California girl, except her eyes. Her eyes were gray. Intimidating yet comforting at the same time. She had a smile so bright, that it could compete with the sun.

Maybe this girl had the answers to his questions.

Who was this girl in relationship to him? How did he know her, and why couldn't he remember more?

Percy didn't know the answer to any of these questions, but he did know that he would find this girl, even if it was the last thing he did. He had to get to her.
