A/N- Yay! A new chapter! I haven't updated in eight months… I'm so sorry. I don't really have an excuse except that I lose motivation pretty quickly. I really am going to try and finish this story within the next few months. I've also went back and rewrote/fixed some grammar and spelling errors along with adding a sentence or two in every chapter, so feel free to reread anything. Again, the chapter before this goes along with this one, so if you haven't read it in awhile, or ever, I strongly suggest you do that first. They're both pretty short and somewhat familiar. Oh, if you are a fan of the Teen Titans, I just started a new story with them called Teacher's Pet. It's going to get dark..

"Look, I know you may feel like you don't have to talk about it or that you're okay, but I'm here for you Conner." Black Canary chose her words wisely.

"Most of what I went through in that twisted nightmare, I've already been had happen to me." Superboy looked his mentor in her eyes. "In real life, Superman hates me and wishes I was never cloned. I mean, can you blame him?"

Black Canary bit her lip. "I really do wish Clark would treat you better. The League has been trying to get him to budge but he's stubborn… not unlike someone in this very room."

"So what? We both share that undesirable trait." Superboy shrugged nonchalantly, but she could sense the pain in his voice.

Black Canary leaned forward in her seat and patted the boy's thigh. "One day, hopefully soon, he'll come around."

"Whatever." Superboy rolled his eyes. "Sphere attacked me, I was back at Cadmus stuck in a test tube again, Megan wanted nothing to do with me…"

"Sphere? Why would she attack you?" Black Canary furrowed her eyebrow.

"I'm not sure."

"No, I mean in real life." Black Canary continued. "You saved her from terrible villains and the people of New Genesis gave you the honor of keeping her. She would never betray you, at least intentionally."

Superboy hadn't considered that. His frown lightened up a bit.

"As for Cadmus, you don't need to worry about that. As long as you're here with us or your team, you're safe. Cadmus is full of a few friends of yours as well." Canary sat back in her chair and moved her hair behind her shoulder.

Superboy was going to explain what happened between him and Lex Luthor, but he decided not to share that information… at least not yet. Everybody already knew that he hates monkeys as well.

"I know they'd never do that to me again." Superboy replied. "That fear always lingers in the back of my mind though."

Black Canary nodded. "I get that. But please, that'll never happen again."

Superboy looked at the woman with hopeful eyes.

"So, Megan not liking you is a fear you possess?" Superboy's cheeks turned as bright red as the 'S' on his shirt.

"No. Her not liking me because I'm Superman's clone is a fear." Superboy faced the ground to hide his embarrassment.

Black Canary shot a look of pity at the boy. She was looking forward to another long session.

….

"Canary?" A quiet, female voice came from the doorway.

"Come in, I've been meaning to track you back down." Black Canary smiled slightly.

"I'm sorry that I ran off like that." Artemis rubbed her arm nervously. "Some of what I saw.. went through. I'm not sure if part of that really happened or not."

"Artemis, it was all a cruel joke played by The Joker." The blonde woman tried to soothe her fears.

"Yes but… part of it felt real. Like, really real. Like a memory." Artemis blinked quickly to keep a tear from falling out of her watery eyes.

Black Canary's face instantly filled with worry. This was different from the rest.

"What do you mean?"

"I-I don't want… to remember." Artemis couldn't hold back her tears any longer as they began to stream steadily down her olive cheeks. "I saw my dad and my sister. Icicle Jr. put a Belle Rev collar around my neck and turned it on. Wally said I was the team mole."

Black Canary thought for a second. "Which part felt real?"

"Not the mole part; trust me." Artemis still managed to convey aggravation in the tone of her voice.

"Well I know the part about Icicle Jr. did not happen in real life; Megan and Conner were the ones who went undercover in the prison." Black Canary leaned her body forward. "So that leaves your father and sister. What happened with them?"

Artemis cleared her throat. "I watched my sister sneak out of room we shared through the window and leave me alone with… dad. He tried to pin me down against my bed but I don't remember what happened after that. It was like I was teleported into another, um, scenario I guess."

"And you said this seemed real? Why this and nothing else?"

"I-I think it happened before." Artemis looked down at the ground. "I've been remembering stuff."

"What kinda stuff?" Black Canary was growing worried.

"I think my dad was going to… hurt me." Artemis choked up. "I'm telling you, it was like a memory… not one of The Joker's hallucinations. It was real."

Black Canary grabbed Artemis's hand and held it in her own. "I'm here if you want to tell me what else you remember."

Artemis looked back up with her swollen red eyes.

Robin wiped tears from his eyes. "It was my whole life... not just the recent years."

Black Canary nodded. "Your parents, correct?"

"Yeah, that's what it started with. I saw them fall to their deaths, but it wasn't a fear… it was a memory." Robin met the woman's gaze. "It was a reality. That's what actually happened. I remember it so vividly and actually going through it again..."

Black Canary sniffled. Batman had never told her the details of their demise, but to hear it from Robin's mouth was agonizing.

"How did The Joker know?" Robin asked desperately.

"I don't think he does... the gas is what brings out the fears." Black Canary tried to console the boy. "I doubt he had any control over exactly what you saw."

The woman started to open her mouth again when she realized that his story was similar to Artemis concerning actual memories.

Robin wasn't sure what to say. Although he knew some of what he saw were only fears, he had witnessed his parents demise. If he could talk to anyone about this, it would be Batman.

"Um, I gotta tell you something." Robin adverted his eyes away from Black Canary's.

"Anything."

"I can't talk to you about this. I have to talk to Batman."

"That's sorta the opposite of telling somebody something." Canary bit her lip. "Usually Batman-"

"I know." Robin interrupted. "I know he wants us to keep it within the team but I don't care."

Robin stood up from his seat only to disappear from the room. Black Canary opened her mouth to call out for him, but decided to let him go. He was right. Robin left to find Batman.
