Lost between worlds
Aphrodite was wandering restlessly through her world and the human world. She had been doing so for days, feeling restless and out of place. This wasn't unusual for the goddess of beauty, this happened every year and it would last for some time.
She was wondering how everyone both at Mount Olympus and at earth could seem to find love and happiness while she couldn't. She just felt so lost and alone and she didn't want to be that. She wanted to find someone to be with as well, she longed for some to share her every emotion and experience with.
She was at the moment at earth she realized as she could see Persephone make the world beautiful as spring was nearing. She could see her smile of happiness while all seemed to go as it should. The plants were blooming and the bugs were buzzing.
Aphrodite wondered how she could seem so happy when she every year had to spend eight months away from her husband. They however seemed to work it out and she knew Hades came up to visit his wife every once in a while. He was faithful to her in every way, unlike his brothers.
She walked away from the other Goddess and sank down on a rock in an opening of a little forest area. There she let her guard down and allowed herself to cry tears of sadness and frustration.
She startled when she heard someone say, "Excuse me, beautiful Aphrodite, why are you crying?"
"Just leave me alone," she snapped, not wishing to be disturb or for anyone to see her like this.
"Please, maybe I can help," a male voice say, his voice was softer than the summer rain.
"I don't want your…" she stopped as she looked upon Hephastius. By meeting with her eyes, he looked down as he knew he was ugly. What had he been thinking nearing such beautiful creature as her?
"I'm sorry, I just wanted to help," he whispered, turning to leave her when she said, "Please, wait."
"Yes," he said and looked at her with questioning eyes.
"Why would you care about me?" she wondered. He like most others could just walk away not caring.
"Because, my beautiful Goddess, I love you," he whispered.
She would be tempted to laugh if that had been a joke, but knowing it to be the truth, she smiled at him instead. He loved her, him the one that everyone called ugly love her. Aphrodite looked at him and for once she could only see his emotions not the way he looked, making him seem less hideous. In fact there was something about her that moved her heart.
She smiled at him saying, "If you wish me to be, I am yours."
Aphrodite knew this to be a rash decision as she did not love him fully yet, but if he made her heart beat it had to mean something. She could learn to love him she was sure. He had seen her when she needed to be seen, cared when she wanted no one.
Suddenly as he nodded she knew she was choosing right and would be less lonely as she would be his wife. She walked closer and let him hold her, leaning his head against his shoulder, feeling safe, protected and no longer lost.
So this was what it felt like being loved she figured, knowing she wouldn't change him for anyone. Because maybe, just maybe deep inside she would find that she loved him as well.
