Tiki torches and idols, Dee decided as he gazed around the hotel's interior, were not his thing. Why some people liked things Tiki now baffled the detective, and he shook his head as he stopped gazing around the resort's lobby before heading towards the elevator.

The interior of the resort's lobby looked rather tacky and cheap. Fake Hawaiian flowers sat in the center of tables, next to bright orange chairs and yellow sofas, and were draped across lamps. Considering how much he and Ryo were paying for this "luxurious" stay, it didn't surprise Dee in the least that the décor left something to be desired in the resort's patrons.

All things considered, he and Ryo hadn't decided too poorly when they chose this particular hotel-slash-resort for a small getaway with Shuichi. It remained within their budget, it allowed them to also bring Carol and Bikky along for the adventure, and, despite the cheapness (in his not-so-humble opinion) of the décor, it provided everything they needed for a relaxing, if not entirely tropical, vacation. The friendliness of the staff was another added bonus.

Still, it wasn't everything Dee wanted for a tropical getaway. He would have liked to actually taken his unusual but no less loving family to some place nice, like Hawaii, but, given his current set of circumstances (he and Ryo were being considered for termination due to cut-backs), a real trip to Hawaii was out of the question. Granted, Shuichi could afford the trip himself, but Dee didn't want to keep relying on Shuichi's income to pay for everything. It was going to be bad enough should either he or Ryo or even the both of them be laid off from work. The impending layoff weighed heavily on Dee's mind, and he wanted to shout at the top of his lungs at the un-fairness of it all.

'Enough!' he told himself when he realized where his thoughts were heading. 'If it happens, it happens. There isn't a damned thing Ryo and I can do about it. Besides, Shuichi doesn't seem to mind being here. If anything, he seems to like it. A lot.'

He stepped off the elevator the moment it stopped at the floor where he and his family were staying. From where he stood, he could hear Carol, Bikky, and Shuichi laughing and whooping. They were probably engaged in a pillow fight or duking it out on the PlayStation 3. Whatever it happened to be, it brought a smile to Dee's face, and, for a moment, he could forget about his impending troubles.

'Someday, guys,' he swore as he walked to the room. 'Someday, I promise, we'll stay in a real Tiki resort. I just don't know when.'
