Maybe Not a Father

Disclaimer I own nothing

A/N: a gift for Sairey13 because she's awesome!

Somehow Richard John Grayson thought his parents dying would be the most complicated thing about well…them dying. But that is far from the truth. Because death is simple ; once you're dead that's it. No ifs ands or buts about it. Dead is dead.

No the complicated thing is life after their death or more specially life with Bruce Wayne. Bruce Wayne who took him in. despite the fact the man is majority of the time ascent from Dick's life the things surrounding him remain.

Mostly it's the women who come so often that Dick has lost track of them. The things that come out of their mouth are mostly brainless, flirting, babble but there are other things…

Look at the little circus brat

What a pain in the ass

Why did Brucie even take him in

It hurts Richard, painfully but then it gets confusing because the things they say to Bruce are NOTHING like that.

Oh Brucie he looks like you

He's so cute

It must be nice to have a son

Son? He isn't Bruce's son! He's his ward, whatever that means. Bruce certainly doesn't treat him like a son and Dick doesn't want to be Bruce's son! Bruce is awkward around him, fumbles like a football player in mittens. Bruce Wayne is NOT his father.

?

It's a Saturday evening. Dick is unhappy because he is stuck at one of Bruce's stupid parties. The food is weird, the people are loud and way to smiley. Not the kind of smiley like people at the cirus ut was a fake smile that comes with laughing that is way to loud like the Joker on TV.

Dick is leaning against the wall, his hands in his suit pocket. There's nothing to do here at all. He wishes he could just go upstairs and go to bed.

"Richard," Bruce's voice makes him jump. Dick looks up at the man.

"you don't look like you're having any fun. Why don't you go watch TV or play a game, you don't have to stay at my party if you don't want too," Dick stares at the man his blue eyes wide. Bruce had just showed him kindness, some bit of understanding. The words won't come so he just hurries away.

Bruce Wayne is not his father, no, he can't be. Dick thinks as he does out of the ballroom. But he's not horrible, not by a long shot. Dick thinks he should give him more of a chance. After all he saved him from the orphanage.

Bruce Wayne isn't his father, but maybe he can be his friend…

A/N: this is how I imagine it would have been at first with these two. I do see them as father/son but I feel it would take a while to develop that so this seemed like the first step.
